Henry Cox78 said:The real issue is that someone at the Coast Guard totally screwed them over. Seriously, go ahead, try telling me otherwise. 🤣 At the end of the day, someone messed up. Either it was that guy at the Coast Guard station or whoever handed out the fine, but I highly doubt they slapped them with a penalty for nothing.

🤣🤣

but they still have no clue who from the harbor master's office stepped forward or who gave them the word. maybe they dialed the wrong number. anyway, it’s a decent enough story to laugh about over coffee...

hmm. There’s something to both numbers, the 12 and the 20. I remember back when there were sanctions and you couldn't go past 20 miles from Mexico. Now, whether we're talking nautical or standard distance, that's how the Federers calculated it. 🤷 But I don't buy that they were being harassed for no reason. Maritime law is pretty straightforward. International borders are (relatively) clear, and everyone has to follow the rules. Doesn't matter if it's Roger Federer's father or some random guy's grandpa.

If some routine inspection just took longer than the Federers expected, it's not their place to complain or start commenting on how the police do their jobs. The cops don't owe them an explanation for why they're doing what they're doing. That's my take on it.

The only real issue is how fast they were let go, considering they pushed about 8 miles into American waters. Anyone who spends time on the water knows that... even without checking with the Coast Guard. And I bet the Coast Guard didn't tell them it was 12 miles instead of 20.
