Melissa Peterson19 said:Oh sure, because they could have built those highways for pennies on the dollar, right? How much would it have cost using the unnamed/Republican method? As for the internal debt left by the Reaganite right, it's being settled through the very sell-offs they initiated; when that wasn't enough, they turned to foreign loans. And once again, Clinton gets the blame. It's the same old story. The Republican Party leaves behind an internal debt of $35 billion that is absolutely destroying us, leaving no choice but to borrow from abroad. God willing, that goes through the IMF at a 2% interest rate. On top of that, there's still a budget deficit of about $17 billion. Totaling $60 billion—how much will the external debt spike under a new, forced Democratic-style administration? It'll be the unnamed one's fault, obviously!

Something like the nineties, when the right took control of things in this country?

Then why doesn't that unnamed leader just say he won't even bother running for power in the next election, since he won't be able to do anything anyway with all the accumulated debt and national problems?

Some of you get an ulcer the second the nineties are mentioned... that’s the difference between us and you.... we take pride in the nineties because that's when our nation was founded, while you people just feel sick because you lost yours.
Gerald Wright10 said:And you're dead wrong. Those right-wing platitudes haven't worked for twenty years while they just do whatever they want anyway. Here’s why that is.

Because in America, the Democratic Socialists of America are dead. The few intellectuals or pseudo-intellectuals left are basically just picking through their own gut contents, totally unable to see that even though they eat different meals every day, they're all essentially eating the same crap.

Look at the world around you:

a) The social system is protected by organs of repression (meaning, by force).
b) Nations—and I don't just mean the leaders of global capitalism—achieve their goals through force (using military might if economic pressure isn't enough).
c) Capitalist states, which supposedly enjoy high democratic legitimacy, use force to block undesirable options, even those won through parliamentary processes.
d) Police and security organizations (I assume workers aren't the ones hiring them?) protect private property using force.
e) Terrorism (whose definition shifts arbitrarily based on the conflicting interests of global capital and major powers) achieves its aims through violence.

All of world history shows that changing a social paradigm happens (unfortunately) exclusively through force.

You have every right to your opinion, but don't tell me I'm wrong.
Frankly, I can barely follow your logic. I catch glimpses of what you're getting at—that the American right is incompetent, and the left is too weak to challenge them. So, what's your solution? An ultra-leftist regime? Like the ones we saw in old communist states where "leftism" was just a label for shadow governments running everything behind closed doors? You seem to advocate for solving problems through brute force and secret prisons.
Just don't be surprised when that same darkness eventually swallows you whole.
Gerald Wright10 said:The Republican Party has basically been calling the shots for twenty years now. We're part of a massive military alliance—NATO—social safety nets are being shredded, and everything worth owning is being sold off to foreign interests for pennies on the dollar... if that isn't proof that the right is ruling with an iron fist, I don't know what is. Then again, the government is usually just following whatever the majority demands.

The real question isn't whether we are led by the right, the left, or the center. The real dilemma is when will we finally be led by people who are actually competent and dedicated to making this country better?
