Quick question about Breakdancing... in Hobbies & Leisure ·
A Planche is basically a static hold where you maintain that specific position—it's pure isometry. If you add a dynamic element to it, like a push-up, then we're talking about a planche push-up.

Junior is pretty much famous for his planche. But you know, it’s not just a thing for gymnasts; Bboys, acrobats, and capoeira practitioners all get into it too.

Actually, no. That kid is definitely a Bboy. Just because he can pull off a planche doesn't mean he belongs on a gymnastics floor.
Have you ever heard of junior?

Don't overthink it—just go out there and make it happen.

Don't worry about it, I've already taken care of that.
You really ought to film this Bboy kid:

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I really suggest you look into some gymnastics or more advanced bodyweight training if you're serious about getting into Breakdancing. You'll learn how to actually control your own weight at some pretty weird angles, and it'll help you develop much better balance and coordination, which is absolutely essential for Breakdance.

I suppose I should probably get started on reading through this Supplements and Dietary Additives thread.

Frank White75 said:Hey there 🙂
if I could jump in and answer someone here:
I've been hitting the gym for a little while now (since maybe last September or October) and I'm looking to pick up some protein powder. Does anyone have any solid recommendations? Just to be clear, I don't play any specific sports; I just want to put on some muscle mass.
Oh, and I'm 16...
I would honestly read through this whole thread, but man, 120 pages is just way too much for me to dig through right now.🙂
Thanks.

It’s never too late to start. You should definitely check out www.gymnasticbodies.com. There is actually a massive amount of overlap between gymnastics and breakdancing, especially when you look at pressing strength. I think you'll find their wrist prehab and rehab drills particularly useful; a lot of Bboys deal with chronic wrist issues simply because they haven't been introduced to these kinds of corrective exercises. There are even a few Bboys featured on the site, so I'm sure you'll find some practical, actionable info there.

It also includes some old-school strength training staples, like pull-ups, dips, deadlifts, and squats.

Ethan Garcia8 said:Are you kidding me? 😁 Are you seriously trying to suggest that I—someone who can pull off 15 pull-ups, a number I've been stuck at for years, seeing it drop every single time I take a break—could suddenly switch to training on a gyro board, bump my reps up to 18, stop doing pull-ups entirely for three months, and then see that jump as the result of supercompensation? Even though my numbers always tanked during previous breaks? 😁 That just doesn't fly, obviously. You lose your shape in three months, let alone your pull-up count. 😁

My apologies. Supercompensation would only happen under the specific conditions that Charles Chavez5 described. After three months of inactivity, we are definitely not talking about supercompensation here.

Charles Chavez5 makes a valid point. You should probably go ahead and Google supercompensation to get the full picture.

Since we're all debating whether this thread actually serves its purpose, I figured I'd just post a few shots of myself. I’ve dropped three photos here before—sorry for the repetition—but they were kind of random. This time, I’m posting them all at once so you can actually see the progress, and hopefully, it might motivate someone else out there.

Here is where I was back in March 2009, right after sitting out for about a year and a half due to a nasty injury in my left shoulder:

Around that time, I started getting back into training, specifically following the Naked Warrior book by Pavel Tsatsouline. I was basically just waiting until I could move into a new apartment on the other side of town where I’d finally have the space to focus on gymnastics.

I ended up moving in early November, and that's when I really dove into the gymnastics work. Here I am in July 2010 (so, about seven months into the routine) during a training session:

The photos are pretty blurry and a bit hard to make out, so if anyone is curious about what I'm actually doing or how the holds look, the figures in order are: L-sit, tuck planche, tuck front lever and flat tuck back lever. Feel free to Google them and compare. Over the summer, I was a bit sloppy with my cycle programming and loading, and I wasn't eating nearly enough since I didn't have any steady income coming in 😢 so, by August, I looked like this:

In November:

And by late November:

I haven't taken any recent photos, but I think I will soon, so I'll post them when I do. I assume most people on the forum will be most interested in the advanced variations of push-ups and pull-ups, but I'll probably post a little bit of everything.

Honestly, you can pretty much go with any smaller bluefish. Tuna is the big concern (along with other major predators), though even that depends heavily on where exactly it was caught. Most of the fish we see being caught around here, I'd say, are perfectly safe. Things like mackerel, mahi-mahi, bluefish, barracuda, anchovies, herring, or even scad should be fine.👍

I’d probably suggest trying to incorporate more fish into your diet, specifically oily fish. It seems to have great anti-inflammatory properties, and it's packed with selenium, though you'll get different mineral profiles depending on the specific type you choose.

You should really look into starting some gymnastics training. You don't even need any fancy equipment, at least not when you're just getting started. Besides, I think it's actually better if you just improvise a little bit.
