Amy Nelson4 said:It would be nice if we could just decide whether we're discussing the service itself or the people attending, but hey, fine.

So, you're asking why the service wasn't interrupted. Well, it wasn't because, according to church law, you can't just stop it—and besides, the police aren't supposed to intervene inside religious properties (just look at what happened during those veteran protests over at Times Square).
Since a priest is conducting the service, he's naturally part of the conversation. Plus, technically, the service wasn't held outdoors.
Services have been happening every single day throughout this entire pandemic, so there's really no reason for them to be stopped.

And honestly, the people who showed up weren't even on parish property—they were on someone else's private land. A reporter from Yahoo mentioned they actually checked IDs for a few people.

I am talking about this morning's outdoor Mass held right in front of the church. Regardless of how much anyone tries to play lawyer and claim otherwise, it qualifies as an outdoor gathering. Try applying that same logic elsewhere and see if the police don't show up to disperse you—and if you refuse, they'll arrest you. Take what I witnessed recently near Milwaukee: people were standing several feet apart, nowhere near as close as they were this morning over at Sirobuja, yet the police still came to move them along. One person refused to step away and was forcibly taken into custody.
Masses are being held every day during the pandemic without a crowd present. You see them on TV almost daily. Fortunately, most priests are conscientious and follow the guidelines. The exception is this old rural type from Sirobuja, whose actions undermine and spit on the sacrifices made by all the other church workers who are following pandemic protocols. It's the same with the people gathering at this Mass, disrespecting the rest of us believers who stay home and watch on television. Given the neighborhood, I'm not surprised there's a handful of selfish, reckless idiots...
If that deputy chief thinks the one-meter social distancing rule for outdoors applies to everyone equally, he might as well just pin the blame on someone else entirely. That's all I have to say on the matter...

Even though nobody is disputing that yesterday's Holy Mass was a total mess and should have been handled differently under current guidelines.
The only issue is that the people attacking us for defending the right to hold Mass claim the reporter did everything perfectly. She trespassed onto private property and filmed inside the church, breaking the law just because someone else supposedly broke a rule inside. All of it just to manufacture a scandal.

When the people in power break the law, it’s fine, but when she films them, suddenly it's necessary.

Yesterday the issue was that people were indoors, which isn't the same as being outdoors, so today the problem is that they're outside but not keeping their distance.

Trying to argue with certain people is completely pointless; you'd have better luck spray-painting a wall in Wilson and trying to reason with it.

First of all, cut the crap.

Secondly, there are clear rules during this period that everyone is supposed to follow. Holding Holy Mass, or any other large gatherings, is prohibited. Whether indoors or outdoors. After that first incident with that rude peasant and the priest, the authorities should have simply approached the Church and said: either you deal with him, or we will (the government). If the Church doesn't handle it, next time he gets handcuffed, arrested, and jailed. That peasant is spitting on everyone following these measures and her actions are encouraging others to break the rules. Jail. Period.
Look at this gathering in front of the church this morning. A large number of people staying at an inappropriate distance. What part of that isn't clear? If it's banned in all other situations and contexts, then they have no business doing that this morning either. Intervene and disperse them. Anyone who refuses gets detained.

It's the same thing with those Romani people who should have all been dispersed. Anyone who refuses should be thrown in jail for unauthorized filming and obstructing officials in the line of duty.

The Church (in this specific case, one priest), national minorities, or anyone else has no right to act out during these emergency circumstances, and there should be no tolerance for any double standards.

Amy Nelson4 said:Is the priest actually inside the church or out there with everyone? I mean, you do realize the priest is the one leading the Holy Mass, not some guy with a gun, right?

We aren't discussing the priest or who is leading the service. We are talking about large groups of people gathered at an inappropriate distance from one another. Why is it that in this specific instance, one set of rules applies to them, while everyone else follows different ones?...

Actually, it was held outside right in front of the church this morning. People were gathered close together. Back in Kasun, they usually scatter us with the Police when we try to group up even a little bit... but there aren't any issues here.

I completely agree that everyone needs to exercise restraint during this time, without exception. But what about the performance of these Roma in the link, whose actions went almost entirely unnoticed compared to yesterday's Mass? I try to imagine what would happen if a few dozen people gathered in a neighborhood, ignored social distancing, set fire to containers, and harassed or filmed officials... I just can't see them getting the same outcome...

On top of that, once a Holy Mass has started, you aren't supposed to interrupt it.

Is that why today's outdoor Mass in front of the church wasn't stopped, even though the Police are usually so quick to disperse similar gatherings elsewhere?

urbanhawk17 said:They have no business touching her or slamming doors to crush her fingers. It’s just pure circus behavior. Neither of them had any reason to be swinging stuff at a reporter's camera or phone.

Of course they had no right to attack her. If she walks in there and starts filming, an altercation is basically a statistical certainty. She went in looking for a scandal and she found one. Mission accomplished...

restlesssurfer97 said:The bottom line is that this woman basically manufactured a whole drama out of thin air because the church was empty—which, honestly, I’m still wrapping my head around myself—so there was zero actual substance to work with. She walked inside, ran straight into a total jerk, and then got exactly what she wanted: a confrontation she could spin into some big headline. If that guy hadn't stepped up and shut her down, she would've almost certainly marched right up to the altar, filming everything closer and closer until someone else intervened, and when nobody stopped her, she probably would've started badgering those poor old ladies sitting in the pews just to fish for some ridiculous quote so she could make the whole country laugh at how clueless these religious types are.

I agree with you, restlesssurfer97. In this specific instance, I don't feel much empathy for the reporter's injuries because she achieved her goal—a scandal and a headline.

On the other hand, looking back at how these things go, the police should have prevented the gathering, and the priest's church should have been retired and replaced by someone sensible. That will happen eventually, but likely too late...

Everything is always "we think," "we assume," or "we believe." That's not science, that's just being a psychic. Like, they're saying again that the next 2-3 weeks are "critical"—yeah, they said the exact same thing 2-3 weeks ago. 🤣 It blows my mind that there aren't any public debates happening about this situation, and there aren't any other types of scientists on that task force besides those epidemiologists. I'm not talking about conspiracies here; I'm saying there are just way too many weird things, too many gaps, and way too much controversy going on.

But one thing is for sure: they can take their "cure" for Corona and shove it. Of course, just like always, the only solution is some vaccine from the pharmaceutical companies. ☕

It strikes me as strange that almost exclusively epidemiologists make up the expert task force during this pandemic. Why aren't we seeing neurosurgeons, ophthalmologists, or OB-GYNs involved? Something doesn't add up...

Most people here probably spend more than 36 minutes a day scrolling through news about Covid-19 on various media outlets. In that light, watching this video is actually a much more productive use of time. Like I said, if you want to watch an informative video from experts with real-world experience fighting pandemics—rather than our local officials who only have theoretical knowledge prior to this outbreak—then go ahead. If not, feel free to just keep following Beroš...

None of our local experts—from the official FEMA leadership and Rudan to all those US and European specialists I see on TV and online—have explained this virus and how it spreads as clearly or concisely as this doctor from Korea. There were things I hadn't even considered until I watched this video.

For anyone with the time and interest to truly understand the virus, I highly recommend watching this from start to finish...

But I wanted to ask you this: from what I understand—correct me if I'm wrong—only a fraction of those who test positive for COVID-19 actually end up in the hospital. It's mostly the high-risk groups or those with severe symptoms. A huge number of people are just sent home to self-isolate. If someone is infected and isolating in an apartment with family, isn't there a massive chance the others will catch it regardless of how careful they are? Meanwhile, those housemates are going out, hitting grocery stores, pharmacies, or heading to work... not to mention the people who simply don't care about isolation orders even after testing positive. Looking at all these measures against the virus, it feels like trying to plug four small holes in a ship while water is gushing in through the hull...

What I'm getting at is, in an environment inhabited by a group like our North American tribe, unless we can ensure every single confirmed case is placed in actual medical isolation, this whole fight against Corona feels pretty ineffective and somewhat futile...

https://www.buzzfeed.com/news/article/...j/2169229.aspx

This woman is essentially asking the same thing I touched on in my previous post. The strategy regarding confirmed cases without major symptoms seems incredibly weak to me. It doesn't feel like a real attempt to suppress the virus; rather, it looks like an effort to keep infection numbers within a range that keeps the government satisfied. In the end, if that means dozens of deaths or severe illnesses, it all just becomes mere statistics...

Michelle Palmer6 said:Listen, they’re trying their best to keep Firule Corona-free, so they're scrutinizing everyone with ten eyes. They won't be able to stay ahead of it forever just by watching for every possible symptom, but hey, every successful day counts. Triage for emergency admissions is happening in a tent right outside the hospital, so anything even remotely suspicious gets sent straight over to Križin.
Sure, some people might find it overkill and think it causes more panic, but honestly, in this situation, being extra cautious is way better than having a laid-back attitude.

Fear is a natural human response right now, and even some doctors aren't immune to it. That much is clear.

Michelle Palmer6, I've heard some inside info suggesting many doctors at Firule are acting completely reckless as soon as a patient arrives for treatment, all out of fear they might have Corona... Is that actually possible? I thought they were all supposed to be American heroes... 🤔

If I'm not mistaken, the incubation period lasts quite a while, so someone could be infected without developing the antibodies this test would detect. Still, it's a great tool for detection once symptoms actually show up. Assuming, of course, it becomes widely available and stays relatively cheap. I have my doubts about that part, though...
