Prices might be dipping across the board, but don't think for a second that everything is uniform anymore. It’s not just about how much bonus you've banked or the horsepower under the hood. These days, everything is hyper-individualized. They’re looking at your driving history and how long you've stuck with a specific carrier. So, even if two people are driving identical cars with the same specs and the same bonus, their car insurance quotes won't necessarily match up.

Sure, you can play around with all those online calculators, but honestly? My best advice is to just walk into an agency in person and haggle for what you actually need. You usually end up snagging a better rate or throwing in some extra coverage for free if you talk to a real human.

Nope, my math is solid. I’m talking specifically about Washington, D.C., and honestly, I do this job every single day, so I know what I'm talking about.🙂
The thing is, Generalia keeps shouting from the rooftops about having the cheapest coverage, and people need to realize that other insurers aren't stupid enough to just sit there and take it. This is still a massive slice of the insurance market pie.

Do young drivers end up paying more for insurance than someone over 24 if the policy is in their name?

Rates haven't shifted based on age yet, but we'll probably see age-based tiers soon. Some companies are already starting to undercut standard pricing (like Progressive being about 23% cheaper or State Farm at 25%).
Now that we're operating under broader federal standards, insurers have more freedom to set their own rates, provided the SEC signs off on them. Expect some major shifts once the market settles.
The big thing is that liability coverage requirements have spiked—we're looking at $1.5 million for property damage and $3 million for bodily injury on $2850000 for property, plus $42,750 $0.00 for people. You have to wonder which insurance giants will actually be able to stomach those kinds of massive payouts.

Look, quotes and premiums are always at the mercy of how much info you actually dump on them upfront. You think you're getting a sweet deal, then it turns out someone hid a claim or lied about having a 50% safe driver discount when the background check shows it's really only 35%.

I'm taking it!

Well, State Farm offers the exact same policy for $485, so even if General Motors was the first to roll out those new rates, they aren't actually the cheapest option on the market anymore.
