What's the point of required reading? in Students & Teens ·
Kate Williams said:Greetings! I am currently undergoing some career retraining through my school, and I’ve just been handed a list of thirteen required readings for my fourth year.

I was hoping you all might shed some light on the book titled Transformation; it is actually quite unique because it essentially functions as two novels bound together—the first part being Process and the second being transformation.

If my assignment specifically lists "Franz Kafka: Transformation" as the required reading, would I really need to dive into Process as well? Will my instructors be looking for knowledge from that section, or is the work generally treated as one single cohesive book? 😕

Look, those are two totally different works. If the assignment calls for Transformation, then just stick to Transformation.

I dealt with that exact same nonsense countless times during my first pregnancy back when I was visiting the maternity clinic at SDu.
Honestly, I can't decide who's more obnoxious in those moments—the clueless guys or their oblivious partners. 🙄

Exactly... I mean, if my husband were there, he wouldn't even think twice about giving up his seat if he saw a pregnant woman standing—mostly because he actually knows how much it sucks for them. It’s one thing when someone doesn't have kids or their wife isn't pregnant and they haven't experienced any of this firsthand—I get that, I guess, even if I'm not exactly making excuses for them...
So, I was out in Chicago last week for a professional conference, right? And I’m standing there on the L—just totally minding my own business—when this high schooler next to me literally just stares at my stomach, rolls her eyes, and looks out the window like I'm some kind of exhibit. Then, to make matters even more awkward, an elderly lady behind her asks if I want her seat, even though it looked like she was struggling to stay upright herself! Honestly, it wasn't even like I was having a hard time standing—I'm not even in the home stretch of my pregnancy yet—but I just couldn't bring myself to take the seat. It would've felt way too uncomfortable to let that sweet lady stand just for my sake... so yeah, I just stayed on my feet.

Honestly, my blood pressure is hitting the ceiling just hearing people claim we aren't supposed to buy, prep, or get anything ready until after the baby actually arrives 🙂 🙂 🙂

I mean, what if this were my second kid? I’d already have everything staged and ready to go, wouldn't I? 🙂

My own mother tries this stuff with me—she actually had this "plan" where she wanted to take everything we bought for the baby over to her house because apparently, having baby gear sitting in our home is bad luck... so I had to sit her down and explain that when I walk through those hospital doors and come home, I am NOT going to be hunting around for a diaper or a onesie while I'm trying to care for a newborn. I'm going to put my things exactly where I want them, and that's final.
But she isn't the only one I've heard this from... it's all just superstitious nonsense and it drives me absolutely insane.
I am seriously starting to lose my mind with my mother-in-law. She keeps harping on about how she can iron everything and wash all the baby’s laundry—she even suggested my husband should just bring her his dirty diapers so she can handle those too! Honestly? When I point out that he’s more than capable of washing his own kid's diapers, she just rolls her eyes at me... I guess in her head, her son is somehow completely incompetent when it comes to basic parenting chores.

I’ve seriously never had anyone try to push past me in a grocery store, and trust me, I’m a pretty big woman, so people definitely notice me...

The only time I feel like I get any special treatment is when I'm visiting the local farmers' market vendors, because they always seem to give me a little extra of everything and let me pick out the very best produce...😬

So, I’m heading down to the unemployment office tomorrow—and honestly, I'm half-tempted to wear my tightest shirt just to see if they'll even let me through the door. Not that I actually think it'll work, though... I've got a pretty good feeling they're just going to give me that look and tell me to move along. Typical.

If someone acts like that, I’m being incredibly rude right back.
I’m still a little pregnant, so I don't expect everyone to be hyper-aware of my bump, but this one lady just shoved her way ahead of all us pregnant women waiting for delivery... just totally shameless about it. Ugh, I lost it...
The whole Target aisle heard me. Naturally, everyone else in line jumped in to back me up—pregnant women definitely get priority!

I was wearing a baggy shirt, so my bump wasn't even that obvious, which is probably why I stayed calm. But the cashier definitely knew I was pregnant—she saw me roll my eyes when she rang up that person who cut in front of me without saying a single word about it... Honestly, it's almost worse when the employees see a pregnant woman and still let someone jump the line...
It’s not even the fact that nobody lets pregnant women cut ahead that gets under my skin—it’s when some random person decides to jump right in front of me, acting like my bump isn't even there or, even worse, assuming I’m just out of shape... honestly, it happened again today at the Post Office and then at the grocery store, so yeah, I am officially beyond annoyed.
Zachary White5 said:I also heard that thing about breasts—that if they grow a lot, it's definitely a girl because of hormones, but if they stay small, it's a boy... What do you guys think? 😬

Interesting... 🙂 mine have grown two cup sizes already! We don't know the sex yet, but I have a gut feeling it's a girl...

Honestly, it drives me absolutely insane how everyone is constantly pestering me about when we'll find out the gender (maybe I'm being dramatic, but none of these friends asking actually have kids, so they have zero clue how this works) and then there are the random ladies on the street trying to predict everything for me. 🙂
One woman told me it's a girl just because I have a pretty face, and another insisted it's a boy because I'm tall (my mom was super tall too, while my brothers were short).
