When I tell them everything is fine—thankfully, because I actually feel great—they still give me this look of pure disbelief. It’s particularly annoying with my colleagues at Goldman Sachs; they’re all such high-powered career women who either don't have kids or only have one. One of them even had the nerve to ask if it was even healthy to get pregnant again so shortly after giving birth. For what it's worth, I actually conceived my daughter when she was 14 months old, so this isn't even my first time doing this

Listen, those comments from others are just plain stupid, but now that I'm nearing the end of this pregnancy, I find myself constantly wondering how women who already have a little one at home manage to pull it all off while constantly chasing them around and looking after them 😲 seriously, massive props to all you repeat moms out there 😍
Dana Brown8 said:I actually had a standoff with mine about the car seat (she thinks holding the baby in her lap 🙂 is fine), but then I showed her some crash test videos on YouTube and printed out those safety pamphlets from the hospital. Now there's peace. 😁
It was simpler back when we were kids and there were only two beat-up old Ford Pintos or Chevy Novas on the road... times have changed.

you're totally right, you basically need to slap one of those YouTube videos in front of her to get her to snap out of it 🙄 I really thought I could just count on her common sense and stuff, but nope, no luck there...

But then, I’ll run into a neighbor, and just as I’ve made my way down the stairs, she starts shouting after me: "Who is that heavy one? Who is that heavy one!?" I was completely caught off guard—what on earth is happening? I was wearing a jacket, so my midsection wasn't even visible, but clearly, the old ladies in the building have started gossiping about me. I can handle a little neighborhood chatter, but there is absolutely nothing okay about having someone scream at you through an entire apartment complex instead of just speaking to you directly. 🙄

The women who actually know I'm pregnant usually tell me 🙂 they think it's kind of cute, and they aren't even trying to say I'm not "fat," they're basically saying I'm like a walking billboard for pregnancy 😁 (or so I tell myself 🤣)
Kimberly Phillips6 said:A question for the group—are you planning on driving your newborn home from the hospital in a car seat? 😲 "

Ugh, so my mom 🙄 is basically asking how we're supposed to put a newborn in a car seat when she used to just carry us in those little infant pillows when leaving the hospital. And when it's the grandmother of your baby telling you this—someone who's going to be watching them and responsible for them most of the time—you can't just brush it off, right? 😲

Jacob Phillips4 said:What an absolute character of a friend. If that pillow comes with a few stains and spots, I suppose that constitutes some sort of emotional baggage premium you’re expected to pay extra for.

However, I must commend you for having the heart to lend out items that were essentially unused; I would likely grant you a medal for selflessness, as I am far too selfish and self-centered for such behavior... 😳 Anything purchased for my little guy is required to remain in pristine, brand-new condition until the moment he actually wears it (I practically set aside five minutes every single day just to spread them out on the bed and admire them like a total obsessive)... and regardless, I feel a terrible surge of possessiveness whenever I think about the baby and how everyone else will want to hold him... I suppose, other than 😂
, he'll be allowed to touch him.

I don't think you're wrong at all—some days I think to myself that it would be totally fine to lend out stuff that's brand new—like, unused items from my daughter—but once I realize I'm passing on things that my own little girl actually wore and filled with that sweet baby smell, well, I just can't do it. 🤣 Lester, am I crazy? 🤷

Jacob Phillips4 said:On topic: the complete lack of courtesy toward pregnant women. It seems nobody here bothers to offer up a seat, even when someone is sitting in a designated priority spot clearly marked for expectant mothers. Honestly, I find the elderly to be the most difficult demographic—you see them everywhere, especially when you’re stuck in a massive queue at a clinic during the winter flu season. I rarely dare to say anything to them, though if I did, I’d likely be torn to shreds regardless. Just the other day, I was losing my mind waiting at a small Verizon store to finish some business for my partner; if it hadn't been for him, I would have walked out. There were always about five people hovering there, and naturally, since filling out one standard service contract takes forty-five minutes, they managed to form a massive line. Of course, the entire shop only has one single chair. Everyone in that room took turns occupying that one seat, staring at me like I was some sort of alien specimen, yet not a single soul thought to offer it to me. One would think that before taking a seat themselves, they might glance around to see if anyone else in the room actually has priority. I felt physically ill from being in such a cramped space with so many people crowded in; I had to step outside for air several times just to cope. Eventually, I reached my breaking point when some girl in her early twenties wandered in, and I finally asked her if she could let me sit down. She stood up, thankfully. But it is undeniably worse here than even in New York City... there is absolutely no culture of yielding your seat to pregnant women.

I realize this is trivial and that this topic is a constant fixture on this board, but I simply had to vent...

Look, isn't it kind of your own fault that you're pregnant, though? It's almost like that attitude of "well, I did it, so now I'll just sit here, blame's on someone else." It sounds super primitive, but man, how many times have I heard that exact thing while riding the subway or buses in NYC... 😢 🙄

The other day, some self-righteous mom at the American Red Cross asked me to stand up for her daughter, who was struggling to stand because she’s morbidly obese (literally, BMI > 40). I'm sitting there 33 weeks pregnant, she's overweight, and she's trying to lecture me about how hard it is for her little girl... 🙂
wanderinghawk said:Honestly, dogs are healthier than most people... you get them vaccinated annually against all those ailments, and studies show kids raised with pets actually have better immune systems ☕
It irritates me whenever someone asks what I should do with my dog. Usually, it's people who hate themselves in the morning but claim to love the whole world by the afternoon. To them, it’s perfectly normal to euthanize a pet just because a baby is coming 🤷
Besides, this isn't my first child... if I didn't get rid of the pet after the first one, why would I after the second? 🙂

And that's just the tip of the iceberg... I once gave a baby gym to an acquaintance because I received a new one as a gift and didn't need two. That same woman then asked if I wanted to buy the baby gym from her... she barely used it 🤣... so it's clear... I'm being asked to buy back something I originally gave to her 🙂 🙂 🤣

Exactly! 🙂 I’m positive my dog is as healthy as they come—honestly, his hygiene is probably better than half the people I know! And don't even get me started on the benefits of growing up with a dog; the impact that kind of companionship has on a kid is just undeniable, isn't it? 🤷

I can't even begin to tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing them together, seriously! Honestly, he’s just such a total softie when it comes to babies that I can already tell they're going to be absolutely perfect. 😍 At first glance, I'm telling the little one that once he arrives, he’s definitely going to have a big, hairy older brother waiting for him! 🤣

casualnomad18, that dog is seriously brilliant!
Jacob Phillips4 said:Good grief!

So here I am 😲

My mom is being absolutely relentless about her hatred for pets, and now she’s trying to scare us with all these horror stories about parasites, bacteria, and whatever other nasty stuff a little four-legged creature might pass on to my tiny 🙄 God, give me strength...🙂

And then there's this other thing—this friend of mine pops up one day offering me his wife's pregnancy pillow (which, by the way, survived two kids!), but he won't just be a decent human being and let me borrow it, noooooooo, he insists that I buy it from him 😲 and honestly, I found that so incredibly tacky? Like, when all my girlfriends were having babies before me, I was always happy to lend out things I’d already bought for my own little one, and I think a normal rotation of gear (for free) is just how things work, you know? 🤷
blueraven4 said:Right now? I’m totally playing the gender card! Honestly, I'm not having this baby for my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, or any of my friends—I'm doing this for myself and my dad. 🙂
My MIL is already obsessed because she wants a grandson since she's got three granddaughters, and my sister-in-law says she wants a girl just "out of principle" so she can have two. 🙄 Well, I'm not telling anyone anything until they actually meet the little one face-to-face. 🙂
Why do people feel the need to pester pregnant women like this?

🤣😂
Kate+ said:Plus, I’ve been feeling so irritated during my pregnancy, and it honestly feels like my whole tolerance level just plummeted overnight. 😢

Oh man, tell me about it! I have become so incredibly blunt lately, it’s actually kind of wild... 😲 though, if I’m being honest, before I was pregnant, I used to just let people boss me around or be rude because I couldn't even be bothered to argue with idiots, you know? But now? Man, I am just shutting people down left and right whenever they deserve it. 🙄
wanderinghawk said:Squeezing and releasing my fist seems to help a bit 🤷

A neighbor got under my skin today, too. She suggested it was selfish of me to keep working until the very end instead of stopping now 🙂🙂🙂
I guess she thinks I should just wait for complications to arise, even though everything is fine so far... 🤷☕

So, is this neighbor planning on covering the gap in your paycheck while you're out on maternity leave or something? 🙄

Look, if a doctor orders bed rest, that’s the end of the conversation, period. But if everything is feeling fine, why wouldn't you keep working through those last few weeks before the baby arrives? Of course, that’s assuming you aren't doing some heavy lifting at a warehouse or something, because 🤷 honestly, I think I’d lose my mind if I were stuck sitting around doing nothing...
Honestly, I sometimes just feel like messing with people like that by dropping some sarcastic joke, you know? Like, "Oh, we'll just drop her off at an orphanage the second she's born, because there's no way a daughter is stepping foot in this house." I’d love to just sit back and watch the look on 🤣 😂
's faces.
Maybe it actually would be a good idea, though... I mean, people say you won't die from a little bit of banter, right? 🙄
brighttiger6 said:The surroundings!!! It is always about the surroundings. Without them, pregnancy would be a remarkably lovely and tranquil period. So, let us begin:

- You want to use cloth diapers?? Are you actually sane? We literally drove to San Francisco just to stock up on Pampers, and now that they are available at every single corner, you refuse to use them (I am convinced the troops liberated San Francisco specifically for the sake of Pampers 🙂)! You will inevitably realize that cleaning baby feces out of cloth is a nightmare, and you'll be switching back to Pampers within forty-eight hours (not to mention that the prospect of participating in the wonderful tradition of everyone huddling over a changing pad to stare at someone else's child's mess makes me question my future role as a mother)

- You are going to put the crib RIGHT there? There will be a draft! What if you put it over THERE instead (on the other side of the room)? There is no airflow there!! 🤷

- Why did you buy a changing pad (not the whole dresser, just the pad itself) when you could have sourced one from somewhere else?? (Of all things, buying a changing pad from $50 to stick onto our existing dresser is a stinging indictment of our extravagance 🥳 )

- You are going to change the baby in the bathroom?? (It is a source of universal shock and disbelief, because why would I change a baby in a heated bathroom when I could do it in a cooler bedroom or simply tackle the diaper in the living room? Not to mention the obvious fact that I have running water right there)

- No, you absolutely cannot dress the baby in short-sleeved onesies in the winter, regardless of how many layers you pile on top! (We ended up with a small collection of slightly used short-sleeved onesies that we can only use during the warmer months. Generally speaking, my family and company maintain that if they are short-sleeved, they are useless in winter, no matter how many layers follow) 🙂

- Why did you buy onesies? How are you going to pull them over the head? You clearly don't realize how difficult or fragile a baby can be, or how much they resist being dressed.....!! (My child will be a Hulk who wears nothing but tank tops)

- Cotton wool and water? Are you planning to clean the baby with cotton wool and water?? Who even does that anymore in the era of Pampers! (Refer back to point one and the story regarding the liberation of San Francisco for the sake of diapers. 🙂 Specifically, the white, sensitive kind)

To be clear, this is merely something I am saying off the top of my head 😁 I am currently 38 weeks and 2 days along, and I am eagerly anticipating the moment everyone repeats these exact same critiques once the baby arrives, so I can launch them all straight to Mars thanks to my hormones!

God, it feels like I'm reading my own family chat. Can we just collectively put everyone in the top 😉 😁

I also have to add my two cents about waiting for news—like that group of aunts gathered at Walmart around my belly, when the ultrasound tech tells us it's a girl, and they immediately start trying to soothe you with stuff like "Well, as long as they're healthy," or "Oh, don't worry, I had daughters too, it's no big deal," etc. No. Just... no. I simply cannot. 🤦 😕
Harold Miller, honestly, you can't really complain about being pregnant if you're the one who made it happen, right? 🙄 It feels like everyone riding the subway just assumes pregnancy is some huge personal vendetta against them, like we're all just trying to force them off their couches 🙂

Ever since I hit week seven, the mere thought of food makes me want to gag, let alone actually stand over a stove. Between my nose being constantly stuffed up, I’m basically forcing myself to swallow a few bites just to survive, and that’s about as much "cooking" as I can handle.

And then there's those comments from people who know my husband is doing the cooking, acting like he’s some kind of martyr—you know, saying things like "Oh, he's such an angel" or "Poor guy." 🙂 Seriously, it’s like they think men are somehow incapable of making a meal, and if they actually step up to help, they suddenly deserve a sainthood? Like, are we talking about Saint Joseph here? 😕
