Rebecca Thomas27 said:Before I stumbled upon this thread, I hadn't even considered that someone could actually pose the question, "Is it coming back to life?"... yet somehow, that’s exactly what was directed at me today. 🙄 It was such an incredibly bizarre sensation, honestly—just a complete and utter "what on earth?" moment.

I’ve also started noticing this pattern with women who gained quite a bit of weight during their pregnancies and haven't quite managed to shed it even after eighteen months; they seem to stare intently at my midsection, constantly asking if I'm starting to show or if I've been eating more than usual. It feels as though they are just waiting for me to gain weight. Meanwhile, as if purely out of spite, I happen to be maintaining a pretty reasonable weight. 🙂 Granted, I’m only at 17 weeks and 4 days, but I suppose I’m not exactly force-feeding myself enough for two people. 😁

Good grief... I suppose I'm a bit more old-school when it comes to this stuff, and I haven't actually put on much weight; it all seems to have settled right in my stomach, about fifteen pounds over thirty-five weeks. But my girlfriends—none of whom have actually gone through childbirth—keep asking me how on earth I eat like that when I only have a bump, acting as if I should look like an elephant. It's so frustrating.
I think my absolute favorite question was always, "Is there any sign of life?"

The sheer audacity of it all...

I honestly never knew how to react to that one. Everything else was manageable, but this? I mean, seriously, what were they thinking? Sure, people used to talk like that back in the day, but even the women saying it were old enough to know better—they understood perfectly well that the baby was alive. It’s just... goodness me...
I guess I finally fell for it too... honestly, my favorite people are always those who manage to stay one step ahead of you.
1. The eternal engaged couples—when is it actually happening?
Whenever you finally decide to tie the knot... oh, suddenly there’s this, or that...

2. The first-time parents—when do you think it'll be your turn?
"Oh, I'm pregnant..." then immediately it turns into: once the baby arrives, we'll need this, or that, and how are you going to afford all this if you aren't working, blah blah blah.

3. The second-time parents—the kid is growing up, it's time, don't you want another?
So I'm waiting for my second, and they go, "...well, the little one might get jealous, and what if the next one isn't the same gender?"

I am just so incredibly exhausted by these people... it's always some kind of subtle threat.
