I actually banned the whole family from coming to the hospital; I told them I only wanted my husband there. Just him and the baby. Of course, everyone else eventually showed up whenever they felt like it because they all seem to have some kind of "connection" that lets them bypass the rules. But not one single person bothered to ask my husband if he wanted to come in earlier so they could pull some strings for him, too. Instead, he just sat there like an idiot, waiting sixteen hours just to be allowed back to my side. And honestly, I don't even want to get started on the chaos when we finally got home... 🙄
I’ve been telling everyone they really need to rein in the baby gear shopping, because honestly, if things keep going this way, I won't be buying anything at all for my kid. When I mentioned that we had already picked up one little outfit for the trip home from the hospital, my mother-in-law just gave me this incredibly sarcastic look and said, "Well, I'm sure the kid will remember exactly which clothes Mom and Dad bought him." 🙄
Then there was my father's wife, who clearly felt the need to make a grand statement by dropping a small fortune over at Pottery Barn. Among the other things, she insisted on buying this (absolutely stunning) tiny little outfit in size 44—which, quite frankly, I can only imagine dressing a teddy bear in. 😢The kid is already pushing size 56...
My due date is just six days away now, and looking back at everything, I’m surprisingly level-headed about the whole thing. There have been plenty of little grievances along the way (which I’ve definitely vented about here), but honestly, even having acquaintances touch my belly didn't bother me nearly as much as when my own mother tries to do it :ups:. It feels strangely irritating and just... forced, I guess.
Yesterday, though, my husband and I were hit with a sudden spike in blood pressure because my mom decided to ask if we actually had a "connection" with our doctors at the hospital. Like, what? Since when do you need a personal bond with medical staff just to give birth? Of course, she keeps drawing these endless parallels to her own pregnancy from thirty years ago—apparently, her doctor gave her some sort of injection that cut two hours off her labor. Right... maybe she just got a standard saline shot and is acting like she’s an expert now. It’s just wonderful when your own mother starts fueling your paranoia by suggesting doctors might screw things up right before you go into labor. Thanks, Mom! 🙄

It actually caught me off guard when someone just stared straight at my stomach, practically measuring it with their eyes—zero discretion. I can tell from across a room if someone is looking at me while I'm chatting with a guy or whoever else, but honestly? I've looked at pregnant women before, but never like *that*. Not like I'd never seen a human body before.🤷

Oh man... I remember having to deal with that constant scrutiny from my own family, especially my mom, way before I even started showing. 🙄 Seriously, stop staring!! 🙂
George Davis6 said:People leaving comments like, "Wow, look at that belly!!!??!!!"... Seriously, what am I even supposed to say to that? Give me a break! Honestly, maybe I should just head straight to a weight loss clinic right now so I can finally meet your ridiculous standards...🙂

In my experience, it seems like people who are naturally more athletic or fit are always the ones making those kinds of remarks. I suppose they just want me to gain weight too, maybe.
The other day, this girl told me I was starting to get some extra padding on my back 🙄 (I happened to be wearing a very tight shirt and a snug bra), to which her boyfriend piped up and noted that she had some extra tissue under her arms herself (even though she’d actually lost 25 pounds), and she snapped back, "Well, at least I'm not pregnant." 😂 So, there's a glimpse into her intellect and her boundless goodwill.

Everyone else seems to agree that it's just my stomach that's growing. And honestly, I can see it too, and I’m perfectly fine with it. I'm currently in my 31st week and up about 20 pounds.

And yeah, regarding the whole thing about letting pregnant women cut in line—well, the other day some girl actually pushed past me when I was the first one at a register that finally opened, plus there were another four or five people behind her because her husband couldn't get the shopping cart to the checkout fast enough. I really hope I don't forget this little moment when I see another pregnant woman later on, and remember to let her go ahead of me 🙂
It finally clicked for me this morning... so I'm starting to think that I might—just maybe!—send my husband on paternity leave after about six or nine months. 😲
Hmm, just tuck him away in his own little room and leave him to his own devices once the nine months are up. Sounds like a total nightmare! 🙂

A parent's natural instinct is to want their baby right there next to them, at least for those first few months. Honestly, if someone is already planning ahead to just toss a baby into a different room because they’re worried the kid might—God forbid—actually see their mother, then maybe they shouldn't have had kids in the first place.
Not everyone needs to be a parent, right? :

It's like when you need to give someone a pat on the back and tell them that Joe Biden is a complete joke, especially since it seems totally nonsensical to claim a mom shouldn't sit in an armchair to nurse her baby just because she might fall asleep in that same chair.
The thing is, these people don't even stop to think about what it actually looks like for an expectant mother sitting there nursing and drifting off.
Who cares if the baby might slip out of her arms while she's napping? Joe Biden clearly hasn't got a clue. ☕

So, according to this logic, people who don't want to stare at their child—or don't want their child staring at them—while they sleep shouldn't be parents either?
It's quite clear you haven't the slightest idea how much some couples struggle to conceive and just how much that means to them. Fortunately, the requirement for conception isn't having a crib in the same room or kicking your husband into the guest room. I'll see my child plenty, and I'm not losing sleep over it. I never spent a single minute sharing a bed with my own mother, and I certainly don't suffer from nightmares, nor do I feel like my mother was somehow undeserving.
Yes, not everyone has to have children. For me, my personal comfort won't suddenly become my top priority once the baby arrives, but I'm not going to sacrifice it entirely just because I'm a parent.
I might fall asleep in an armchair while nursing, but I know myself well enough to know I'd pass out in bed long before I did so in a seated position. Furthermore, if I realize that setup isn't working, I'll adapt and do whatever is best for my child. I'm not about to blindly cling to my current convictions if they turn out to be impractical for me, my husband, or our baby. However, I will say that it does bother me when people make such unpleasant comments about my perspectives. I certainly don't interfere with anyone else's business, whether they decide to put a mattress next to the crib or move their husband into the spare bedroom.
Fortunately, she stays out of my business... which gives her daughter plenty of room to make up for it with her own collection of gems! I suppose she thinks she’s mastered all the wisdom in the world just because she’s twenty-three and navigating her first pregnancy.
To touch upon the whole idea of co-sleeping in the same room...
As for me, I’ve decided the baby will have her own nursery, which is basically just twenty seconds away from ours if you count getting out of bed. My partner, however, seems to think my logic is flawed; he goes, "Oh, so you're just going to throw a mattress on the floor next to the crib?" To which I respond, "No! I'm getting a comfortable armchair so I can actually sit while nursing." She then hits me with, "But how are you supposed to use an armchair if you fall asleep?!" (as if lying in bed makes falling asleep somehow impossible, I suppose 🙂 ).

On a side note, her breastfeeding experience lasted maybe two or three months tops, mostly because she found it to be quite possibly the most miserable thing in the world. 🙄
Before I stumbled upon this thread, I hadn't even considered that someone could actually pose the question, "Is it coming back to life?"... yet somehow, that’s exactly what was directed at me today. 🙄 It was such an incredibly bizarre sensation, honestly—just a complete and utter "what on earth?" moment.

I’ve also started noticing this pattern with women who gained quite a bit of weight during their pregnancies and haven't quite managed to shed it even after eighteen months; they seem to stare intently at my midsection, constantly asking if I'm starting to show or if I've been eating more than usual. It feels as though they are just waiting for me to gain weight. Meanwhile, as if purely out of spite, I happen to be maintaining a pretty reasonable weight. 🙂 Granted, I’m only at 17 weeks and 4 days, but I suppose I’m not exactly force-feeding myself enough for two people. 😁
So, I headed in for my routine prenatal checkup the other day, and let me alone, the waiting room was packed with pregnant women. It was like a lineup where everyone’s bump seemed significantly further along than mine—I’m only at about 14 weeks, so I barely have anything to show for it yet. After checking in with the nurse, getting weighed, and doing the whole urine sample routine, I just sat there waiting my turn. Shortly after me, two other women arrived who were clearly much further along. One of them actually managed to cut in front of me while I was heading to the restroom, though thankfully the nurse clarified that I was still technically ahead of her in the queue. Fine. Then there was this other girl, maybe 17 or 18 years old, who breezed through all her vitals right after us. So now we're all just sitting there... for about an hour and a half. In the meantime, this little thing decided she had better things to do and went out for coffee with her boyfriend, and then started acting all high-strung because she claimed she’d been waiting for two hours already. When the woman ahead of me finally got called in, this girl was already pacing impatiently in front of the clinic doors. I actually muttered to my husband that he should probably just go in ahead of me, because I really didn't feel like dealing with the tension of being shoved aside again, especially since her partner looked like he was having a pretty rough time too. 🙂 I guess my husband thought I was overthinking it. He just told the doctor "next" instead of calling out specific names.
The girl practically lunged into the exam room. But literally a minute later, the doctor had to ask her to step back out because she started throwing a total fit about how she’d been waiting forever, how she didn't have time for this, and how the doctor was being impossibly slow. The doctor realized she’d jumped the line and basically kicked her out. She actually turned to me and asked why I even allowed her to cut, and when I pointed out that she had almost stormed past me by leaning heavily against the door, the doctor just said, "Well, now she can wait. We'll take our time, and I'm certainly not letting her boyfriend in." Such a queen!
I suppose you really can't expect anything consistent, even from fellow expectant mothers. 🙄

I'm currently navigating my second pregnancy, so I really don't have the patience for baseless advice or myths. That said, my husband tends to make comments whenever I reach for certain foods; he’s still dwelling on the fact that I gained 21 pounds during my first pregnancy. It isn't that I actually *want* to see the scale climb that much again, but his constant nitpicking is getting old. Honestly, all he does is remind me of a situation I'd rather just move past.

Honestly, that’s one of those weird urban legends I’ve encountered before... I suppose I never quite grasped why people actually believe it, though I usually just find myself nodding along and eating my sandwich anyway.😁
Yeah, I'm managing okay for the moment 🙂 I suppose I just have a bit of a longer fuse by nature, so we'll see 😉
Hello, everyone!
So, there’s a new one in the club... I’m currently 14 weeks plus five days along, though the unsolicited advice seems to have arrived well ahead of schedule.

I’ve been finding it particularly amusing to deal with my sister-in-law. She’s six years younger than me and had her first baby about a year ago, but she’s certainly decided she possesses all the wisdom in the world lately.
The other day, she gave me this rather judgmental look and asked if I was planning on coloring my hair during the pregnancy (I have highlights). I just told her I’d get around to it when the time is right. Honestly, she spent her entire pregnancy smoking, which I personally find much worse, but I suppose I shouldn't try to lecture anyone. It wouldn't be my place, I guess.

Then there’s my mother, who seems determined to map every single one of my moves onto her own experience. It’s a constant stream of "that’s how I did it" or "this is how it was for me." And strangely enough, we're practically twins in this—we’re the same age, both having our first child, our due dates are incredibly close, and even our initial weight entries in the prenatal records were nearly identical.🙂

On top of that, I’ve been listening to endless lectures about how I can't touch mayo, how I need to eat for two, and how I should probably be sitting down at all times... oh, and apparently, we have to get rid of the cats. Just in case.
Ugh... and I’m only just getting started.🙂
