honestly, I'm swamped with work on appliances right now so I don't have any time to learn how to service this stuff. nothing really needs replacing, just some grease, bedding, whatever... even though I've had cables since day one, maybe 6215 miles if not longer...
So, I’ve got a bike rack up for grabs too (probably gonna DIY one myself...) 🙂
Anyway, if anyone wants me to build them a custom money holder for their cash, just let me know... I can easily scrape some dough together and head over to the bank to settle up..
I just wanna know how I can build these frame clamps myself. Making the stand is the easy part... The only thing I can think of is using those screw tensioners, but they aren't nearly as fast as a clamp. You have to keep screwing them in and out every single time.
I'm broke as hell... but I've got gym gear I'm building myself. if anyone wants a wall bar, dip station, or something similar for around $100 (roughly what a pro would charge), hit me up. anyway, this is the wall bar I'm talking about, priced at $100.
took me 42 minutes today for 13 miles, averaging 29.4. my new record for the year. unfortunately, the route was shorter because I had to stop at Best Buy, and then I finished the rest of the 1.2 miles (my usual route) walking on the sidewalk with my girlfriend...
cosmicbison50 said:I usually bike to work every season (April to October). My commute is from my suburban neighborhood to Downtown and takes about 35 minutes. At the end of last year, I started having back issues (herniated disc) and I'm not sure if biking is a smart move. My doctor said it's fine, but I'm still unsure. Anyone got advice?
whatever you do, just keep your back straight. works for biking too, then you won't have any issues.
So basically... hiddenviper17, where the hell are you even riding? maybe I get it... if you're riding in a city packed with stoplights and no green wave, just stick to the sidewalk between pedestrians where you can barely hit 10 mph. Toss in some crappy weather and you get this mess. Advice: take a bike to the curb.
@excentric - can't wait to ditch this backpack and just strap some saddlebags on. Every single time I ride with a bag, my jacket ends up soaked like someone dumped a bucket of water on me...
So, 14 miles were right behind me. Honestly? Surprisingly chill, though there are definitely some things I’d fix next time. Gear-wise—I wore cycling shorts, some long military-style pants, and these "light" ski pants. They aren't super thick, just thin material, but they have this mesh lining that keeps the heat in perfectly. For my top, I layered a bike jersey under a regular long-sleeve shirt, then topped it off with a Kilimanjaro jacket (not the flimsy kind, the thicker one with the fleece lining inside). Just standard socks and winter boots, and I wasn't even cold. On my head, I had a scarf around my neck—though next time I need to tighten it more because it was rubbing against my neck. My mouth was exposed, so I just used a bandana wrapped over my ears and a hat. Pro tip: don't bother with a basic knit beanie; you need a thicker one. Also, glasses. I used cheap ones from Target, but they kept fogging up. Since I was wearing two layers of gloves (thick ones), I didn't have enough dexterity in my fingers to fix them. Double layering gloves makes them windproof, but obviously not waterproof, so don't count on them if it starts raining. It took me about 20% longer to get there, but whatever, it was a good ride. The fog was insane—from the outskirts of Chicago down to the suburbs, I was stuck riding on the sidewalk, and from the suburbs into the city, I was stuck on the shoulder of the highway. I had my lights on and a reflective vest.
Thinking about biking to work tomorrow, but man, it was freezing this morning—like sub-zero. I was shivering just walking in the jacket I'm supposed to ride in tomorrow. Ugh... I've got the afternoon shift, but still, tonight's gonna be a total pain... uh... and 14 miles one way...

Started working this week and hit the gym 3 times out of 6, but I ended up oversleeping at my girl's place last night, so that’s 2 days wasted. My commute is like 14 miles each way.
