Hannah Allen5 said:Honestly, there isn't much of a difference between calling me or meeting up in person—if I’m in a position where I can offer you a discount, I’ll give you that same price whether we talk over the phone or face-to-face, though I guess the main perk of the phone is just having a direct line if anything suddenly changes. Just... please, don't go rushing into things with the very first person you happen to stumble upon.

@Hannah Allen5, I just sent that breakdown over to your inbox via DM.

Maybe I didn't explain myself well. What I meant was that it's better to reach out to all the insurance companies directly—either by phone or in person—to see what they actually offer instead of just blindly trusting whatever pops up on Google. Since I live right near a local DMV, almost every major insurer had an office within a five to ten-minute walk from my place, so I just went into every single one to talk to them personally.

Last year, when I first registered a car in my own name, I started by checking Compustar and then hit up various local insurance agencies... Since I didn't have any no-claims bonus yet (meaning I was paying the full 100% premium), I wasn't asking for discounts or expecting anyone to throw in freebies... After hitting up 8 or 9 different companies, the quotes I received varied by more than $333... My cheapest option was $627, while the most expensive one was $973...
To be clear, this was without any bonus applied—I was still at 100%. This year, I'll be at 90% once the registration goes through... This was just the raw difference in their base offers...
So, I still think it’s better to go see an agent in person and actually sit down to talk things through with them...
