Canada discussion: Strict border control and entry rules in Feedback & Suggestions ·
With all due respect, you guys are just contradicting yourselves now.

Henry Moore2 said:This thread is strictly for socializing.
Any trolling will be dealt with—strictly speaking—and if you have questions about moving, please look for info here.

(A big thanks to our resident gentleman for gathering all these links!)

Any questions regarding emigration in this thread will be deleted and/or result in a ban.

Enjoy!

ambermason16 said: The thread is open to anyone who wants to join in, whether they're Canadian or not. But the goal here is just hanging out and swapping casual info. Since the main topic is packed with links useful for anyone looking to move to Canada—plus two other massive threads that cover basically every question imaginable in extreme detail—we feel like the Canadians have officially done their part in keeping everyone informed.

At the same time, we're reiterating—this thread isn't meant for questions about emigration, immigration, visas, paperwork, jobs, or anything else that usually makes up 90% of the Canada-related chatter. Please read the PDF rules and use the resources already provided. Any "technical" questions posted here will be deleted and/or lead to a ban. It’s probably time for everyone to put in a little effort themselves. You have all the material right there.

Thanks.

rustydrifter10 said:I was actually chatting with Henry Moore2 about this exact thing, and she told me that on this Canadian social thread, you can totally drop questions even if they've been answered a million times before, or if they're super specific, or if you just can't find a single shred of info on Google or from the Embassy.

First you say nothing about emigration is allowed, then you say it actually is (?!)

How am I supposed to know I won't get banned if I do end up asking something?

Henry Moore2 said:It’s been months, maybe even years, that I haven't seen a single fresh question that hasn't already been answered in one of the last three threads. Or, if it's something really specific, you could just call the Embassy and talk to someone who actually works there.

If anyone ever does run into a real curveball, feel free to just drop it in the thread for the diaspora living in New York City.

That's just not how it works, considering immigration rules shift almost every single year—think Working holiday visas, provincial programs, and all that jazz. When you deal with the Embassy, you get these incredibly brief, half-baked answers; they don't seem to have any interest in giving a meaningful response, they just parrot the URL of the official website like some kind of automated script.

Do you honestly believe that the rules for moving to America aren't going to change again?
Do you think the situation as it stood back at the end of 2012 is somehow final?

Where am I supposed to go to hear from people who are actually planning to move this year?

The one solitary thread about Canada has such a pathetic turnout, and frankly, it’s because of all your bans. The level of interest speaks for itself—you've got a whole thread dedicated to bans and strictness within the Canada topic... meanwhile, my thread, which was strictly about emigration, was shut down expressively fast, even though I had support from everyone who showed up there... I just don't get it.🤷

I went through all thirteen pages of your CHAT thread, and honestly, only one person on the forum is openly complaining—she's clearly annoyed by anything remotely American now that she’s settled in Canada, and she made it very clear she can't stand people asking her anything related to the moving process. (Though, I highly doubt she felt that way when *she* was the one scrambling for info back home—it's that classic mindset: "everyone help me when I need it, but don't bother me when I'm the one being asked"... but anyway, that's off-topic, so I'll stop!) A much larger group of people (including Canadians themselves) told you guys that this setup doesn't make sense, to which your response was basically that you don't know what to do or how to please everyone. Here's my suggestion: let this CHAT thread stay exactly as it is, but unlock my thread and let it be exclusively for emigration, just like I laid out in my opening post. That way, those of us still planning our move to Canada can access fresh information, while those who find immigrants annoying can stick to their own chat thread about the weather, nightlife, echoes, and other "vital" topics. (My blood pressure is starting to rise a bit as I type this, and I'm pretty exhausted, so bear with me.)

here’s the link

I laid everything out right there... and honestly, looking back, it seems like everyone ended up being on the same page as me in that thread anyway.

I’m a bit confused—why was my thread about Canada locked? Is there some kind of rule now against talking about Canada?

I mean, I thought I laid out pretty clearly why the topic should stay open, yet here we are. It feels a little lopsided when one serious discussion gets shut down, while something totally mindless—like that "swallowing" thread (I think that’s how it was titled)—is allowed to run wild with ten different sequels, where people basically just post emojis or a couple of words just to hit their daily post limit.

If the thread is locked, how are we supposed to actually connect with people who are planning to move under these new regulations? How are we meant to find those bits of practical advice that you won't find on any official government website, but which actually make the whole emigration process manageable?

It feels like Canada is being singled out here, whereas everyone can talk freely about Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and plenty of other places without an issue.

I’d really appreciate some answers to these questions—and please, let’s skip the generic canned responses. I'm looking for something specific.

Thanks!

I’m actually curious about this too—how exactly is the guy cheating?

@ Nicholas Palmer75

how long does it usually take for winnings to land in your sportsbook account from DraftKings, and then how long before they actually hit your personal bank account?
also, when you're withdrawing from DraftKings, are you sending it to a foreign currency account or just a standard USD one at your bank? do you lose much on the exchange rate, or is it pretty negligible?

@Nicholas Palmer75/">@@Nicholas Palmer75

Are you using DraftKings? What’s your take on them so far?
What currency are you running with? Does the exchange rate eat up too much of your bankroll? I can't quite remember which one makes the most sense for deposits...

I’ve been lurking in this thread for a while now—just watching from the sidelines—and I finally decided it was time to actually put some money down. Most of you guys seem to swear by PayPal or BetMGM, so I figured that was the move. But then, get this—I went to check out DraftKings, thinking it would be straightforward, only to realize they're charging something like fifty cents per transaction (!?). It felt a bit off, so I wanted to see if anyone here already uses BetMGM could weigh in... what does it actually end up costing you in the long run? Or am I just totally misreading how this works?

Also, are there any other decent ways to pay—maybe something free—that aren't PayPal or BetMGM? My only real dealbreaker is that I really don't want to use a credit card.

Look, when you feel called out and decide you need to drag a private DM conversation over here to settle things—which is pretty unprofessional, if you ask me—it makes me wonder: if someone misses a bet, is it really "provocation" for me to point out they missed? And regarding that money-back thing, I already said it was a joke—take it however you want to take it!

Regarding that "oh, look at these experts" post, I actually stepped up and apologized on my own. I took the ban, and I even explained the full context to you in a DM—basically explaining that people are constantly missing their picks—but you just refuse to acknowledge it and keep shoving that one post back in my face for the nth time. Just try to understand that I’ve already served the penalty for that post and moved on!!

My last ban actually came from you, following some rather questionable warnings from your colleague Joshua Garcia8. She flagged me in the Formula 1 thread—and honestly, she doesn't seem to know the first thing about F1, though I guess it doesn't matter since she's a moderator—simply because I dared to offer an argument that countered some "great expert." I can't even link to his post right now—I can't find mine or his because it looks like Joshua Garcia8 deleted it—where he was indirectly mocking Kimi Räikkönen's "incompetence." I know a lot of people might not get the reference, but unfortunately, that's how it works here; the moderators act like they own the place, so you can't even provide a link to back yourself up. If I present an argument that doesn't align with your resident "sports gurus," it's labeled as insulting other users and gets sanctioned immediately. The community is right—this kind of behavior is exactly why you've already driven away several genuinely talented bettors.

And I'm genuinely curious what the admins think about you telling me to just leave the sub-forum if I don't like it. This isn't your private living room, man!

The way you're acting just totally validates what I wrote in my previous post about ego trips.

Bryan Adams6 said:Man, you’re just hating for no reason... if you’ve got beef with the mods, take it to their DMs. Posting here just makes you look pathetic, whining about how much detail isn't in the PDF when you could actually step up and write something useful every day to make this sub better instead.
stormyseal9 actually puts in the work. He hates the rules, sure, but he follows them and posts daily so people can grab those picks and make a quick buck since they don't follow the sport themselves. You and guys like you are just complaining. The mods aren't perfect, and the PDF sucks, but what are you doing to fix it? 👎

Is there even any point in posting on a thread where the mods just delete your stuff and won't let you get a word in edgewise?

Daniel Ward87 said:Hey everyone.

I’ve been reading through this thread and looking at the posts you flagged, and honestly, I think everyone is getting a little carried away here.

The PDF rules being discussed are pretty straightforward, so there isn't much to debate there. These accusations that a moderator snitched to get someone banned are just ridiculous. At the end of the day, you own your actions—if you get banned, that's on you, not someone else. On that specific thread, more was clear about what went wrong, pointed to the rules, and gave a one-hour window to open a ticket. Besides, even someone like me who knows nothing about betting can see that trying to claim money for a game that's already finished wouldn't fly anywhere.

Regarding the issue with quoting mods, George Barnes25, the rule is simple: don't comment on or quote moderator warnings within the thread. If you have an issue with a warning, just shoot a DM to the mod or start a ticket here. Breaking that rule can lead to sanctions, though whether someone actually gets penalized is entirely up to the moderator. That said, I do agree that more could have toned down her tone in those warnings. It also gets a bit confusing when a mod switches between acting as a community member and acting as staff. Personally, I use blue text whenever I'm writing in my capacity as an admin/mod, and everything else is just my opinion as a regular user. If everyone followed that, we wouldn't have this confusion, so I highly recommend it.

As for this whole "clan" thing, it's incredibly hard to call. I'm not a regular over at BetMGM, and to give a truly objective opinion, I'd need to spend more time there to see if there's any truth to it. That's why we always say: post the controversial links so we can actually discuss them; otherwise, it's nearly impossible to catch anything.

If you want strict adherence to the rules, they have to apply to both sides. If we go too far that way, we risk making the board feel sterile, which I don't think anyone wants. But finding that line is up to you guys, since you're the ones living it every day. My advice to the mods would be to soften their communication style a bit. As for everyone else, just read the rules and try to coordinate better with the mod team.

That feels like a near-impossible mission, honestly. The mods have all the leverage—they can wipe out other people's posts (which happens quite a bit), but regular users can't. So how are we supposed to post a link that actually helps our case?

I've walked away from several threads before because of biased moderation, which I think is a real shame. Most of those threads pretty much died once I left, since it was usually just two or three of us actually answering everyone else's questions...

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place for this—admins or mods, please don't ban me if it isn't—but I feel like we need some new rules, or maybe just to scrap some of the old ones. Given how many threads there are here, ranging from trivial fluff to really important discussions, would it be possible to limit bans to just one specific thread (wherever the ban happened) or maybe just a section of the subforum? It seems pointless and a waste to ban someone from the entire site. Some mods seem to be on a massive ego trip, turning their own threads into these weird little fiefdoms where you never know what you can or can't say because the standards are always shifting...

I'm intentionally not calling anyone out by name or pointing to specific threads, mostly because I'm exhausted from repeating myself for the hundredth time. I’d just ask the admins if they could give me an answer to this. It's a real pity to lose access to the truly important content just because of a misunderstood word in some random, unimportant thread.

copperdrifter24 said:Hey there, good people... I'm pretty young and definitely an amateur when it comes to betting, so I figured I’d join this forum to see if I can pick up some wisdom from the veterans here.
I want to open an account with an online sportsbook, but I'm totally stuck on which one to choose. From what I can gather—and maybe I'm just misreading the room—most people don't seem all that thrilled with Bet-at-home. I could be wrong, though, which is exactly why I'm asking you guys—which one should I actually go with? Also, another thing—I'm looking to put down about 50 USD to start, and my plan is to focus exclusively on ties. I was thinking of chasing X results using a doubling strategy... starting small with 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 USD, because—and I really hope I'm right here—I'm banking on the idea that a team like Fiorentina in Italy won't pull off more than five draws in a row without a win or loss breaking the streak.
What do you all think? Any advice would be huge, mostly because if this is a bad idea, I’d rather know now before I turn a small mistake into a massive financial headache. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to chat.

If that's your style, you might have better luck hunting for ties in hockey. In the Swiss or American leagues, they happen quite often, and the payouts are much juicier than in soccer—usually hovering around 4.

Eric Fox7 said:Just hold off until game day—that parlay is almost certainly going to be a solid bet at our local sportsbooks, because that’s usually how these things play out. I’m eyeing something around 1.35-1.45 for Real Madrid.

That assumption is basically a recipe for disaster...

Eric Fox7 said:The odds are already live at the usual spots (DraftKings, Lottery, DraftKings, I haven't checked the others), and everyone is sitting at @ 1.30 for Real Madrid

I'll bet you anything the odds will be higher by the time the game actually starts, so do whatever you want

Not exactly a strong guarantee... 1.3 is basically even money at the books (DraftKings, Lottery, haven't looked elsewhere)
Best offshore sportsbooks for online betting? in Betting Forum ·
it's not about doubling down—you just need a draw once every four games to break even, and honestly, seeing ties in the NHL isn't exactly rare if you actually bother to look at the season stats

It really pays off if you’ve got a healthy bankroll. I tend to bet on hockey quite a bit—it's where I make most of my money, actually—and when things go sideways for me, 90% of the time it's because of an NHL tie. It’s easily the most balanced league out there; anyone can beat anyone on any given night

He was actually up for a bit... though if you take a look at the odds for a draw in hockey, they’re consistently sitting above 4, while the moneyline picks for either side usually hover around 2—and that’s not even talking about those bottom-tier teams that just can't catch a break.

1. I only touch those 1.01 odds once in a blue moon.
2. Honestly, where you choose to bet those tiny margins actually matters quite a bit.
3. Look, a small win is still better than walking away empty-handed.
Do you really think chasing massive long shots—say, anything over 5.00—is any more profitable?

I'm not going to lecture you—everyone else here has already said what I was thinking anyway—but here’s a quick example of how someone actually made money at a sportsbook (though you definitely need a deep pocket for this). This guy picked one specific team in the NHL and just consistently bet on a draw—well, if we're talking hockey logic, he played the outcome steadily—and by the end of the season, he was up big. If you have the stomach (and the bankroll) to handle the swings, it works.

So, the whole idea is that you're playing blackjack with maybe 5 or 6 decks—52 cards each—and you basically track the face cards. You're counting how many have hit the table and how many are still left in the shoe... I don't know the exact mechanics of it off the top of my head, mostly because I haven't really sat down to memorize the entire system—it’s a pretty massive thing to learn—but you can find everything online if you look for it. Just search for "blackjack basic strategy" or whatever. If you can fly under the radar and they don't catch on to what you're doing, you can actually make some decent money.

Noah Thompson said:What do you guys think—would it be a smart move to start playing around with something like a $10 chip?

Or maybe just $20... honestly, I’d probably hit my target way faster that way—unless, of course, I end up...

I messed up right at the starting line... 😍

I wouldn't advise it—honestly, it’s probably not worth the headache. First off, you'd need a massive bankroll just to stay in the game long enough to see anything happen. And second, if you try that at an online casino, the moment they catch onto your pattern, they'll just freeze your account and leave you staring at a zero balance—you might get lucky a couple of times, sure, but that's about it. If you try the same thing at a brick-and-mortar casino, they'll just show you the door before you can even blink.

Noah Thompson said:I might give it a shot—I saw someone selling a roulette strategy over on eBay, though I can't say I'm holding my breath.
At $18—or whatever that conversion works out to—it feels like a bit of a stretch, honestly. It doesn't really seem to fit the logic of this specific strategy... anyway, just my two cents.
It’s more about doubling up on roles rather than anything else—the guy basically just moved forty units and called it a day.
The reviews are looking pretty solid—everyone’s giving it thumbs up—and honestly, it looks like you can bank around $20 a day if you play your cards right. Just a steady little side hustle, really.
I might pull the trigger on this. What’s the consensus?

I honestly think someone is trying to sell you a load of nothing here—just pure smoke and mirrors. All those games are built entirely on mathematical models, and you can bet your life they’re designed specifically so that the house always comes out on top... it's just how the math works.
The only thing that actually makes any sense is sticking to basic strategy for blackjack—you know, like the card counting stuff they showed in *Rain Man*. But honestly? Even that won't save you in the long run. The floor supervisors will spot you eventually—they know the math just as well as you do and they aren't exactly blind to card counters. Though, I suppose if you end up at some smaller, local casino in the Midwest where the dealers are a bit more laid back and might not catch on immediately... well, maybe you'll have a chance. If you’re going to follow any kind of system, that’s really your best bet.
