Honestly, I haven't had a good laugh like that in a minute. 🤣
Anyway, my bad TzU—I'm glad you're digging that song by The Beatles. I guess there's really no arguing with taste! Maybe I was just listening to the rest of their discography a little more intensely than most, kind of like a hundred thousand other die-hard fans out there.
So, if "Filigree" catches your ear, definitely check out the rest of the tracks on the album.
You won't regret it.
Just watch out so you don't get sucked too deep into the rabbit hole... just say no.
🙂

Nobody's having a better time than us (classic little gems)
Man, you're being way too naive
if you think that works in our neck of the woods
you've got decent footwork but you're acting crazy
get yourself a red card
Aren't you just glad to be here?
It doesn't get any better, even in my dreams
And nobody's having a better time than us
just wishing every day was like this
Soccer is the real deal
we make a perfect pair
old timers, you and me
we're just two old hillbillies
I love you, Pops
abada abada
Sorry coach, I wasn't paying attention
didn't realize the field was so hard
I lost the ball
I missed my shot
don't give me a red card
I'm just happy to be part of the team
it doesn't get any better, even in my dreams
Man, you caught me off guard. At first, I thought they were blasting this at the stadium, but that would be even more surreal. They released it straight from the studio!
Now I don't know what to think, but I've got a feeling this might actually be the Year of Miracles... maybe Johnny will make a comeback, who knows..? 😁
Saying "Johnny will return" is right up there with this track—which, honestly, is one of the more forgettable songs from those old records—about soccer.
...
I lost the ball
I missed my shotSo, just think about it.

when the rain drives everyone off the streets
the city somehow feels a little more human
she spits on the great rivers
getting used to them over time
and when you're desperate to find your way back
just look
I'm mesmerized by your own shadow
on the windowpane
in the mirror
right there at the door
(man, I always end up picturing Johnny's scream from the concert during this part...)
👋
A heavy silence is settling over the city.
It’s just this slow, steady grind that keeps wearing me down.
Springtime again...
(...or whatever season we're in)
I was just reading about how some kid actor had the nerve to tell a punk band they needed to "re-record" the sound of the region. Honestly, the lead singer just shut him down. Like, why bother? Go ahead and re-record those old nursery rhymes if you want. What a joke.
One word is enough...
But I'm not going to lose sleep over it—honestly, it’s better when the sun comes out and says:
your face quickly fades
into the nearest corner out of my sight
the question is whether I'll ever see you again...
And I won't obsess over it; dwelling on it just hurts.
The sunny side of the street
watching all the pretty girls pass by
It really is kind of lonely being by myself on a gorgeous day like this
Hey there!
Anyway, wishing everyone the absolute best in this new year (2004, just in case :-))...
I haven't been on the forum in a minute, but I was honestly surprised to find a few kindred spirits here who used to be obsessed with Queen.
Just like I was back in the day.
So, yesterday I finally took the time to rip all of Queen's CDs into MP3s at 192kbps and burned them onto one single 800MB CD. Just enough to have something decent to listen to while I'm driving.
Cyn, it’s pretty cool how much our experiences with Queen line up... everything from "Bohemian Rhapsody" to "Tie Your Mother Down"—you just get sucked into that incredible synergy between Freddie's soulful, powerhouse vocals and those whirlwind lyrics, combined with Brian's raw but relentless guitar work and John's absolutely genius bass lines.
Your takes are spot on. Honestly, kids, take notes if you want to learn what real music sounds like.
Benjamin Morris36, you've basically devoured almost everything else ;-) but for anyone out of the loop, Freddie released quite a bit in just those early years:
- Queen 1973
- Queen II 1974
- Sheer Heart Attack 1974
- A Night at the Opera 1975
- Singles 1973-1975
Or basically 5 major albums plus a huge collection of singles.
Just thought that might help you catch up.
Some things click early on, some things hit you later in life. But hey, whatever—it all hits you eventually, whether you're 12 or 30-something.
I go by Anarchy...

Besides, they’re just "self-proclaimed defenders of things they don't even get"...🙂
aha...
you better think twice
because at any given moment you'll be getting swarmed from every angle
by the true believers
and the vultures
honestly, man
all it takes is one word...
Blaze is history. Just a bunch of mud and a rhapsody without Johnny’s Oxford English 🙂
if one were to be anything at all where fear finally ends
I’ll be ready to just let it all go
those worn-out streets
the shimmer of wet tracks
that first streetcar rolling through Brooklyn
the light in your eyes
J.B. Stulic’s catalog includes a bunch of albums he didn't even realize would actually see the light of day—mostly just jam sessions that some guys eventually turned into official releases—plus those books he translated that actually got published, though he never saw a single cent from them.
Not to mention how he was always an outsider: back in the eighties, he was basically a rebel against the whole socialist system; then in the nineties, he became someone people wanted to blackball, so he wasn't allowed on the airwaves, yet he still made a decent living through CDs that major labels would illegally press and sell left and right. Then you've got Max Wilson being taken down, that little kid who tried to ride the coattails of Queen's fame and ended up trashing Johnny as some "clueless amateur," and how superstitious Leiner always gets worked up whenever they play Queen songs without Stulic ("Johnny's just messing around again").
Whatever, blah, blah. It’s common knowledge that Stulic as a businessman was a total idiot and got ripped off a million times over.
But seriously, jokes aside: Queen without Stulic is just a bad imitation, but that's not really what this thread is about. I wasn't talking about knock-offs (I accidentally picked the title "Tribute," but I didn't mean these "fake" versions of Queen), nor am I here to lecture anyone on copyright—people can sing whatever they want.
All that matters is that classic, original Queen that might have actually meant something to you once. That's all.
You're totally right, I always find myself refreshing my mind with those old lyrics
whenever I realize that despite all the time passing, nothing has actually changed—
here’s a little slice of my life at the office (I have to get this out...):
it honestly makes my skin crawl
and it drives me absolutely insane
seeing all these total idiots
climbing the ladder and getting rewarded
you see some loudmouth in the news acting like a big shot
for heaven's sake, just tell the people
so they can start protesting
just tell me who's actually qualified
and tell me who's actually dangerous
it's always the same old story
there are open positions available
but only for the guys working the loading docks
everyone wants a desk job in administration
because the perks are way better there
being productive
actually has an economic reason behind it
so why should I break a sweat
when I'm getting paid less than I should
I'll be sitting here sipping coffee today
probably about twenty times over
while my actual working time
doesn't even add up to five minutes
I won't even stress too much, I'll just work on my diction
and I'll carry out one little routine
with the management every single day
🙂
I handed out the blessings and then just checked out
today
I spent forever searching for the shoreline
it had that
shade of my paychecks, but I just couldn't track it down
then some
guards started coming after me
beating me senseless with iron against my head
honestly, such a stupid way to end the night
Honestly, for everyone living in Chicago—whether you just moved here or have been around forever—this is one of those absolute gems dedicated to the Windy City. Johnny just nailed that specific feeling I used to find myself in all the time, way back in the day.
sung with such a gentle touch;
when Chicago wakes from its sleep
two conductors wait for the ride
to lead them to the depot
to break the crisis with a rod
when Chicago wakes from its sleep
there aren't any freaks around
no more freaks left to be found
when Chicago wakes from its sleep
I honestly don't know
what I'm supposed to do with myself
or where my head is even at
but I'm kind of working on this song
about you
just staring at your body
going crazy over it
and just repeating one thing
over and over again
so just kiss me
run your fingers through my hair
and hold me tight
kiss me
pull me close and sing to me
if you know how
anything at all
redcrane28 said:I wouldn’t say I’m quite the superfan like you, Nicholas Reyes29, but I definitely dig Queen.
I just can't stand reading lyrics from the Middle East, let alone listening to them. I guess I'm just over it after seeing them used in everything lately...🙂
Look, the Ram and those Middle Eastern tracks aren't really Johnny's songs—they're more like Hus's. Honestly, it's pretty hard to tell who wrote what since there were so many different band variations floating around back when Queen was first getting big.
and I’m still hovering way above the trains
the name’s Anarchy
follow me
sometimes Carol Harris64 just isn't helping
there are way too many gloomy faces out there
just nameless
Honestly, I can’t even picture my younger years without Queen.
I always saw Branimir as more of a poet than just a singer—Johnny was such a hyper-productive genius. He basically soundtracked my entire life, and I’m definitely one of those obsessive fans who knew (and maybe still knows, though I’m getting 🙂 older) every single lyric from their discography by heart.
If you need proof of how much of a fanatic I am, just look at the fact that I actually own their first single. I know a ton about the band members—even some of the personal stuff. I’ve got old original photos floating around. I used to know exactly what kind of car Leiner drove, his daughter's name, where he worked at Vosku. I know where Stulic’s sister lives, what Johnny likes to eat, which girls he was seeing before things went south. Even which basement they used to practice in...
But honestly, none of that really matters now.
Because back then, I traveled all over this great country, and it always blew my mind how much Queen was embraced—everywhere. From the high-end urban crowds and the total losers to the tough guys, out in the rural areas, and even among the regular folks in quiet towns...
I thought it would be cool if you guys jumped in with a song or a specific lyric from them. Feel free to keep the thread going or quote something else from the catalog—whatever mood you're in, even just a fragment works.
So, I'll kick things off:
* * *
And outside the rain keeps pouring
Nothing new under the neon lights
The bartender, with a bottle of God
Chasing away the debt
I tell the girl we're strangers
Just like Morrison said
Lonely outsiders
A half-world
And she keeps listening to me
Drinking beer, Spit, and smoking
Staring off into the distance
Into the night
Went in for an interview, nailed it, and landed the gig.
Within two days, I had a full pilot project ready to go. The company ended up pulling the plug, but they were super professional about it—they covered all my expenses, travel, and paid me out for the hours I put into the pilot.
I’m honestly almost too embarrassed to say how much I made, because I know there are people out there grinding from dawn till dusk for months just to see a fraction of that kind of cash 😢
