Mandatory pension funds: What are your thoughts? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Since I’m leaving my private sector job and will be unemployed for a bit, I'm wondering what happens with my mandatory retirement fund. Will I get some kind of notice saying I'm no longer part of their plan since I won't be employed? I was only there for about seven months total, so I haven't even received a statement yet. Or will the next statement show my balance and mention I'm no longer employed so they stop sending contributions?

What does a contribution statement actually look like? Is it basically the same thing as the one that hits my inbox?

At Chase, all accounts except checking are linked to a Visa Electron; checking uses a Maestro card.
If the account number starts with 32, it's checking; 31 means savings; 87 or 90 indicates a specialized savings account.🙂

EDIT: That last part only applies to Chase.

Thanks, I was actually wondering how to tell which account is which! Mine starts with 87, so I guess it's a savings account. Can people still deposit money into it?

I assume it's a checking account, but I'm a little confused because Chase shows several options—like a debit card linked account, a standard checking account, and a savings account—so I'm not totally sure which one we're talking about. I have a foreign currency account with a linked USD account, and I can't tell if someone can actually deposit money into it or not. I know you can't deposit directly into a foreign currency account. Maybe I'll just ask someone to try a transfer and see what happens!

Thanks! :-)

Hey there!

Quick question... I have a USD account open at Chase, and I was wondering if someone here in the States can transfer money directly into it, or do they need power of attorney like they do for foreign currency accounts? Thanks!!! :-)
