Dealing with the teenage years is a nightmare in Students & Teens ·
Gregory Wells6 said:Personally, I’m convinced there is an issue here. Her father, though—he’s adamant that everything is fine. Even her psychiatrist won't give a definitive answer yet; apparently, you can't truly confirm a disorder until someone hits twenty-five.
I can see with my own eyes that this situation is spiraling out of control, but I feel completely powerless—every time I try to step in or take action, she just runs straight back to her father and shuts me out. 😕

A psychiatrist... I honestly cannot believe this 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲

A lot of what you wrote is partially right, so why don't you just photocopy it and read it again when you actually become a parent? I'm curious to see if you'll actually follow your own advice. I'm not criticizing you, it's just that everyone sees things differently, right?

Oh, sure, "everyone sees things through their own lens"... 🙂

There is just far too much misunderstanding happening here... I mean, surely you all remember what it was like being their age? How you felt? The only difference is that today’s American teenagers actually have the guts to express how confused they are. Maybe they’re wrong sometimes, sure, but punishing them isn't going to solve anything. I see so many posts claiming "they used to be such an angel, now they're a monster" or some other dramatic nonsense. We are trying to develop independence and show it! We aren't fragile little porcelain dolls! If you are truly embarrassed by your children or if their behavior genuinely bothers you, then speak up and tell them. With my kids, for example, the thought of punishing me never even crossed their minds, and I turned out just fine. And that girl who got punished because she failed a grade... you honestly think that punishment made her perform better? No. She improved because she finally understood. She would have realized it even if you had just let her be; if you weren't so bothered by her repeating a grade once, you wouldn't be so obsessed with it now.
And don't even get me started on the constant nagging about chores or cleaning their rooms. Excuse me, but is it *your* room? Do *you* sleep in it? Just leave the kid alone! They have a right to their creative mess; if they are doing okay, then you should be okay with it too. Honestly, half of you have no idea what is actually best for your child. I, however, think I know what is best for myself... so go ahead, move forward. Come at me 😂

I am absolutely floored by everything I’ve just read... though, frankly, it isn't your descriptions of your children that have me reeling, it's you...

She saw a gynecologist a couple of times because her bleeding was lasting an unnaturally long time, and he prescribed her Yasmin. Well, she stopped taking them, and just a few weeks later, my friend passed away from a pulmonary embolism triggered by Yasmin. Now, she hasn't had a period in... I think it's been about 4 months. Both she and I feel strongly that she needs to see a doctor, but her mother is refusing to let her go because she’s terrified they'll just prescribe more Yasmina—which we are adamantly boycotting. Given everything that’s been reported regarding blood clots and all that horror, we also found out that because of high cholesterol, her blood is already prone to clotting... so now... I honestly don't know what to tell her or how to help. During her first exam, the doctor even suggested she might have trouble having children in the future... and I just don't understand how I can convince her to tell her mom that she HAS to go. Are there any other types of pills that could actually help or something else entirely? Thanks for any advice...

Are we really just going to sit here with no comment?

My friend is dealing with thyroid issues and irregular periods, and things have taken a truly terrifying turn. She saw a gynecologist a few times because her bleeding was lasting way too long, and he prescribed her Yasmin. Well, she stopped taking them, and just a few weeks later, my friend passed away from a pulmonary embolism caused by Yasmin. Now, she hasn't had a period in... what, four months? I think. Both she and I feel strongly that she needs to see a gynecologist immediately, but her mother is digging her heels in; she refuses to let her go because she’s convinced they’ll just push Yasmin on her again—something we are both vehemently boycotting. On top of all the horror stories regarding blood clots and everything else, we found out that because of high cholesterol, her blood is already starting to thicken... so now... I am honestly at a loss. What am I even supposed to say to her? How can I help? When she had that first exam, the doctor even suggested she might struggle to have children... and I just don't understand how I can convince her to tell her mom that she MUST go. Are there any other types of birth control out there that actually work without these risks? Please, I need advice...
