Dealing with an emotional manipulator in Psychology ·
one more thing😛too many people are getting mixed up in our relationship, and I’m pretty sure they can be easily talked into believing—if they haven't already—that I’m some kind of mess, just so they'll run for the hills like everyone else does. even though it's basically over, he still holds so much sway and control over my life because of all those messy ties that bind us together. I have support from my inner circle, but honestly, none of that is going to mean a damn thing when I finally have to face him eye to eye. the mere thought of that confrontation actually terrifies me.

This thread hasn't been active in a while, but I seriously need some help here. I just got out of this relationship—he dumped me—and the second we called it quits, everything clicked. I started seeing him for what he actually is: a total emotional manipulator. It was always my fault. Every single argument, every fight... it was somehow my bad. I won't even get into the details, but honestly, if you look at any of the posts on this forum or even other sites about guys like him, it’s a perfect description of his behavior. He even managed to gaslight me into thinking the breakup was my fault. Now, I'm slowly trying to pick up the pieces and heal the damage he did to me. Looking back, I see how every situation was carefully planned and executed. He played his part perfectly, and I was just the one left getting played. I feel manipulated, humiliated, and like I've lost all my dignity. My self-esteem is even shakier than it was before we met. Since we split, I've finally stopped questioning my own sanity. I realized I'm completely normal. Those "moody" moments he used to nitpick were just normal reactions, and I don't need a therapist to "fix" me—even though he tried to push that idea on me indirectly more times than I can count. My question is 🙏what should I do now? I feel terrible, but also weirdly better because I'm finally seeing the truth about who I was sharing my life with. I'm terrified that he might try to come back. How do I resist him? He's going to be relentless. My current strength feels fragile, and I know it'll crumble if he starts playing the victim, acting pathetic, or if that fails, if he turns to blackmail and insults. I am genuinely scared for myself. I need to recover, and he could easily destroy my progress and pull me right back into his world. I'm scared. How? Where do I even start? How do I force myself to fully accept the reality of what happened? Please, I'm begging you. I feel lost, like he made me believe I can't function in life without him. 😢
