Does loyalty even exist in pro sports anymore?
in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I was watching some old highlights last night and it really got me thinking about how much the "loyalty" narrative has changed. It used to feel like players stayed with one city, built a legacy, and basically grew old with the fans. Now, it feels like every single offseason is just a massive game of musical chairs.
It’s hard to blame them, honestly. These athletes are professionals and they have a very narrow window to make their mark and secure their future. If a team isn't building a roster that aligns with their specific timeline, why would they stick around just for the sake of nostalgia? It's business, plain and simple. But as a fan, it still leaves a bit of a bitter taste when you realize the connection you thought was there was actually just a temporary contract.
Do you think the "one-club man" is a dead concept, or is it just much harder to achieve in the modern era?
