Anesthesia, Resuscitation, and ICU: Q&A
in Health ·
urbanscout50, thanks for getting back to me.
The situation makes much more sense now—it sounds like my body was just processing the anesthesia way faster than the anesthesiologist anticipated. Basically, I slipped from deep sleep into a semi-conscious state far too quickly, and because they had me paralyzed with muscle relaxants, I couldn't move an inch to signal that I wasn't actually out. That’s why the doctor didn't realize I was drifting back toward consciousness.
I knew exactly who I was and where I was, but obviously, I couldn't say a word or even twitch—plus, there was that terrifying struggle of not being able to take a breath on my own.
Anyway, it was a deeply unsettling experience—one that I bet leaves most people who go through it (in whatever form it takes) absolutely terrified of it happening again.
Thanks again for the info, and honestly, I really hope I never have to deal with an anesthesiologist ever again. 😉
