I would choose pain. In a situation like having crushed legs where you can't feel them, while someone holds a gun to your head, wouldn't most people give anything just to live a little longer? 🙂

If an illustration is required, consider this: imagine you love calamari. You eat too much of it and fall ill. You spend the entire night getting sick. Afterward, you can't even look at it. Does the mere thought of it not make you feel unwell?

Yes, why not? Eating and using the restroom are daily necessities. In fact, we even have that old American saying, "Don't talk with your mouth full," which highlights how much those two activities are seen as opposites. (Or at least, that is how they are perceived in our culture, to be perfectly precise)

It is irrational to believe that logic dictates most of our choices. This is especially true when we deal with matters where past experiences have already stirred our emotions. 🙂
