If you had to make the call, what would you choose: enduring constant, debilitating pain and suffering—say, being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of your life—or simply facing death?

it really depends on what kind of pain we're talking about...
but honestly, it feels less like a quick end and more like a lifetime of just... suffering.

And what’s wrong with death?! Not if you actually believe there's something waiting for us on the other side, right?

And if you don't?

Look, being in a wheelchair doesn't have to mean you're in constant, agonizing pain. It's all about your mindset! As long as I can still think clearly and get things done (which you definitely can in a chair!), then yeah, I'm in. Even if there's some heavy physical therapy involved or some rough days... honestly, I'd fight tooth and nail to keep living and find my purpose. But if we're talking about being kept alive on life support, basically just existing like a vegetable? Yeah, please, just let me go.

Death, obviously.👋 😉

I'm afraid of the pain. Not death...

As long as I can still think, stay functional—which is definitely possible even from a chair—and as long as there’s a glimmer of hope for recovery or rehab, even if it means pushing through intense physical discomfort... yeah, I’d fight tooth and nail to keep living. I’d find my own reason to keep going. But if we're talking about being kept alive by machines, just vegetating like some kind of shell? Then honestly, I’d want them to just pull the plug...

Physical agony isn't the only thing that hurts. Sometimes the psychological toll is actually much worse than anything you feel in your body. In fact, I suspect people are more likely to take their own lives because of mental anguish than because of physical suffering.

The pain is what actually scares me.
A beautiful view stretching out forever doesn't just fix everything. 😬

Fear is another thing. It’s like when someone finds out they have a terminal illness—that period of terror is probably unbearable until you finally learn to accept it.

I would choose pain. In a situation like having crushed legs where you can't feel them, while someone holds a gun to your head, wouldn't most people give anything just to live a little longer? 🙂

(Wait, did you mean to quote me? It feels like an invitation to chat, though I'm a little lost since we're basically saying the exact same thing!)

No, no... that was more of an invitation for coffee.. 😬

If that's how it goes down, it’s gonna be "intensely painful"

I’m terrified of death. Not even my own death, really—it's more about the idea of someone close to me passing away. As for myself? Honestly, I’d take an early exit over dealing with actual pain and suffering any day (plus, I have this theory that we just reincarnate anyway, so whatever...). But I haven't actually been tested by a situation like that yet, so maybe I'd change my mind if someone were actually trying to kill me...

I don’t fear the dark, and I don't fear spiders—so why should death or pain be any different?

And pain? What if someone is just a masochist? Someone might actually find pleasure in choosing the pain themselves. 😁

So, do you have a thing for snakes then? 😛

Look, they’re just animals—wild creatures that can deliver a lethal bite. Half the time, we actually provoke them just by acting terrified, which triggers an attack. I once saw a professional alligator wrestler handle them easily; if you actually understand what you're up against, there's no reason to be afraid.

As for the fear of death? Personally, I figure being dead feels exactly like how it felt before you were even conceived—total nothingness. Why waste energy worrying about it? It's an inevitability for everyone. We might as well enjoy whatever life throws our way instead of living in fear. Besides, I won't be around to care when it happens, because I won't be there to experience it.
