But you see, people react to sports in all sorts of different ways. You can actually tell who shows up to the games because they truly love the sport, and who just turns up to vent their own aggression... Ever since this World Cup started, I haven't missed a single match, even though our team only played once. So, personally, I follow the tournament simply because it’s interesting to me.
As for our national team, however, the excitement is much more intense because we are the ones playing—because we represent America.
I’ve been looking at her situation... At her university, she used to spend entire days on campus, plus another hour and a half or two commuting back home. She managed to graduate right on schedule. It would be truly tragic if she couldn't achieve that simply because she lacks access to textbooks.
As for the university library, perhaps having one that is properly organized could serve as a viable solution...
So, I have a friend... she’s one of those high-achievers, constantly grinding, always motivated. But even with all that drive, she didn't manage to land a job until halfway through her junior year at some big state university. Me? I'm a born slacker... though, admittedly, a happy one. So, why on earth should she be stuck with worse conditions than I am? If they're going to ban students from using specific excerpts from a textbook that are actually necessary for the coursework, then the university should probably provide the study guides themselves. We shouldn't forget that the whole point is supposed to be encouraging education in the first place...
I see some people are still trying to equate hitting the gym with hitting the books. Good for you, I guess. But why on earth do you assume only the privileged are allowed to get an education? As for scholarships; a friend of mine snagged one, yet she still had to rely on cheap photocopies for her textbooks. And regarding employment; isn't one of the core issues in this country the fact that even those with college degrees aren't immune to unemployment? Perhaps one of you could just hire every single student so they can actually afford their supplies. Or maybe the wealthy are just terrified of losing their spots...
It’s all fine, I suppose. Intellectual property... I consider it just as valuable, actually, far more precious than mere physical assets. But the framework needs restructuring. Perhaps we should allow students to make copies of textbooks. Look, a college textbook might cost $167 (there are cheaper ones, certainly, but also much pricier options). Required reading. The real issue remains... how many American students can actually afford to purchase every single original text?
Yes, crying serves as an excellent pressure valve... it allows those negative emotions to be purged from the system. It’s far superior to my own tendency toward internal simmering and agitation.
The only issue is that it isn't quite as socially acceptable; people seem much more willing to overlook someone shouting profanities in public than they are someone breaking down in tears.
