Honestly, I think pushing too hard internally is the biggest issue—mostly because the lithotomy position is just totally unnatural—but even here in the States, we aren't making much progress on that front. And really, would doing squats actually prevent tearing, or would you just have the "luck" of tearing everything up inside anyway? I don't know... there are all sorts of stories out there, from grandmothers trying their absolute best to manually dilate things only for the patient to end up needing stitches regardless.
I guess it probably depends on which doctor you end up with, but personally, I’m not too worried about it—if they need to stitch, they can stitch.
My only real wish is that they’d help with different birthing positions instead of just rushing to get you out of the way as quickly as possible... if they could just be a little more humane about it rather than treating the whole thing like a damn butcher shop.
Hey, Dana Cooper6... I know exactly how you’re feeling right now, and if I can offer even a little bit of comfort, I will. My first time, my period was about ten days late—and when I finally took a test, it came back positive. To be honest, I wasn't exactly planning a pregnancy either, much like you, so it caught me off guard—but we realized pretty quickly that we actually wanted this, and we were just so happy... Unfortunately, about twelve or thirteen days after my period was due, I started spotting. I completely panicked and rushed straight to my doctor's office. He did an ultrasound and told me there was no pregnancy; he said modern tests are just incredibly sensitive these days, which is why they pick up early pregnancies so easily... He also mentioned that delays of ten days or more are often just that—the very beginning of a pregnancy—but maybe the body realizes something isn't quite right and just rejects it... I was a total wreck, honestly, and I felt so heartbroken that we decided to just keep trying. What can I say? The very next month, it worked for us, and here I am at twenty weeks... So please, don't let this get you down...
