Of course, because life is just perfect like that... everything was working fine last night, then I get home from work today and—bam—the right earbud is dead. Total silence. I’ve tried every little trick in the book short of taking them apart, but nothing works. They're my old SteelSeries Arctis Nova, bought about three years ago, probably out of warranty by now. I picked them up at Best Buy. I might dig through my junk drawer to find the box, but let's be real, they're probably toast. Maybe I'll crack them open to see if there's any hope, but honestly? It feels like time to just bite the bullet and get something new.
I always thought SteelSeries made the best gear, but looking around, it seems like their newer stuff isn't even hitting the shelves here anymore; most of what I see are the same models I grabbed back when I first started using them three years ago. What's actually worth the money right now, maybe around $167? Give me some ideas. And yeah, obviously they need a mic and a volume wheel on the side 🙂
I’m looking for something actually decent. Originally, I was thinking maybe a budget of around $800 to $1,000, but now I see all these spring sales popping up at Walmart, plus I’ve got this 20% off promo code for Saint Dominic. So, honestly, I might stretch past that $1,000 mark if the deal is right. But hey, if there’s some absolute steal in that $800–$1,000 range—especially with that discount—why wouldn't I 🙂
?
It’s not like I’m going to be glued to this laptop every single day. Most of the time it’ll just be sitting there on the weekends while I catch up on streams, watch movies, listen to music, or maybe play some light games here and there. Nothing heavy.

Multimedia keys—either dedicated or combined with the F keys. Extra macro keys would be awesome, but I guess it's not a dealbreaker.
I’ve seriously never owned a mechanical keyboard in my entire life, so I have zero clue what actually works best for gaming or just general use. All I know is there are tons of different switches that vary in sound, feel, travel distance, and all that jazz...
I did a little digging online and right now the BlackWidow and the NZXT H series are looking like my top picks.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention—it absolutely HAS to have a wrist rest. Doesn't matter if it's detachable or built-in, just needs to be there.
Nobody’s said a word, and Christmas is practically here, so we'll see. Everything stays the same as before, except I bumped my budget up to $200, though even then... I don't feel like I'm getting much bang for my buck.
My favorites haven't changed, so: the NZXT H series, the Redragon, and the JBL Flip.
Really hoping someone actually chimes in and helps me out with this purchase, because I posted this on two other forums and got absolutely nothing. Zero. Zilch.
Looking for a mechanical keyboard, maybe around $167 bucks, but I’m still weighing my options. The more RGB colors and lighting effects, the better—I want all the bells and whistles. Needs to be a full-size layout with a num pad too. Multimedia keys are a must, whether they’re dedicated or just mapped to the F-row. Extra macro keys would be awesome, though I guess that's not a dealbreaker.
Honestly? I’ve never actually owned a mechanical keyboard in my life, so I’m kind of flying blind here. What’s actually "best" for gaming versus just everyday typing? I know there are all these different switches that change the sound, the feel, the travel distance... it's a lot to wrap my head around.
I’ve been doing some digging online, and right now the BlackWidow and the NZXT H series are pretty much at the top of my list.
EDIT: Oh, almost forgot! It absolutely has to come with a wrist rest. Doesn't matter if it's built-in or detachable, I just need that support.
Not trying to start a whole new thread here, just throwing this out there 🙂
I’d say a mouse up to about $133, though honestly, I wouldn't drop more than $117 on one.
My top picks are the Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury—mostly because I used to have the Logitech G400 and I’m currently rocking the Logitech G400s
Another one on my radar is the MODEC Volcano GMX4. I see people all over this forum raving about it, plus I saw that PC Mag named it a Best Buy.
So, besides my two favorites, is there anything else actually decent for under 400, or maybe even $117?
I'm looking mainly for gaming gear, and I only shop at local US retailers!
So, I did a little digging, and here’s my shortlist:
Microsoft Windows XP
Genius K20
Speedlink Parthica
Genius K9
Which one should I actually grab? Or better yet, does anyone know of a keyboard out there that’s actually a hundred times better than this whole bunch of junk? Thanks in advance!
I didn't actually go out looking to buy a new monitor because my old one was still limping along, somehow. But then today? Nothing. Just dead air for a few hours. So, yeah, we finally decided it’s time to pull the trigger and get something new. I need something primarily for gaming, and I'm looking to spend roughly around $333. From what I've been digging around online, people seem to be saying this BenQ GW2760 is a total steal at about $333:
What's the verdict? Is this a solid move, or am I missing out on something much better? Should I just grab this one and call it a day?
Chris Robinson25 said:If I had that kind of cash sitting around for a monitor, I’d definitely scrape together the extra hundred bucks to grab the Dell U2414H. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it.
Right now, I'm rocking an Acer V226HQLApanel which is VA (specifically AMVA), and honestly, I haven't noticed any huge issues. If I had to nitpick, the whites get a little too bright sometimes—it strains my eyes a bit. I have a feeling an IPS would fix that. Then again, I just saw someone on a forum trashing IPS panels, claiming they were total garbage. 😁
But look—honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. All three monitors are solid picks.
My main thing is just making sure it holds up while I'm gaming. I don't want any issues, and I need something that lasts. I want it to stay alive for at least five years, maybe even eight like this old one has. 😁
Chris Robinson25 said:Look, even IPS panels have their downsides. 😉
I've been digging through various forums online, and honestly, it's just a mess of conflicting advice. One guy tells me TN is the king if you actually want to game, then someone else swears by IPS for graphic designers or anyone doing creative work, and apparently, VA is supposedly the go-to for people who spend all day reading or typing. I don't know, man, my head is spinning. 😁 Between those two options you laid out, which one is actually going to give me less grief? Which one is built to handle long hours of heavy lifting without dying on me?
Chris Robinson25 said:If you're looking to spend around $150, I'd weigh the Dell P2414H against the BenQ GW2760. Now, if you can stretch your budget up to about $210, you can snag the Dell U2414H, which is definitely a step up from those first two. Also, just a heads-up: some ASUS models come with a 5-year warranty, if that kind of thing matters to you.
I was thinking the exact same two monitors right away. But then, wouldn't someone else jump in later and tell me I should've gone with an IPS panel instead? Apparently, VA panels suffer from ghosting when things get high-contrast, which is just one of those annoying little things that bugs you until you finally get used to it.
How grainy does a 27" screen look? I really don't want to end up with something where the pixels are jumping out at me.
Man, this monitor has been my faithful companion for 8 years now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236040
But lately? It’s acting weird. It takes forever to actually show an image after I boot everything up. I flip the switch on the PC and the monitor, and then the power light just starts blinking incessantly. And get this—you can actually hear this weird sound, like air escaping or some kind of high-pitched whistling, but only while that light is blinking. Once it finally hits operating temperature, it settles down and works fine without the noise. I’d really rather prevent a total meltdown than try to fix it once it's dead, you know?
The rig is mostly mine for gaming, though the rest of the family jumps on it occasionally to browse the web. I’m looking for something decent for around $500 or less—if it’s more than that, I might be able to stretch to $667. Honestly, I’m dying to finally make the jump to 1080p; I've been stuck on 1050 for way too long.
Here’s what’s under the hood of my current setup:
CPU: AMD X4 860K 3.7 GHz
MBO: ASUS A58M-K
VGA: AMD R7250-1GD5
RAM: 8gb DDR3
I haven't a clue how the market looks right now or who's actually dominating the budget tier, but I really want something that'll last me as long as this ASUS did—or at least give me five good years.
