Best monitor under $250?

But lately? It’s acting weird. It takes forever to actually show an image after I boot everything up. I flip the switch on the PC and the monitor, and then the power light just starts blinking incessantly. And get this—you can actually hear this weird sound, like air escaping or some kind of high-pitched whistling, but only while that light is blinking. Once it finally hits operating temperature, it settles down and works fine without the noise. I’d really rather prevent a total meltdown than try to fix it once it's dead, you know?

The rig is mostly mine for gaming, though the rest of the family jumps on it occasionally to browse the web. I’m looking for something decent for around $500 or less—if it’s more than that, I might be able to stretch to $667. Honestly, I’m dying to finally make the jump to 1080p; I've been stuck on 1050 for way too long.

MBO: ASUS A58M-K
VGA: AMD R7250-1GD5
RAM: 8gb DDR3

I haven't a clue how the market looks right now or who's actually dominating the budget tier, but I really want something that'll last me as long as this ASUS did—or at least give me five good years.

Now, if you can stretch your budget up to about $210, you can snag the Dell U2414H, which is definitely a step up from those first two. I was thinking the exact same two monitors right away. But then, wouldn't someone else jump in later and tell me I should've gone with an IPS panel instead? Apparently, VA panels suffer from ghosting when things get high-contrast, which is just one of those annoying little things that bugs you until you finally get used to it.

How grainy does a 27" screen look? I really don't want to end up with something where the pixels are jumping out at me.

Right now, I'm rocking an Acer V226HQLApanel which is VA (specifically AMVA), and honestly, I haven't noticed any huge issues. If I had to nitpick, the whites get a little too bright sometimes—it strains my eyes a bit. I have a feeling an IPS would fix that. Then again, I just saw someone on a forum trashing IPS panels, claiming they were total garbage. 😁

But look—honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. All three monitors are solid picks.

My main thing is just making sure it holds up while I'm gaming. I don't want any issues, and I need something that lasts. I want it to stay alive for at least five years, maybe even eight like this old one has. 😁
