It’s just one thing after another today!!! 🙂🙂 Between the nausea from the pills and this gastritis, I honestly can't tell which symptom belongs to what anymore... It's unreal. Still, I suspect it’s just my body adjusting to the AD. From about 5 or 6 in the evening until around noon the next day, I’m completely wiped out, then I get a few hours of peace before it all starts over again... I just hope all of this ends up being worth it, because I feel like I'm losing my mind...

Scott Alvarez22 said:Look, if you can, try to scale back on the Xanax. It gives you that initial little lift, but once it wears off about an hour or two later, you get hit with this mini-withdrawal—drowsiness, nausea, all that good stuff—which just leaves you feeling more on edge, so you end up taking another dose, and then you're stuck in this endless loop.

That crash after the Xanax stops working usually hits within two hours of the dose wearing off, so you really just have to grit your teeth and wait for it to pass.

I don't know exactly how much you're taking, but try to keep it to a minimum; eventually, the AD should start doing its job and level things out.

Honestly, don't worry too much. I'm one of those people who can stick it out as long as I need to. I never take more than two a day.

I really appreciate that. Until then, I'll just be getting by on Xanax. 😉

Andrew Doyle said:I dealt with that same intense jitters during the first 10 days while my body was adjusting, though I didn't have the nausea part. Honestly, if I were you, I’d definitely reach out to my doctor right away so they can evaluate the situation and decide how to proceed.

I feel like I should try to push through this, especially since I know others have complained about nausea too, but this constant anxiety is honestly killing me.

Guys, I really need some support right now. Is it normal to be hit this hard by nervousness, anxiety, and nausea? Just to give some context—it’s my seventh day on an AD, specifically Paxil, and yesterday was the first time I took the full tablet. Will this intense, constant anxiety eventually subside, or am I just dealing with a side effect?

Thank you so much, dear. I was actually just reading through your story over in the lounge area, and I can see how much you're struggling right now. Please, just hang in there! Between the medication and the therapy, things have to get better eventually. To be honest, I'm going through a terrible stretch myself lately; I find it hard to even leave the house most days, so I end up staying home almost constantly. I deal with this recurring fear of swallowing food or drinks, and while it isn't happening all the time, I always feel so incredibly tense. I can't bring myself to go anywhere alone without feeling completely overwhelmed by anxiety... I suppose we all have our own battles to fight, but if you combine a little bit of willpower, the right medication, and at least one person to help nudge you forward, there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong and please keep posting. Sending a big hug.

Brandon Lopez6 said:Mine actually cleared out after about 9 months on Paxil, and honestly, 9 months later, they haven't come back. 🙂

The downside is Lexapro absolutely wrecks my sleep. I’ll wake up mid-night feeling totally disconnected from reality... like I'm wide awake but my brain is still stuck in a dream state. 😢
I seriously hate it.

I experienced something very similar, though I can't quite tell if it was triggered by the Lexapro or the Paxil. Basically, I would snap awake in the middle of the night with my eyes wide open, feeling as if I had been jolted by something terrifying. It was such a haunting sensation, though it did eventually subside after a little while.

Anyway, today marks the first day I've taken a full dose of Paxil after six days of micro-dosing. I took it around 2:00 PM, and so far, I feel alright—no nausea yet. We'll see how things go, though; it's going to be a long night...

Gerald Torres2 said:Well, it's definitely a win if the nausea is letting up, though I do worry it might come back in full force once you transition to the full dosage. Doubling the dose is no small jump. Just take it slow and everything will turn out fine; the main thing is don't try to play doctor and do anything on your own. Make sure you clear everything with your psychiatrist first so you're both on the same page. Those first two weeks are usually the absolute worst. My anxiety was totally unbearable at first, so I had to rely on anti-anxiety meds until the antidepressant actually kicked in, and then they gradually tapered me off those. I just really hope you've found the right medication, because some people spend years searching for the one that actually works for them. Hang in there and keep us posted on how you're doing!🙂

Oh, tell me about it—I feel like I'm constantly on edge, just a nervous wreck, feeling like a panic attack could strike at any given moment. And when it actually hits, I end up taking Xanax just to get a little relief, but even then, it’s far from being enough. I'm holding onto the hope that Paxil will help; I took it about six years ago and it truly brought me back to life. As for the nausea, I guess I'll see; maybe I'll move up to the full dose tomorrow, or perhaps I'll stick to half doses for another day or two and just see how my body reacts. I'll definitely check back in, and I hope you'll do the same. Wishing everyone here nothing but much better days ahead very soon.

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time lately reflecting on the subtle shifts in my mental landscape, trying to find some sense of equilibrium amidst all the noise. It’s a process that feels both incredibly slow and unexpectedly intense at times. I was reading through some of the recent discussions here, and I found myself nodding along to what Mark Nelson mentioned regarding the difficulty of finding a consistent routine when you're feeling particularly low. There is such a profound exhaustion that comes with simply trying to maintain a baseline of normalcy, isn't there? I also wanted to touch upon what Justin Rogers5 was saying earlier about the way certain medications seem to settle in after a few weeks. It’s rarely a sudden epiphany; rather, it's more like a gradual clearing of the fog, though even then, one must remain cautious and observant of how their body responds. I’m currently navigating those middle stages where things aren't necessarily "bad," but they certainly don't feel entirely "right" yet either. It requires a certain level of patience—an earnest, almost stubborn persistence—to keep moving forward when the progress feels so incremental. I truly believe that being mindful of these small, quiet changes is just as important as tracking the major fluctuations. kaže:
Did she happen to mention whether you should be taking it in the morning or at night? I'm curious if that was part of your conversation. Personally, I didn't experience any of that nausea because I made sure to take mine in the evening; on the flip side, when I took it in the morning, I’d wake up feeling incredibly rested, yet almost hyperactive. 😕

The nausea was a bit more manageable today, thankfully. However, if things take a turn for the worse again—especially once I transition to the full dosage—I think I’ll start taking my medication right before bed. From what I've gathered, Seroxat doesn't really interfere with my sleep patterns regardless of when I take it, so I can drift off quite easily. Taking it at night seems like it would be a much smoother way to handle the side effects.

So, I just got off the phone with my therapist, and she suggested that I stick to taking half my Paxil doses for as long as the nausea persists. We decided to phase out the Prozac at night since sleep hasn't been an issue for me lately. Honestly, I am just counting down the days until this adjustment period is over; right now, it feels like my anxiety is actually peaking rather than settling down. It’s almost as if things have gotten worse, though she reassured me that feeling this way during the initial transition is perfectly normal. I'm only on day six, so I suppose I just have to hang in there.

Susan Edwards8 said:I was knocking back half a bottle—maybe five days straight—and honestly? I felt like absolute garbage. Just constant nausea, especially after finishing the whole thing, but hey, that’s just one of those side effects that eventually wears off... I used to take mine first thing in the morning right when I rolled out of bed.🤷

I am well aware that this is a common side effect. Honestly, I can certainly endure that part of the process, provided that the end result proves to be worth the effort.

Gerald Torres2 said:Don't sweat it! 🙂
Yeah, it’s a different story once you factor in other medications. Good luck with the adjustment period!!

Thank you so much; I just really hope this medication turns out to be the right fit for me... Wishing you the best as well! 🙂

Gerald Torres2 said:Maybe try doing half doses for ten days and switch to taking it in the evening... one time, it actually spiked my therapy sessions, so I ended up taking the full dose at night and then another half in the morning. That was 30mg total, but honestly, that specific antidepressant just didn't sit right with me, even though everyone swears it's one of the best on the market.

I'm honestly not sure if I should, given that I'm still taking half a pill of Lexapro in the evening. I think I'll give my doctor a call tomorrow to ask for their professional opinion first. In any case, thank you so much for sharing such helpful advice. 😍

Gerald Torres2 said:I forgot to mention—maybe they told you it has to be in the morning to avoid messing with your sleep schedule. For me, Paxil was actually quite stimulating, so I preferred taking it right before bed. Once I swallowed the pill, I’d just roll over and go straight to sleep.

Yes, all of that actually makes sense. I honestly have no idea what to expect, so I think I'll stick to taking half doses for a few more days and just see how things progress from there.

Gerald Torres2 said:In my case, I was told to take a half dose at night for seven days, then switch to a full dose the very next night. I only ended up being on it for two months total. Interestingly, I didn't even feel like I was taking anything during those first two weeks; I just felt jittery and hyperactive.

That's interesting to hear. In my case, the instructions were quite specific about taking it in the morning, but I usually end up taking it around 2:00 PM, and by about 5:00 PM, I start feeling pretty nauseous.

Hey everyone, I have a question for those of you who have experience taking Paxil.
How long did you stick to taking just half a tablet before you felt comfortable moving up to a full dose? I’m currently on my fifth day of the half-dose, and the nausea is really getting to me. It isn't unbearable, but it’s enough to make me nervous about stepping up to the full pill—I'm genuinely worried the nausea might become overwhelming if I increase the dosage. Does anyone have any advice or personal experiences they could share?

Scott Alvarez22 said:Honestly, just try to make it work anyway. Take that opened box back to them and explain the situation; maybe they'll let you return it, then you can just use your own cash to pick up a smaller pack at that same pharmacy where they have your prescription on file.

I suppose I could give that a try. 🙂 Thanks for the advice! 😉
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Scott Alvarez22 said:Honestly, you could just head down to the pharmacy where you picked up the 1mg SR and ask them if they can substitute it with two 0.5mg SR doses instead.

The trouble is, I’ve already opened the bottle and taken one tablet. And since this was all handled through my doctor's prescription, I'm feeling a bit stuck.

Melissa Sanchez59 said:It’s like reading my own diary. Just constantly putting off seeing the doctor and wasting months upon months of my life waiting for an episode to "just pass"... until everything finally hits the breaking point.

I'm crossing my fingers that things get better for you really soon! (My hands are shaking a little, but I'm hanging in there 😬)

I really mean it, we are practically twins here! 😉 Thank you so much; I truly wish the same for you—that things stabilize, the side effects settle down, and your medication starts working effectively so your quality of life can finally improve. Please make sure to check back in and let me know how you're doing! Hang in there. 🙂

Melissa Sanchez59 said:I'm not sure why they can't be broken, but I assume there's a solid reason since they're made that way—it's actually kind of hard to snap them compared to those "normal" ones with the little score line down the middle... and honestly, my doctor was super explicit about it, like, she said I can always take two 0.5mg doses if needed, but I definitely shouldn't split a stronger one...

I'm 25, and I've been dealing with stuff this intense for maybe 5 years now, but I finally decided to actually do something about it about six months ago. I'm not counting the time a few years back when I was just taking Ambien because my doctor didn't even think to look for the actual cause of my long-term insomnia. 🙄

This is my second antidepressant. With the first one, I think I fell into the worst depression of my life during those first couple of weeks, but I kept steadying myself with Misar, so I didn't really deal with anxiety then. Now it's kind of the opposite—I'm not in total crisis, but my nerves are constantly on edge like they were before medication. I'm not sure how much of that is from switching meds or just drastically cutting back on the Misar... plus, I've had constant dizziness for 5 days now. And the depersonalization/derealization is just terrifying. Just waiting for 😢

Oh man... I've been fighting this same battle for six years now, heading into my seventh. I had a long stretch where I felt fine, but when things started spiraling again, I waited far too long to see a psychiatrist. All that stress eventually gave me chronic gastritis, which just adds another layer of irritability to everything. Today feels just like yesterday—that nervous tension and a lingering sense of nausea hitting at the exact same time. It makes me think our bodies might just be trying to adjust to these antidepressants. I'm really hoping we can all get back to functioning normally soon. 😍
