I’m having a bit of a nightmare trying to track down the right treats, so I could really use some input here. I’m throwing this casual outdoor get-together soon, and I want to serve these light, airy, fancy little pastries alongside some ice cream—the kind of high-end stuff you’d find at Millennium in downtown Chicago. Every single pastry is basically a work of art, which means they’re a little pricey $4.75 but since it's just 50 people, I think I can swing it. My massive headache? I’m stuck in Indianapolis, so how on earth am I supposed to transport them? They did mention freezing them at -30C, but still... any bright ideas??
Mark Miller13 said:Can someone please explain to me—like I’m five years old here—how I actually get to the wedding expo at Pampas this weekend? So, I get off the train and then... 😁
thanks so much!
Getting to Pampas isn't rocket science. I'll give you two ways depending on whether you feel like walking or not. Either way, just pull up an interactive map of Indianapolis online so you don't get lost.
Option 1—a little walk + the light rail—you hop off the train and head straight down Radić Street until you hit the intersection with European Avenue. There's a station right there. Once you finally catch the light rail heading toward Višnjevac—and maybe sneak on because tickets are a rip-off—get off about 10 stops in (check the display, I think) and take the first left. Walk raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaight straight to Pampas.
Option 2—light rail + light rail (no walking, but you have to transfer)—there’s a station right in front of the station. Ride it for 3 stops, grab the next one heading toward Višnjevac, and ride that for 9 stops.
If anything is confusing, let me know!!
And remember the old saying: Read the map, ask a local 😂!!!
Since my hunt for a live band turned up absolutely nothing☕, at least for right now, I’m pivoting to Plan B. I need some serious input on DJs. Can anyone recommend a killer DJ in the Indianapolis area? And what kind of damage am I looking at price-wise?
Robin Myers said:I’m trying to plan a wedding that doesn't instantly turn my hair gray from pure stress... if I try to go all out and afford everything the majority of you seem to manage—which frankly, is way out of my budget—I’ll be waiting a whole year just to actually tie the knot, and that’s the last thing I want...
On that note, what should my move be? Should I start hunting for a freelance journalist or maybe a photographer, or...
I totally get where you're coming from! Look, I believe price can reflect quality, and I'll always respect someone who does good work, but you really need to vet people and pick a photographer based on actual recommendations. Some of the girls on this forum have absolutely stunning shots 😍 .
The top-tier, ultra-pro photographers want a massive paycheck (like, $10,000 easy). Their photos are gorgeous—honestly, I could stare at them on this forum all day even if they aren't mine 😁—but here’s my take: My boyfriend and I have been together for 10 years. We’ve grown up together and been through hell and back. Why on earth should one single day be treated like the center of the universe, especially if it means taking out a massive loan just to pay for it?! That would be peak American stupidity to me.
I *could* drop more cash, but I won't 😛 . I value creativity more than anything, and it literally makes my skin crawl when I walk through downtown and see those tacky, cookie-cutter, mindless, boring, overpriced photos in shop windows. I want something different. I know I'll find it, because there are plenty of people out there who do photography semi-professionally and shoot weddings on the side.
Thanks to all the ladies who sent me their stories and contacts via DM. I'll definitely be using them!
Thanx Kirshn, I’ll hang onto the number. But seriously, I’m definitely hitting you up once things actually start moving!!👍
Since this thread is finally live, I’m jumping in because I’m dealing with the exact same headache: I can't stand anything I see from the local photographers here in NYC.
So, here's the deal:
1) Does anyone actually know an alternative photographer? Someone who isn't stuck in their ways and could capture something spontaneous or even just weird?
2) How do I hire someone for maybe two hours? I don't need them for an entire night or to film some cheesy DVD. Most of the big studios are already booked up anyway, and honestly, why would I drop a fortune on them just to end up with shots I'll hate?
Look, I usually can't stand wedding bands—I’m always making fun of how bad they sound—but I gotta admit, I was at a wedding two weeks ago and IBM actually killed it. Honestly, as long as they play the stuff you actually like, who cares about anything else? It's the only thing that matters!! I used to have a huge list of numbers for different bands, but I just moved and tossed everything out.😢
Casey Robinson87 said:I swung by a spot out in Bavaria a few days ago, near the Treasury estate (you pass Bilje and Kopachev before heading toward Tikves and Golden Hill). It’s lovely—really quiet and tucked away, with both a covered patio and indoor seating. It is about 15 miles outside the city, though I did see a guy biking in from town that same day. If you don't mind the drive, I think it's a solid choice.
We actually hit up Maple after a 25 miles long bike ride through Bavaria. I got some footage of that Treasury restaurant. Seriously, the nature there is stunning. Such a shame they haven't renovated the manor or the hunting lodge yet. It's pretty cool that there's even a little chapel nearby. My only issue? The mosquitoes were absolute killers. I'll probably just hand out 😬 bug spray as party favors to the guests!! Anyway, thanks for the tip. Any and all ideas are welcome since we're still totally spinning our wheels trying to figure out what works best for us.
Veronica, thanks for the tip. I actually grabbed lunch at Maple yesterday and the vibe there is honestly killer once they open up the patio!!
I totally get the struggle, because I’ve been losing my mind trying to figure out how to keep everyone happy.
I’m 100% with Arthur Ramirez4 on this—the absolute first thing you two need to do is get on the same page. Looks like you guys already have that handled. So then comes the real headache: dealing with family demands. You two have to fight this together if you have a specific vision for the big day. My parents are great (they aren't pushing anything), but my mother-in-law is already throwing out a million half-baked ideas, and the extended family? They're the ones really breathing down our necks. We finally agreed to do the wedding ceremony and the party on Saturday with just our inner circle—maybe 50 people or so. Then, the next day, he's hosting a big lunch for his side of the family. Am I thrilled about it? Not exactly. But at least this way, we actually get what we want on Saturday.
Joshua Brown2 said:crimsonorca11, you looking to just rent out the space, or are we talking a full-on party at a restaurant with their food and drinks included?
Both options are on the table! Honestly, if they serve decent food, that’s even better. But hey, even if they don't, it’s not a dealbreaker—Carina does killer catering. Personally? I’d love to do this out on some big lawn. Trina has plenty of space, but the weather is the real headache here. This recent weather has been absolutely insane and totally unpredictable. My first thought was actually to host both the wedding and the party out in Napa Valley by a pool (since they have an indoor hall too), but I haven't confirmed anything yet. Depending on how things shake out, I might just have to find something right here in the city.
Oh, I totally forgot to mention—we’re looking at a max of 50 people.
Honestly, I’m just grateful for every single idea thrown my way. Seriously.😁
Hey guys, I'm on the hunt for a cool cafe or a little restaurant in Indianapolis where I can rent out the space for an informal post-wedding bash for some friends. My main thing? I really want somewhere with a patio, a backyard, or maybe even a little lawn area. I’d love to keep the whole vibe outdoors, but obviously, if it starts pouring, I need a solid indoor backup plan. If anyone has any leads, pleeeeease🙂 let me know. Seriously, throw any ideas my way. No huge rush since the wedding isn't until June 2008.
Anyone from the Midwest or maybe even up near Napa have any experience with weddings at the Knežev Vinograd resort by the pools? I used to go there to swim all the time when I was a kid and it was honestly amazing. Plus, I’m really hoping I can pull off my dream here: an outdoor wedding. It’s perfect because they actually have an indoor restaurant too, just in case the weather turns sour. But since the wedding is set for June 2008, I’m a little stuck—do they even rent out the hall then? That might be right when their peak swimming season kicks off 🤔.
