cosmicscout13 said:Hey everyone... I’ve been scouring the internet looking for info on outdoor weddings out in the Midwest, but honestly, I’m coming up totally empty. Like, nothing concrete at all. I’m just starting the whole planning process—we're looking at about 70 guests—and I have this specific vision of an elegant, open-air ceremony... If anyone knows anything, has any experience, or even just a random idea, please help me out! It can't be true that there aren't any gorgeous venues or estates out here in the Midwest, right? :/

I don't know which part of the Midwest you're in or how far you're willing to travel, but there's this one hotel in a small town, USA where you could pull off an outdoor wedding. They have this massive lawn behind the hotel with a view of some ponds.

Tyler Campbell59 said:Thanks, little butterfly. Jane already sent me her number, so I’ll look into it. Honestly, calling someone from so far away feels a bit daunting. 🤷The idea of them just being a no-show is what really unnerves me. 😲

Now, a quick question for the group: while browsing through some wedding halls in Indianapolis, I stumbled upon the zoo hotel and completely fell in love with their ballroom. It’s stunning, plus it has this view of the Mississippi 😍 (I have a massive soft spot for water and wildlife) and the zoo. ''The space exudes modern luxury, subtle details, and an incomparable elegance''—that description totally sold me. 😍 So, I'm looking for intel. If anyone has any firsthand experience with this place, I’d really appreciate the insight.

Just a heads up, a local news site in Indianapolis reported a few days ago that the zoo hotel is shutting down. Apparently, they're going to finish the weddings they already have on the books, and then it's lights out.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid photographer who won't break the bank? I just need someone for the ceremony and some shots around the church. They don't need to come to the house or hang out with us after the wedding. It’s a tiny group—only about 15 people, just immediate family and the godparents. Is that even possible to find? The wedding is going to be in White Plains.

Just hit up a few photographers and see what they'll charge for a mini-session like that. Your biggest headache might be the timing—if you're looking at spring or fall, everyone is usually booked solid. Honestly, I don't know anyone who's both good and cheap. Photography is huge for me, so whenever I find a style I actually love, the price tag is always way too high. People like Sony Music, Taylor Swift, or Studio 69 are definitely out of my budget.

. Help me out here.

I'm voting for Maya 😍. Her shots are stunning—nothing overdone, just pure talent. She's got an eye for the little things and knows how to catch those real, raw moments.

jadeskipper85 said:I could use some advice on where to pick up invitation cardstock here in Indianapolis—you know, all those fancy folders and stuff. I haven't lived in the States long enough to know where everything is located. So far, I’ve checked out Hobby Lobby over in the county area and some shops on Main Street, but they're pretty overpriced. Does anyone know if Target carries anything decent? Thanks in advance!

The selection in Indianapolis isn't exactly huge. Besides the spots you already hit, check out that Chase bookstore on El Paso Street near MIT. Prices there are usually a bit better.

Not sure what their stock looks like lately since it's been a while since I was there. Personally, I just buy my paper through wholesale, but you gotta have a business license for that.

Pretty sure they don't have them in Indianapolis. I know for a fact they weren't there last year, and I haven't heard anything about anyone bringing them in lately.

I’m looking for recommendations for a solid photographer within a budget of $3333.

The vibe I’m going for is vintage—super detailed shots. I need someone young, innovative, and creative who can really capture those raw emotions and weave them into one beautiful story through their photos. I tried reaching out to May Perić, but she’s already booked up.

Feel free to shoot me a DM; any info helps!

Muchos gracias 😍
Check out the guys over at Studio 69; they might be exactly what you're after.
You can check out some of their work here: http://www.facebook.com/stu69dio?sk=wall

Or maybe try Franov http://www.marinfranov.com/

Leon Productions is amazing, but they'll definitely cost more than $3333

Does anyone know where I can pick up some rosemary?

I think some folks over in Všnjevac grow it in their greenhouses. You should check the Stock Exchange—I used to see people posting ads for rosemary there all the time.

Mark Nguyen11 said:I have one big question...

Basically, I’m completely lost on where we should go for our wedding photos. I’m actually considering doing a session a few days before the big day for two reasons: first, it gives us more breathing room on the actual wedding day, and second, it allows us to travel somewhere a bit further out. But I just don't know where to go...

Can anyone recommend some great photo locations in the Midwest? I'm from near the LLC area, but I'm open to traveling further afield. Honestly, I'm leaning toward indoor settings—think castles, museums, galleries, or anything with decent scenery that could serve as a good backdrop.

I was even thinking about heading out to Des Moines to shoot at that beautiful castle there. Does anyone happen to know if they allow photography there, and how the process works?

You could always do photos at the MLS team stadium in Indianapolis. I've seen couple shots from there before and they look straight out of a fairytale.

cosmictiger67 said:I am thinking roughly 100 invitations and 100 thank-you notes, all in a single color using laser printing. I’d love to just have them sitting here at home ready to go when 🙂

$1.75 is definitely way too much for that. For that kind of cash, you can get a finished invite set, just like you said.

cosmictiger67 said:Ladies, would anyone be willing to recommend a budget-friendly local print shop around the Indianapolis or Memphis area? I’m planning to design my own invitations, so I just need simple single-sided printing on glossy paper—nothing overly complicated. I checked with a printer in Indianapolis, and they quoted me $1.75 per invitation, which honestly feels like an absolute robbery 🤷
The reason I'm asking is that I've seen pre-made invitation sets on sale for as little as $1.00... whereas all I really need is a basic 5x5 inch square print, without any folding, adhesive, or fancy imagery. 😕

How many do you need? Is it single color or full color? And are we talking screen printing or laser?

quietbear8 said:Does anyone happen to know if there's anywhere in Indianapolis where I could pick up some satin ribbons at a more reasonable price? At Vigus, the ones I need (2 cm wide) go for $1.25/m, and over at Bagat they're $1.00/m. It seems excessive to me—especially considering how much I already spent on those ribbons for my petty cash fund. Now I’ve run short on funds for the invitations because the width I originally planned for just isn't working out. 🤷🤷

You could just order from a good partner; they're a bit cheaper, though you gotta factor in the $12 shipping costs

I suppose I should address this, though I’m not entirely sure where to begin. It feels like we're circling the same drain without actually making any progress. I might be wrong, of course—I could easily be misinterpreting the entire situation—but there seems to be a fundamental disconnect here that everyone is just choosing to ignore. It’s a bit frustrating, if I’m being honest. We spend all this time debating the minutiae while missing the actual point. Maybe I'm just being overly pedantic, but I can't help but feel like we're spinning our wheels. It’s almost as if the more we discuss it, the further we drift from any semblance of a coherent solution. I guess that’s just how these things go sometimes, isn't it? kaže:
We’re looking at a four-piece band $1,500 USD, too. $3.25I mean, we put down a deposit last July for a nine-month term, but since we're looking at this year now, I’m honestly not sure if the pricing stayed the same. It might have shifted.

Good grief, why so early? I’m actually starting to worry I won't be able to lock them down. I don't have the wedding party planned until the summer of 2027, and since I’m currently out of the country, I can't even put down a deposit before mid-June. I guess I just hope I can manage to book them in time.

Word on the street is they're already booked up for almost every weekend next year.

Does anyone happen to know where I can pick up those custom name labels for wine bottles around VC? Is there a local print shop or something similar that handles that kind of thing? Any idea what I should expect to pay?
Thanks!

I actually make them myself. 🙂 Those stickers are printed on special waterproof paper, so even if the bottle gets all sweaty or chilled, the ink won't smudge.

mistywalker5 said:Ladies, you honestly won’t believe what I’m stressing over right now—it’s actually kind of embarrassing 😉 Can someone please walk me through how the whole decorated wedding car thing works? Like, does the car stay with the bride until the groom arrives, or does the groom pick her up in it? And when heading to the chapel, is it the bride sitting in the car alone or the groom? I totally get the part after the ceremony—we’ll head off together for photos and then straight to the reception—but this whole beginning part has me so confused... please help!! I feel like I'm getting a different story from everyone I talk to... I'd love to hear what you all think...😉

From all the weddings I've been to, including my own, the groom usually drives the decorated car to go grab the bride and head to the church. The bride almost always takes a different car, usually riding with her parents.

Sarah Garcia10 said:I ended up booking Jack for early February for May 15th, so I guess everything really just hinges on your date... but honestly, ordering a few months ahead feels like plenty of time. He told me we’ll sit down about three weeks out to actually order the flowers, and that’s when he’ll give me the final invoice for everything. Everyone says his prices are great, though obviously, it all depends on how much stuff you decide to get...
Also, I had no idea you could combine things with Admiral if you have a larger guest list! That's such a huge tip, thanks for letting me know,
By the way, does anyone know what the wedding cakes are like from Lily Medved over in Ivanov? And any idea what the price range looks like there?
And I'm looking for a makeup artist recommendation in Indianapolis... also, has anyone ever had their hair done at Cornelia's salon?

Sorry, one more thing! Does anyone know where I can find those tiny little bottles—like under 0.2L—filled with wine or spirits, but without any branding on them? Also, does anyone know someone who makes fridge magnets around the Indianapolis or St. Louis area?
If anyone has a second to read this, thanks so much!☕😍

You can grab whole cases directly from the wineries. Down in Napa Valley, they usually go for around... $2.25

Jason Howard5 said:Seriously, does anyone actually let people smoke inside the venue?

My in-laws are having their big bash over at Copeland, and even though we booked the whole place out for a private party, the management is still breathing down my neck saying guests can't smoke indoors. Like, hello? It’s a private event!

What's the deal where you guys are? Is it just me?

I hit up two weddings last fall. The first one was at the Lockheed Martin hotel over in White Plains, and they wouldn't let anyone smoke until after dinner—then the servers just brought out ashtrays and everyone went for it. The second wedding was over in Zelenkrov, and they didn't allow smoking at all! Most of the guests ended up hanging out outside the venue instead.

John Ramirez10 said:e, yeah, I’ve got one more question. Does anyone know where I can find Maggie Sotero wedding dresses in Cleveland?😕

I don't think they have any in Cleveland. As far as I know, the closest ones would be over in Pittsburgh.

I heard Isabelle's Salon used to carry Maggie Sotero, but I don't think they stock it anymore. Anyone else noticed?
