I’m with bluemason3 on this one. It feels like our brains are being constantly "reprogrammed," whether it's through religion, science, or just about anything else...
Ryan Wilson2 said:Nice description. But why assume your rhetoric holds more weight than theirs?

I’m not claiming to be right, 😳
just sharing my current perspective based on what I've lived through. Anyone interested is welcome to push back... 😉
But there's a distinction. Certain "spiritual gurus" act as if they possess the absolute truth and are fully "enlightened." That's the difference...

Ryan Wilson2 said:If you believe you have a solid product that benefits people, then marketing it to make it accessible seems fine. Concepts like determinism, various theories, or claims about higher planes are just teachings—some follow them, some don't.

The issue is they weaponize those ideas for manipulation and exploitation...

Ryan Wilson2 said:Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems you haven't delved deeply enough into spiritual leadership, practice, or studying sacred texts to notice the much more insidious brainwashing techniques these types employ. Before tackling that, I'd suggest picking up a few psychology and science books first.😉

Fine. Go ahead. Give me an example of one of these brainwashing methods... 😉

Ryan Wilson2 said:You don't need twenty years of meditation; two years is enough to start seeing shifts. Provided you actually have the time, of course...

I've done a little over a year of daily meditation. Sure, changes happen. But I don't see any connection to this supposed "spiritual progress" they're all peddling...

It’s that Duran Duran video: Girls on film ... 😉
For anyone having trouble watching on YouTube ... 😉

That bass line is pretty damn sexy, too... 😉
shadowtiger said:Adam Ross4, you still part of some cult?

I've got my own little cult now... 😬

p.s. I'm not 😉
shadowtiger said:Only Adam Ross4 actually uses logic and common sense here; everyone else is just daydreaming.

thanks 😳 😬

p.s. Jason Johnson4, come back down to Earth already... 😬

Now, in all seriousness...

@shadowtiger : what I wrote here is based on my own past cultish (🙄) experiences mixed with a little logic... though much of it is actually just echoing sentiments from other specific users on this subforum... 😉

So, if you actually bother to read this section more closely, you'll find plenty of other solid, "common sense" posts. 😉

Taylor Campbell4 said:Timozes might grasp it intellectually, but he lacks the lived experience. Someone who actually knows this through experience could, say, travel at light speed or vanish and reappear at will.

traveling at light speed🙄
My own experience suggests spirit and matter are one and the same...
I fail to see any connection between traveling at light speed and that concept...

Taylor Campbell4 said:Also, if it weren't part of your experience, you wouldn't have control over your feelings, thoughts, etc.

But why? 🤔
I mean, where are you even getting these claims from? 😕 I don't see any logical link to what I said—that matter equals spirit.

rowdydrifter7 said:Sure, go ahead and say that about a piece of IKEA furniture. 🙂

😬

Maybe it looks dead, but it’s breathing...
It all comes down to perception. If you kick a chair, it isn't going to bark at you. But that doesn't mean it isn't alive... it just functions differently. 😉 😁

rowdydrifter7 The user said:Interesting theory. Just wondering... is there anything actually alive in there?

Live. 🤔 I don't get it...
Everything is alive...

"Dead matter" is nothing more than a hollow physics term. Everything is alive. 🙂

rowdydrifter7 said:It all happens simultaneously. The material and the spiritual—they’re intertwined. You can't have one without the other. One simply cannot exist without the presence of its counterpart.

Everything’s happening at once, yet it all feels exactly the same. 😉
They don't hold each other accountable. It’s pointless. They're two sides of the same coin. 😉
Fair enough. I see we’re operating on completely different wavelengths here. This topic isn't exactly winning any awards for being easy to debate, either.

Isn't that also matter...
isn't your body just spirit...
why even bother with the separation?

it's all spirit and it's all matter at once... ☕

Is there actually anything out there that isn't matter? ☕
restlessmarlin6 said:If his "guru" is fighting this hard to keep him around, then we all know exactly where things stand.

👍
It’s not about spiritual teachers... it’s about those "spiritual" types... 🙂
Tinchi said:A guru isn't here to enlighten YOU—they’re just a path you step onto while trying to find your own way (or whatever term fits—finding, developing, etc.).

Sure, maybe... but I’m talking about those "gurus" who exploit people and go to any length to do it...

They always end up "extorting" their followers by dangling enlightenment in front of them... 😉
Bapho mentioned he had something extra to add... 🙂
bluemason3 said:I honestly don't follow. I have no clue how you managed to spin such an elaborate philosophy out of such a simple post. 🤣

I didn't quite catch your drift from that last post...
Your post is just food for thought... 😁
bluemason3 said:I wasn't even aiming for what you're talking about. 🤣

Doesn't matter. 😛
Your post triggered a memory. I ended up jotting down a few thoughts on the matter... 😁

bluemason3 said:When an individual decides they’re somehow "above the spiritual laws"—basically declaring themselves God—it creates a dangerous vacuum. They turn around and enforce those very same rules on their followers, yet they remain untouchable. Everything they do is framed as this incomprehensible, flawless perfection, even when they’re clearly making a mess of things. That’s when you enter the danger zone. It becomes a playground for manipulation, unless, of course, they actually were what they claimed to be. 😁 ).

Yeah... well, that’s exactly what I wrote above. 😈
Here’s an interesting quote to chew on:

Those for whom there is no spiritual path...

Those for whom enlightenment isn't a result of effort...

Those who don't slave away at patterns and rules

Those who ignore the laws of action and reaction, or cause and effect

Those who don't blame others for their karma

Those who don't claim man possesses free will...

Doesn't that sound a bit strange?

The idea that if I just meditate eight hours a day, following some specific recipe, I’ll magically be enlightened in twenty years...

...

Yet most popular masters end up blaming people for their own sins.

Not sure who wrote this... 🤔
Maybe Lame knows. 😛 😉
As someone once smart enough to point out: "a true guru—or even just a decent teacher—will actually push you away." ☕
Adam Ross4 said:4. That whole karma thing—the idea of "cause and effect." It basically implies that human logic and perception are inherently flawed and incomplete... which gives these so-called "spiritual" gurus their sense of superiority and enlightenment, since they supposedly alone grasp the entire karmic cycle of the human race.🙄

Look, I’m not going to argue whether karma actually exists or if cause and effect even matter... ☕

But let's assume they do. If that's the case, it's obvious our own logic could never pin down a primary cause for anything. It’s just too damn complex.

And that's where the spiritual guru and their supposed enlightenment come into play... because, apparently, they’ve reached a state where they see all the causes and consequences clearly.🙄

So, the logical conclusion? Just listen to them and nobody else.😬
