Is the end of console gaming actually coming? in PC Games ·
I saw that Amazon's gaming boss is basically saying consoles are going to become obsolete because they're getting way too expensive. The idea of just streaming everything directly to a screen sounds convenient, but I worry about the lag and data usage. Do you guys think cloud gaming can actually replace a dedicated rig or console?
Philosophers and their purpose in Philosophy ·
Stephen Hawking offered an interesting observation in his book "A Brief History of Time":

Until now, most scientists have been too preoccupied with developing new theories about what the universe is to even ask why it exists at all. On the other hand, philosophers—those whose actual job is to ask "why"—haven't been able to keep pace with scientific progress. Back in the eighteenth century, philosophers considered the entirety of human knowledge, including science, to be their domain, tackling questions such as whether the universe had a beginning. But during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, science became far too specialized and mathematical for philosophers and anyone else outside of a tiny circle of experts. Philosophers narrowed their scope so much that Ludwig Wittgenstein, the most famous philosopher of the twentieth century, remarked: "The only remaining task for philosophy is the analysis of language." Quite a decline from the grand tradition of Aristotle to Kant...

Do you think philosophers are truly to blame for their shrinking scope because they couldn't keep up with science, or did science simply take over certain areas where it was more specialized and thus more successful?

Do you believe the scope of philosophy has actually narrowed?
What should modern philosophers actually be focusing on? 🙂
When does life actually begin? in Philosophy ·
A foolish question.
Life begins even before conception, given that both sperm and egg cells are living entities. 😬

However, once conception occurs, whether that mass can be called a human being... that remains a difficult question.
