Nosy banks in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
My bank has been badgering me for my ID for a month now regarding a deposit, and today they had the audacity to demand my Mastercard details for a simple transfer. It’s becoming quite an annoyance.

Moving away from the main thread for a moment: relying solely on digital payments essentially hands over a complete roadmap of your life to third parties. To put it bluntly, if you have a habit of buying excessive amounts of junk food, that data exists, and an insurance provider could easily hike your premiums because they’ve flagged you as a high-risk liability. There are endless ways this kind of surveillance can be weaponized.
Furthermore, money sitting in a bank account isn't truly yours in the absolute sense; at any given moment, a central authority can decide which priorities take precedence regarding transaction processing. In my specific line of work, there are actually scenarios where I wouldn't mind that level of automation. I once had a client end up on medical leave with insufficient income, leaving me unable to collect payment because their basic survival needs took priority—which isn't my burden to bear, but an automated system would have settled the debt instantly.
Buying a home off-plan: Is it worth the risk? in Real Estate ·
We opted to put down about 30% upfront while the building was still under construction, which allowed us to snag a rate roughly $30 per square foot lower than market value, with the balance settled just before move-in. The real perk was having the freedom to rearrange walls and plumbing layouts or swap out tiles to our liking during the process. In the end, we had to factor in some extra costs because the moisture levels took forever to stabilize after we moved in. Everything eventually worked out fine, even though the construction firm has since folded.

My personal experience
I’ve been running a Xerox 3140 for a few years now, having put through roughly 12,000 pages in total. I typically swap out the toner $57 every 2,500 pages or so. Despite sitting right on the floor and being constantly exposed to sawdust in my workshop, it hasn't missed a beat or thrown a single error code.

I ran DriverUpdate, and it ended up pulling down two or three different drivers for the touchscreen.

Well, here we go again—another Dell unit has landed on my desk, and once more, the scroll function is completely dead on Windows 10. I’ve decided to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 to see if that clears the air, though I couldn't quite crack this issue on the previous machine. It's actually starting to make me wonder if that specific touch option was simply disabled at the hardware level 🙂
. On the Dell br1, everything works perfectly fine using the Synaptics drivers...
As for the Dell br2, I hit a wall and gave up; I'm just using a mouse now, and frankly, I can't bring myself to care.
Now, we wait and see how the third one behaves.
Just for context, units 1 and 3 are running Windows 7, while unit 2 is on Windows 10.

ES1. Just the Scroll.

I picked up a new Dell laptop, and the Scroll function is completely unresponsive. I checked their official site, but there isn't a single driver listed for it. On my older Dell, I just use the Synaptics driver to get things moving. What’s even more baffling is that this new machine is running Windows 8, an operating system that feels entirely foreign to me at this point.

Forget about that unknown brand. In my experience, it performed beautifully right out of the box. My main reason for picking it up was its ability to handle oversized paper, specifically those 120 cm sheets. I initially started using third-party toner, and while it held up for a little while, it eventually began misaligning colors in a rather bizarre way. When I reached out, the support response was essentially a condescending question about what I expected from a low-budget machine; frankly, given how well it performed initially, that answer left a bitter taste in my mouth. Regardless, I’m not printing high-end photography—just things like price lists and invitations—so the color issues aren't a dealbreaker for me. On the plus side, the build quality is solid; I've already burned through three sets of toner and it's still chugging along reasonably well.

Standard business cards usually call for about 300g weight, though I’m not entirely certain if an inkjet is the right tool for the job if you aren't planning on laminating them.

You seem pretty fixated on quoting the price plus sales tax. Is there actually a way to get these figures without the tax included? Maybe you have some kind of connection?

P.S.
I honestly feel like Reddit needs a "Thanks" button, similar to what you see on other platforms.... because up until now, I've been interacting with a whole host of people who truly earned a bit of gratitude....

No need for a button; I'd settle for a burger instead. 🙂

Back when I had a Konica Minolta bizhub on a lease, they were pretty consistent about supplying me with compatible toner cartridges.

Frank Barnes said:The folks at Adriatix will have the answer. If they can't figure it out at an official OKI service center, then that’s their headache, not ours.

How so?

Let me paint you a picture.

Essentially, a customer buys a cheap third-party toner just to walk into Adriatix and demand a free repair on the OPC unit. The catch is, the exact same issue was there long before they ever swapped the toner.

Buying original toners will cost you $740 which means $73 more than the printer itself. They do it solely to squeeze some value out of a warranty. It's classic American consumer stupidity—buying something just for a guarantee they'll likely never use, or will end up paying extra $740 just to fight for what they think is rightfully theirs.

Well, if one is going to buy original toners, there should be a logical reason for it. For instance, I have a Xerox 3140 that is currently running on its seventh off-brand cartridge. My OKI 342 set me back about $500 and those initial toners didn't even manage to hit 350 pages, despite what "common sense" math would suggest compared to their official claim of 5% coverage. If manufacturers are going to pull the wool over our eyes, I might as well do the same.

Jesse Ortiz4 said:Take a look at the OKI MC332dn (around $667)

The drum comes with a 60,000-page duty cycle warranty.
It offers faster print speeds than the competition along with a two-year warranty.

Also, keep in mind these printers support third-party toner cartridges.
Though, I suspect you aren't technically supposed to use them while the warranty is still active.

As for the Wi-Fi, I'm not sure why you'd even need it; just plug it into a hardwired connection and call it a day.

How is a technician even supposed to determine if you used third-party cartridges instead of the OEM ones?
Besides, when you consider that ridiculous "5% coverage" metric, sticking to original ink or toner is hardly a logical financial decision. You end up burning through a 1,500-page cartridge in maybe 300 prints, which makes the math completely nonsensical. I stick with OKI specifically because the print quality is superb, yet I exclusively use compatible toners. If the machine actually needs to go in for service within its three-year window, then I'll simply pop in the original cartridges. If they weren't offering cheap alternatives, nobody would bother with the generics in the first place.
Panic attacks while on antidepressants in Psychology & Therapy ·
jadehawk8 said:Does anyone else deal with little waves of anxiety or panic while on antidepressants? I’ve been on mine for two months now and honestly, things have been great—my old issues are pretty much gone. But today, while I was out grabbing coffee, I got this sudden wave of feeling like I might pass out. It totally triggered that old sensation. Maybe I just overdid it being out all day and I'm actually just exhausted? It really spooked me, thinking I might slide back into my old patterns, but I'm taking my meds and hoping for the best. I really don't want to go through that hell again.

That caffeine is likely what triggered it.
