Ferrari's strategy was great too. But let's be real, it wouldn't have even worked if

1) Vettel hadn't pulled off that masterclass defending 2nd place after the start
2) Vettel hadn't built that massive 10-second gap over Hamilton
3) Vettel hadn't brilliantly overtaken Rosberg
4) [Wait] Vettel didn't coincidentally lose his spot to Rosberg after that second pit stop

Get it?

Ferrari's strategy was also killer back in Abu Dhabi 2010. But for Alonso to actually make it work, he needed to

1) Overtake Petrov
2) Overtake Rosberg

He failed at both.

And that’s why Vettel’s a four-time champ today while Alonso’s stuck with two.

That's why Vettel's at Ferrari and Alonso's at McLaren.

That's why Vettel is a hero and Alonso's a clown.

Capiche?

🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦 🤦🤦

That's why Vettel is a hero today, while Alonso is just a clown.

Razmeta?

I think you're the clown here—but hey, that's a whole different conversation...

Was it Petrov or someone else? 🤷

Mercedes actually had a solid strategy—if anything, the SC helped them out...
They would’ve had to pit in a lap or two, maybe five at most...
So there's zero argument about "botched" tactics here. If anything, that SC arrived right on cue.

Sure, sounds great—except they ended up doing one more pit stop than Sebastian Vettel.
Congrats to Sebastian Vettel on the win—totally deserved—but he really should’ve given a shoutout to Mercedes for that messy strategy call.

Got a problem with that?

Look, I don't care what you think—it’s just hilarious to me that you could actually root for that total garbage...🤣
darkmarlin16, you've got the times wrong—qualifying starts at 10:00 and the race is at 9:00
darkmarlin16 said:Thirteen years ago at the United States Grand Prix 2014, you basically turned you into my absolute present and future, while Ralf is just ancient history now.
In that first race where I was rooting for you, you grabbed Renault's first podium since Patrick Tambay way back in 1985.

On your favorite track, you managed to pull off three wins with three totally different teams. 🙏
Back in 2005, you snatched up that first win during your debut championship season.

Then in 2007, you locked in that first victory for McLaren, which happened in only your second outing with the crew from Woking.

You were pulling for Ralf 🤣

I rounded up to 10 years—and honestly, I never was much of a fan of John Smith👋

I gotta say, your post caught me totally off guard...

I've been following Formula 1 since 2001, but honestly, my absolute favorites were the 2005 and 2006 seasons—back when Alonso and Renault were absolutely dominating everything.

Now, to be fair, we do occasionally touch on these topics when discussing specific races, but I’d love to start a dedicated thread specifically to dive into this issue.

I stumbled upon this news story recently:

Where exactly is Formula 1 heading? We are losing those legendary European tracks because they simply can't afford the hosting fees, and what are we getting in return? Just a string of venues like Dubai, Sophia, or Singapore and Azerbaijan acting as the European Grand Prix 😵

Sure, the tracks themselves are ultra-modern and high-tech, but let's be honest—the races have become a bit of a lullaby. It often feels like you're just sitting there waiting for pit stops just to see a single position change.

Is Formula 1 eventually going to dig its own grave? And looking back, when were the moments you truly enjoyed Formula 1 the most?

About 10 or 15 years ago—back before we had all this DRS nonsense, two-compound tire strategies, manufactured overtakes, and those lifeless tracks. Nowadays, just like Joe says, I find myself enjoying other series more. I'm big on NASCAR, the Indianapolis 500, WRC...

Speed matters too, darkmarlin16—otherwise you’d just be sitting there watching tractors race...🤣

You clearly don't know what the word "refugee" even means, so maybe stop using it...

These drivers are still some of the best in the world...

A washed-up retiree, a failed Pike—and I won't even list the rest—basically everyone who’s either too old or just didn't make it in the series they wanted to.

The driving skill here is basically just a bunch of refugees from other series—and that's assuming the car even hits 137 miles mph 😂

We’ll just have to wait and see how things shake out next year with Honda and Alonso... 👋
Long live the new king! in Formula 1 ·
How can you say they had a great engine when Ron Dennis himself admitted they weren't running the same power unit as Mercedes—that they were actually a bit behind...

And how do you know this slump isn't just them gearing up for next year? For all we know, McLaren spent this entire season experimenting just to get ready for their move to Honda next year...

Red Bull didn't pick up Alonso—I mean, seriously, why would anyone even think that was on the table?...

That’s what they said. It all comes down to their driver development program—bringing someone else in just wouldn't make any sense given how they've mapped everything out...

So, B—Mercedes didn't go for Alonso... honestly, why hasn't anyone even seriously considered that possibility over there? It just doesn't add up...

Why would they even touch a winning combination? Besides—both drivers are already locked in for 2015 anyway...

So... why didn't Williams ever pick up Alonso? And honestly—why was it that nobody over there even considered it?...

It’s pretty simple—Alonso isn't going to join some customer team where he'd have zero shot at winning a championship...

So... why hasn't McLaren confirmed Alonso yet if they've already signed him?

How many times do we have to say it? It’s because they want to settle on their second driver first—then they'll announce both of them together...

William Bennett53 said:@neonfox65/">@@neonfox65, you mentioned earlier that the Renault engine was a mess at the start of the season, yet Red Bull managed to snag three wins with it by the end—so that’s my optimistic take for the McLaren Honda combo next year. But look, McLaren isn't Red Bull... I'm not sure where you're getting that optimism from when McLaren had superior Mercedes engines all season long and still couldn't grab a single win. Maybe Newey is joining them next season?

My point is just that Renault had massive engine issues and they actually fixed them before the season kicked off. So why wouldn't Honda be able to do the same if they run into trouble like you're suggesting...

William Bennett53 said:Man, if only Alonso had managed to pass Petrov... we actually would've had one... 😳

Not really—you’d have to beat Rosberg first... ☕ You gotta admit—Tim really played him there...

William Bennett53 said:I honestly think the contract hasn't been signed yet—mostly because McLaren seems to be winning the driver lineup lottery for the third time in a row...

A trophy for the second driver... ☕

Even if Honda makes some serious progress next year—I mean, even if they improve at the same rate Renault did this season—who’s actually saying McLaren is going to be on par with Red Bull? They’ve had a better engine than them for a few years now (including this year), yet they still haven't managed to build a better car...

I was saying—I'm expecting McLaren to come out ahead of Ferrari, but as for Red Bull... I just don't know...

William Bennett53 said:I tend to believe everything I read, and here you are defending him leaving the team where he was basically the Lord of the Rings—all without even having a signed contract elsewhere—while he watches them struggle to even finish three laps without a breakdown... yet they still haven't handed him a deal.

Lord of the Rings without the ring (title) 😂

How can you be so sure the contract isn't signed? Just because it hasn't been announced doesn't mean it isn't done.

Forget about those three laps for a second—remember how much trouble Renault had during pre-season testing before this season, only to end up second in the standings with three wins...

William Bennett53 said:Is that right? Man, I must have misread something then—I heard they turned down his request for a one-year deal and told him they were cutting back on his technical crew for his side of the garage. If that’s actually what happened, it sounds less like a choice and more like they pushed him out just to clear a seat for Ford... ☕

You've got it all wrong 👋

You really believe everything you read online, huh...

Where's your logic? If Lewis Hamilton wanted to stay at Ferrari, he would've stayed—he had a contract. But Lewis wanted out because he was done playing games with them. They didn't give him a car that could compete with a couple of Red Bulls for five years straight, so obviously, he's moving on to find some wins with someone else.
