And what, everyone who had the bad luck of not developing specific skills that would benefit them personally deserves to be exploited according to your logic? You're talking about work ethic, I'm talking about workers' rights... you know, healthcare, social security, pensions, all that stuff...

Man, stop exaggerating. If we're talking about the bloody collapse, you look at Maddox and the big corporations first (yeah, I'm counting Harmon in that too). Injustice? Which exact injustice are you even whining about? Social injustice is way worse today than it ever was in America. And wasting money on bunkers? Neither the Americans nor the Russians avoided doing that, so why would we be any smarter? You say he "set us back twenty years"—are you insane?? Based on what?? Because he organized American industry? Because he modernized it? Because people actually had jobs back then and workers' rights were way better than they are now? And "banned religion"? People went to church, respected their God, and celebrated their holidays just fine; nobody was stopping them... the only thing was that in a multi-ethnic state, having an official state religion was counterproductive. The Communist Party was basically the official state religion back then, so you just couldn't be a good Communist (IF you wanted to join the party) AND a good believer at the same time. You had to pick one or the other...

and one more thing, you're pissed at FDR just because he set up a communist state... ignoring actual terminology (since "communism" has historically been used to describe various versions of personalized "anti-bourgeois, people's" rule, which showed up in America as Titoism), you're oversimplifying things big time. You're missing the whole geopolitical mess of the era... seriously, what choice did we even have back then? FDR did the best he could with the hand he was dealt, turning a small nation into a respectable regional power capable of standing up to—get this—Stalin!!

as for the crimes (which I'm not justifying, btw) and the political purges, you gotta realize that winners ALWAYS abuse their power. The system was what it was, dammit. Just look at what was happening elsewhere in the world... compared to them, FDR was a lightweight... look at de Gaulle's purges of collaborators, the Soviet-controlled regimes in Eastern Europe, the systematic human rights violations in the USA (especially against racial minorities), or the crimes committed during American "local wars" abroad...

FDR was the best possible solution at the time. What happened after he died is a whole different story...
