So, George mentioned you, and I figured I’d give you a heads-up—we had way more dessert than we needed. We actually ended up packing some into little boxes to take home. Maybe we went a bit overboard on the dry cookies, because there was still an entire big box left over at the end... but hey, nothing went to waste, which is what matters. We just split up the leftovers among everyone.
swiftmason9 said:Hey, I know you all have already shared how many treats you ended up going through per person. But, true to form, I’ve got a few more questions 😬 Were those numbers just for the reception area, or were they meant for party favors too? We actually decided against doing favor boxes this time (finally made a decision, haha), so I'm trying to figure out how much dessert we should grab for a hall with about 100 guests. It's easy enough to handle at home, but planning for a venue like this is stressing me out... so please, if anyone has any advice, let me know 🙂
The bakery where we booked our desserts told us to go with 3-4 pieces per person, so that's what we did. On top of that, we grabbed 13 kg of cookies—all for about 200 guests. That means 800 individual pieces plus the 13 kg of cookies, plus the wedding cake, plus a free standard cake they threw in. And even then, they told us it was probably way too much.
Chloe Miller2 said:Which parfait did you use? I'm looking for that exact combo—heavy chocolate on the outside and something light and airy inside. I think I'll decorate mine with some orange and green butterflies...😍
Man, this cake is gonna look killer. Those butterflies will be a nice touch. 😍 😍 😍 😍
Hey, we ended up grabbing all the pastries and the cake in Des Moines from that bakery in Appalachia. We got 800 individual pieces, a wedding cake, and 13kg of assorted cookies for $1000 everyone. Since the wedding is over in Lancaster at the Smalltown, USA hotel, we didn't really care if the treats came from Columbus or Des Moines—it’s basically the same drive. Plus, they handle their own delivery, and their price per piece is actually cheaper than any of the bakeries in Columbus. So, we went with them, and honestly, the food is incredible. Not to mention, the staff is super chill and friendly. They aren't those pushy types trying to upsell you; they actually suggested we order *less* because they thought we had way too much for 200 people.😛
My wedding cake is gonna be four tiers—square on the bottom, then three round ones on top. Each level is a different flavor, and I’m going all out with chocolate frosting on the outside. It’s looking like it’ll run me about $117. 😁 😁 😁
The only thing is, if the bakers tell me they can handle the custom gift boxes (still waiting to hear back), the price might jump up a bit.
So, a close friend of mine who’s a total pro pastry chef is making my wedding cake—we’ve pretty much nailed down all the details, but I’m totally stuck on one thing: I need a killer alternative to those cheesy little bride and groom figurines for the top. Does anyone have any cool ideas? I was thinking maybe something cute like two little elephants or something along those lines... but where would I even find them? I’ve been scrolling through the internet forever and honestly, nothing is hitting the spot. I even checked out the catalog at Hobby Lobby, but they don't have anything remotely interesting, ugh!
Honestly, since I can't stand those wedding toppers—they all look the exact same to me—I decided to just go with strawberries all over the thing. It'll be chocolate on the outside with strawberries everywhere. I think it's gonna be killer...😍

Damn, blueotter13, those are cute as hell, but they are pricyyyyyyy 😲 😲 😲 !!!!!
shadowbadger13 said:Haha, I am right there with you on that one. 🤣 🤣 🤣 I really don't care about the structural integrity during the cutting process. White chocolate is just divine on a cake—I've tested that theory several times now—so it’s super important to me that my guests get to experience that same level of bliss. I actually ordered a slightly larger cake, so the servers should be able to cut thicker slices without any drama. It's filled with chocolate cream and cherries. I think it's going to be amazing.
shadowbadger13, so what kind of filling are you going with for yours??
No clue, haven't even thought about it yet. I'll figure it out when I go to the meeting for the dessert selection. I'll just ask for recommendations since I'm not really a huge sweets person myself. To be honest, I don't care much about the filling... but I'll probably go with something light and easy to eat. 😁
Honestly, I don't really care if it crumbles when I slice it. As long as it looks good and holds up in the heat, we're golden. I mean, even my regular homemade brownies fall apart sometimes and won't slice clean, but who cares? The point is that it tastes incredible. 😁
Man, I’m dying for one of those chocolate fudge cakes too. If they can't pull it off in NYC, what hope do I have out here in Des Moines? Also, does anyone know if they actually make custom suitcases? Honestly, I might just have a total meltdown before I even find the cake...😈
I just caught this... regarding those tray-style dessert squares, I honestly don't have a clue. At every wedding I've attended, they always serve those bite-sized mini treats—and they aren't always "dry" 😬 either—which you usually just buy by the pound. Word is you need about half a pound per person, maybe more if you're plating them individually in little boxes. Of course, if you're serving other desserts too, you won't need nearly that much per guest. But what kind of squares are we talking about? Something like a cream pie, a chocolate fudge, or maybe a lemon bar?
Yeah, that’s what the bakery told me too. They don't really do the super creamy stuff because it's too risky to transport. Around the Midwest, I haven't heard anyone mention buying dessert by the pound, but every time I call a shop to check prices, they all talk about trays of bars or those little finger cookies you buy by weight. It's driving me a bit crazy trying to figure it out. I'll check back with the bakery to see how many of those dry treats I should get alongside the bars. I definitely want to have some leftovers to pack up for people, especially since a lot of guests are traveling from out of town...
