Sophia Price5 said:I have attended this fair myself, along with several of the recent ones. It seems to be much the same every year; I sampled some treats from the small cake house, which were quite pleasant. I believe they go for $23/lb. What dustyheron23 mentioned regarding the $18/lb price point refers to those cookies from that firm out of Columbus (some sort of Bond Pro, if I recall correctly), though they have since rebranded. I am not entirely sure why 🤷, but they are now operating as Absum LLC, Masaryk, Columbus—they have only been on the market for maybe two or three years and are already changing their name, which perhaps isn't the best for their reputation.

I realize we all want to find the most affordable options, but I suppose there must be a reason why some cookies are priced at $23, while others being shipped all the way from Columbus cost $18? It isn't merely about massive profit margins. Some might disagree with my perspective, but I suspect ingredient quality and sourcing play a significant role, which is why I tend to favor the small cake house.

Since I'm from Columbus, I know Absum has rebranded three times now (Bond, Bond Professional, and now Absum), and I won't get into the "why" because most people here in Columbus already know the reason. Personally, and for most of my friends, their cookies just aren't the same anymore. They were perfect at first, especially the Canadian style, but maybe because they started mass-producing, they taste too artificial now. I ordered cookies and a cake from Laura's Bakery, also from Columbus. They were more expensive at $1.75 per pound, but much tastier to me. Plus, I worked out a payment plan with the owner since we were heading straight to our honeymoon right after the party. If anyone wants their address or number, just shoot me a PM.

Bradley Bishop6 said:I think the final price on a cake gets ridiculously inflated if they're padding the cost by baking the cheaper pastries into the total. For instance, when I was at Nikolin's, they told me they don't charge extra for decorations, the display stand, or even the fondant. Because of that, you end up getting six different cakes on a single stand $333 regardless of the flavors, which I honestly find much more reasonable than what other places are charging.

I called a few bakeries myself, and everyone either charges more or about the same. Nobody is "throwing in" things like chocolate fountains, bride and groom toppers, or fondant for free. A cake with all that included costs $650 and I honestly don't think that's expensive. Also, please, can you send me the number for Nikolin's? I couldn't find them online or in any directory, and I want to check their pricing.

Dana Wright4 said:slylynx55 where on earth are you picking up those cakes?
because honestly, the prices you just mentioned are actually pretty reasonable...👍

I pick them up at this bakery called Laura in Indianapolis and then drive them over to NYC. I asked her about paying for the delivery, but she said don't even worry about it.

We’re looking at about 250 guests for the wedding. The bakery owner told us we should budget roughly 10 ounces of sweets per person, which puts us at around 140 pounds for the big day. Plus, I want to order another 33 pounds to have on hand at our places. For the cake, she said the standard is about 3.5 ounces per person. Honestly? I just don't want anyone complaining that there wasn't enough dessert. So, I'm thinking a 55-pound cake. She mentioned the cake itself is $500 plus all the decor (like toppers, fountains, and the couple figures), and if we want fondant, it’ll be an extra $350-$$133. Is that a lot, or are these prices pretty standard? We actually tried some of the sweets—she gave us almost everything they'll be serving, and they were delicious. We also swung by on a Saturday night when they had their wedding cakes out, so I've seen how they look. Sorry for the long post, I'm just stressed about making sure everything is perfect so nobody complains later. Bye!

Hey, quick question. Our wedding is coming up soon and we've pretty much checked everything off the list, but I'm still tackling the dessert situation—specifically cakes and pastries. We're currently scouting out different vendors, and I was wondering if you guys think $18 per pound is a fair price for pastries and $20 for a cake? Also, does anyone know if they charge extra for fondant if that's what we go with? I haven't quite settled on a design yet. Thanks in advance!
