steelotter2 said:Help, help... I desperately need some solid recommendations for cookies and cake. Honestly, looking at all these prices lately with inflation being what it is, everything has gone through the roof! Most of these dessert prices are totally blowing my budget out of proportion (like, twice what I expected to pay)... My biggest worry is the cake, though. I’ve got my heart set on this hazelnut cake with white chocolate parfait and a white chocolate glaze, and I’m terrified it’s gonna cost an absolute fortune... Does anyone know of a good local bakery that can whip up pretty much anything you can dream up without charging a ridiculous amount??

Honey, you should check out The Little Cake House—they have a website and they are amazing. $23 is a decent price for a pound of cake or cookies, and they actually do custom cakes too—you pick the flavor and how it looks. And seriously, their pastries are delicious!!!!!!!!!!🙂

casualbison14 said:Regarding the sweets; your idea is solid. I agree that half those tiny little things go uneaten and just clutter the table all night. I always recommend Little House of Cookies because I buy from them constantly and they did the desserts for my wedding. Last year I grabbed some for a birthday and brought them to work. It's pretty much what you're thinking—larger creamy squares—and the price per pound was basically the same as the tiny ones.
Check the flower market downtown for those bags... I think they should have them there... look for a shop called Good Partner...

I am 100% backing that recommendation for Little House of Cookies! They’re super friendly, their treats are incredible, and they’re actually willing to work with you on things—plus, the prices are actually reasonable compared to how much other places rip you off by the pound!!!!!!!! casualbison14, thanks for the tip, they are awesome!!!!!!!

Seriously though, tell me—are you actually happy with them????? I went to one of those places recently and they only offered dry-as-a-bone cookies, and honestly, I am just not about that life!!!!!!

casualbison14 said:Totally agree... they did the cakes and the wedding cake for us. Seriously legit homemade style. I know they're charging $23/kg now since I ordered some for my daughter's first birthday.
They do free delivery to your place or the restaurant, and honestly, the fact that they pack everything nicely on trays or in boxes was a huge plus for me. For the cake, I just showed them a photo of what I wanted and they nailed it.....
Now that I'm ordering a birthday cake, they mentioned they'll be at the wedding expo over at the Bowling Alley—not sure when exactly, maybe this weekend?!?

Yeah, honey, it's this weekend—Friday through Sunday at the Bowling Alley!!!!! But hey, tell me where this bakery is located? I am desperately hunting for a decent place to get cakes and pastries!!!!!!!???? 😕

Sophia Price5 said:Since we are discussing Salmonella, I suppose one must be cautious, though having a food handler's permit doesn't necessarily mean those pastries are somehow "immune," if I may use that term, to bacteria. I suspect how those treats are stored plays an equally vital role.
As for restaurants—speaking purely from my own observations—many seem to lack proper cold storage or refrigerated display cases where wedding cakes and desserts could be kept until they are actually served. Instead, they tend to set them directly on the table (not all of them, I suppose, but certainly most), even though the newlyweds might not arrive for several hours... I once personally witnessed a wedding cake being placed in a room where cured meats and similar deli products were hanging from the ceiling.
Therefore, when you are selecting sweets for a wedding, regardless of any official certification, it might be wise to avoid anything with egg-based creams; there is surely a vast array of delicious options that don't require them.

On a side note, I wonder if restaurants are permitted to accept desserts that I have baked myself at home, or if they insist that everything must be purchased through them? I am merely thinking of ways to save a bit of money, I guess.....

You absolutely HAVE to check with the venue first!!!!!!!! I've heard from some places that you can bring your own—like, something your grandma or auntie baked—but lately, a lot of them are demanding that specific bakery certification to guarantee everything is fresh (probably because of the eggs) and to prevent Salmonella!!!!!! Plus, they told me that with that certification, they're basically protecting themselves from any legal crap if something goes wrong, because otherwise, the bakery takes all the heat!!!!!

That works—hey, send me their number so I can give them a shout. Also, let me know if they actually deliver straight to the venue??????

feraltrucker22 said:What???? A cake for 80 people $833? That's pure robbery... mine for about 380 guests is going to cost me $833! if not less...

Yeah, they charge an absolute fortune—sure, the quality is decent, but I refuse to hand over that kind of cash just out of pure principle. Where are you even getting your sweets and cakes from???? The venue told me I have to use some specific bakery that carries official health certifications because of salmonella scares!!!!!!!!!! And honestly, I don't even know where else to look! I stopped by Malibu, and they're charging $37/kg for pastries and a cake for 80 people is $300. 😕

Michael Ramos10 said:The Bond company out of Kansas will be handling our cakes and pastries. I'm not sure where you're from...
I'll take a look at their catalog to see what they offer and what kind of work they do.

Look, I'm based in Washington, D.C., and I've personally checked out a few different places around here—some of them don't even do tiered wedding cakes, and others? Honestly, they are obscenely expensive. Like, can you believe someone would charge that much for a wedding cake for maybe 80 people$833?????

I can't believe I even have to say this, but since nobody seems to be listening—seriously, does anyone actually read these threads?—let me lay it out one more time. I’m looking at what Michael Ramos10 was saying earlier, and honestly? It’s pure nonsense. Just complete, unadulterated nonsense. You can't just walk around claiming things are "fine" when we all know the system is practically held together by duct tape and prayers at this point. And don't even get me started on the stuff Mark Kelly4 was posting about the recent policy shifts. It's laughable. Truly. They act like everything is being handled with surgical precision, but it feels more like a toddler playing with a chemistry set. There’s a massive disconnect between what the people in Washington, D.C. are deciding and what's actually happening on the ground in places like a small town in the Midwest. It’s frustrating—no, it’s infuriating—to watch this play out while everyone else just shrugs their shoulders. Look, I'm not trying to be the "angry person" in the room—though clearly, that's my role now—but someone has to call this out. We see the patterns. We see how these decisions ripple out and hit regular Americans right where it hurts. It’s not just a minor hiccup; it’s a systemic failure. If you think otherwise, you're either willfully ignorant or you're just not paying attention. And frankly, if you aren't paying attention, why are you even here? kaže:
Ugh, don't even get me started... honestly, I haven't the slightest clue anymore.🤷
Seriously, just go to Google and type in "wedding cakes." I’m telling you—if you search for images instead of clicking through random websites, you'll get exactly what you need instantly. It's a total game changer.😉

Where on earth did you end up getting your cakes and pastries done!!!!!!! I mean, seriously—I went around to a few different bakeries with just a couple of reference photos, and they actually had the nerve to tell me they don't do that kind of work. Like, excuse me? As if it’s too demanding or something!!!!!😕😕

And hey, driftingtrucker22, listen—I actually decided on the kale theme too, both for the flowers and the cake! Seriously, tell me where you're getting the treats from, and which florist did you end up picking???? Are you maybe living in Washington, D.C.?? Because I've got a bunch of pictures related to the kale vibe (for the floral arrangements AND the cake)!!!! Also, I'm dreaming of having a cake on those tiered stands that cascade down beautifully!!!!! Any recommendations??????😕🙂
