Lawrence Wilson77 said:We managed to lock in an order with the folks from Columbus, Bond Pro. We actually headed over there before the trade show because we knew they were going to hike their prices up... we're paying $16 per pound, which was a great deal, and honestly, the pastries are delicious. We picked up a cake there too, since it wouldn't make any sense to hunt for one elsewhere now. As for the pastry boxes, they have a bit of a trick there... one box costs 3 dollars, and then they charge an additional 3 dollars just to pack the treats inside. It’s the same story with the trays; they’ll charge maybe 4 dollars for a large tray, and then another 3 dollars to set the pastries on it. But what can you do? I don't have anyone available to handle that on the day of the event, so you just have to pay for the convenience. At least everything is fresh.

I don't know, ladies—homemade is always better in my book. Anything from the Columbus crew is definitely mass-produced. At the fair, the only things worth anything were Little House of Cookies and a smile. Everything else was either garbage or way overpriced.
Regarding the cost, once you factor in the setup and delivery, you're looking at almost $23 anyway. So they aren't actually any cheaper than the other options.

The only thing I ever grabbed at Vincent's was ice cream, so I can't really speak to the cakes. Honestly, I just stick to that little local bakery because I know everything there is legit and homemade. They actually started baking cakes for Hershey's at the chocolate shop on Broadway. Anyone tried them yet?!?
I was thinking about ordering something there for my husband for Valentine's Day, so I'm looking for the real scoop...

Anthony Kelly81 said:Seriously, Vincek has gotten so artificial lately. And honestly? I don't think I've ever even seen a croquant cake there...👎

Never actually tried anything from Vincek, so who knows what they taste like—but their site says they have brittle in the lineup. I've never had brittle myself, though looking at the ingredients, it seems like it'd be way too sweet...

Does anyone know if I can find a Croquant wedding cake anywhere in Washington, D.C.? Also, if anyone’s ever tried getting one shipped in from California, please let me know—I'm dying to have this specific cake at my wedding.

Thanks🙂

check out Whole Foods—pretty sure they'd carry something like that

Zachary Gray35 said:I was beyond satisfied. Found them by total accident, then later some buddies mentioned they’ve been regulars there for years—cookies, cakes, service, the whole nine yards. Everything hits the mark. My only gripe is their prices have spiked since I first started using them, but at least they haven't gone up to $30 like those other guys....

Look, some places are charging over $33/lb... just insane. I don't know about you guys, but $23 is my absolute limit per pound. At the Small house, they told me they had to hike things up because the cost of eggs and oil went through the roof. But hey, the treats are homemade and legit, plus I only buy small amounts anyway. I saw stuff at the grocery store in Avenue Mall going for $60/lb though.

John Hayes5 said:Seriously though, tell me—are you actually happy with them????? I went to one of those places recently and they only offered dry-as-a-bone cookies, and honestly, I am just not about that life!!!!!!

I was beyond satisfied... Got a recommendation right here on this forum and I've been a regular ever since.

I thought it was this weekend too, but honestly, I wasn't sure—check the photos on the website first. That Small house bakery is out in the Suburban neighborhood.

Zachary Gray35 said:Maybe try that little bakery over on the corner... though I bet their prices have spiked too. About a year and a half ago, they were still $20... but their sweets are killer. They've done custom cakes for me before, and I think they make those mini cupcakes too.

Totally agree... they did the cakes and the wedding cake for us. Seriously legit homemade style. I know they're charging $23/kg now since I ordered some for my daughter's first birthday.
They do free delivery to your place or the restaurant, and honestly, the fact that they pack everything nicely on trays or in boxes was a huge plus for me. For the cake, I just showed them a photo of what I wanted and they nailed it.....
Now that I'm ordering a birthday cake, they mentioned they'll be at the wedding expo over at the Bowling Alley—not sure when exactly, maybe this weekend?!?
