Yeah, I guess everyone’s experience is different. Personally, I could really taste the granulated sugar in a lot of those pastries—you know, that annoying crunch between your teeth? Plus, they were pretty poorly shaped, and every fourth cookie or so had the crust just peeling right off. Honestly, that was a total dealbreaker for me. 👎

Kenneth Anderson12 said:We went back in May. We happened to drop in on a Saturday during a wedding and picked up a pound of pastries to try. Everyone who had a bite said they were delicious.

Yeah, well, I just didn't like them. Maybe they were having an off day, or maybe it was just me! 😁
It doesn't matter though. Once I finally pick out my favorite bakery, I'll make a big announcement here! Until then, my goal is to pack on at least 20 pounds! 🙂

Jeeeeeeeeeee! We were actually there in July! I asked Ann if there was any way we could sample those pastries they were offering, but she just kept circling around the question—saying she’d have to let us know when the next wedding is, blah, blah, blah... 😕 So we eventually gave up, even though she could have just told us it was from the Mouse bakery.
And honestly... I’m still on the hunt for those sweets, and I’m starting to think there’s something wrong with me. Every single bakery I’ve tried where the treats cost anywhere from $50 to $27 has been a massive letdown. Maybe the problem is just me... 🤷

Kenneth Anderson12 said:The pastries at Salt Lake Secret are wonderful too, but since the hotel where I'm having my wedding orders their treats from Mouse Bakery, I went with theirs at $22 per pound.
I'm not sure if you've tried them at the bridal expo?

Salt Lake Secret is AWESOME, but honestly, they’re a bit too pricey for me...
I actually tried the stuff from Mouse Bakery too—I even dragged my husband out to pick up 2 kg of them way out in the middle of nowhere🙂—but I wasn't exactly blown away. They were definitely better than what you get at Absalom, but 🤷 I have a few complaints. Then again, I'm a total dessert freak, so maybe I'm not the most reliable judge. Where are you holding the wedding? Please tell me it's not at Joe-Schmoe's venue?

Nathan Cox25, you honestly act like you have all the answers! 😉 But every single thing you suggest ends up being a total disaster in the end. 🙂
People are actually raving about them, though I really hope I don't end up disappointed...
After they're done, we've got Toledo!
Larry Perez, $40/kg??? No wonder they won't just give you a price over the phone!!! That is just awful! I don't get it—I know there's a gap between the ones at $17 and the ones at 80 or 90, but 120??? Who does that, seriously?
Kenneth Anderson12, getting cake from the Salt Lake Secret is such a great idea, but I am seriously torn because of the dessert situation there. Their cakes are amazing, but they are $30/kg, plus I have to buy my own boxes and plates for the tables which are $3.25, making everything totaly $33/kg. That feels like way too much to me... There I go again with my "100" rule! And when I'm ordering a large amount, that difference is huge. Is there really nothing in the middle between 50 and 100??? 🙂

We just got a recommendation to pick up some M&M's and sugar...

I'm also wondering about those M&M's and machine-made treats. Anyone here actually used them before? What kind of prices are we looking at?

I’m honestly so bummed out about Sweetie. I really thought at least the pastries wouldn't be an issue, something I could count on, but then I show up and—total letdown—they're closed! 🙂
I might try grabbing some treats from the Sweet Secret bakery over in Stupnik, but I'm lowkey worried their prices will be way higher than $33...🙂
After that, I'll head over to Smile and check out Topolovec! I also heard there's a new pastry shop popping up at the market in Zaprešić—does anyone know anything about their sweets? I've heard their cakes are amazing, but I have no clue about their individual pastries.

I’ve been reading and reading, and I just have to jump in here.
Now, the Absum superfans are probably going to absolutely bury me for this, but here’s my honest take... My experience with them was, frankly, pretty industrial.
Sure, they put together a decent variety, but the pastries were massive, and in at least four of them, I tasted the exact same frosting. To me, that’s 👎I thought, okay, maybe it was just a fluke, so I grabbed more—but it was even worse. The crusts were separating and they definitely weren't fresh.
You get what you pay for. If you don't care about quality and just want a spread on the table without breaking the bank, then Absum is a solid choice. 🤷
Unfortunately, I'm still hunting for good treats, hoping to find a decent balance between price and quality. My go-to used to be that little shop "sweetie," and I was totally stressed out when I found out they closed down 😢
It’s frustrating because you either find stuff for $50$20(and everything I’ve tried at that price point was bad—not because of the cost, but because you can just TELL) or you're looking at $100–$130! Does anyone know of a middle ground? Somewhere with smaller pastries (not half-meter thick slabs!!!) that actually taste good and aren't $43???

Sean Long4 said:Look, they might not be your cup of tea, but they worked for me. A few other girls mentioned they could really taste the margarine in some of their cakes, but I lucked out—I didn't notice it at all...

They were incredibly kind to me, which was a huge factor in my decision. Honestly, after dealing with Charlotte and those "reasonable" prices of theirs, these guys actually made my day a little easier.

It doesn't matter, any recommendation helps, so I'll give them a shot and see. Either way, I'm not planning on paying more than $30/lb because anything over that just feels wrong to me.

I’m definitely going to give them a shot and let you guys know how they turn out!
And yeah, I am absolutely hitting that 220-pound goal before the wedding! 🙂

Sean Long4 said:At Emma, I actually got to sample their treats twice... and when I was picking out flavors for my cake, they gave me a little piece of every single one.

So, when it comes to Emma, I can say they’re absolutely top-tier.

And what about the price tag?

My whole family has such a massive sweet tooth, so I ended up grabbing a full kilogram every single time. I even stopped by Sweet Secret, $33/lb—their cookies are really tasty, though honestly, they aren't quite worth the extra $33! That said, I’ll probably pick up a cake from Sweet Secret for a friend's bachelorette party; their cakes are seriously incredible!

urbanowl10, you basically have to buy at least a pound of treats just to "test them out" at any bakery. There’s no such thing as just grabbing a few pieces. Instead, every week or two, I end up hitting up a different shop just to sample everything! 🙂 And honestly, some of these places won't even talk to you unless you pre-order...
Daniel Smith8, maybe I just had terrible luck. I ordered everything right around Easter, so maybe they were just slammed, but the flavor wasn't even the main issue—it's just that I'm really picky about this stuff. I’d kill for the ones from Meli, but I know they aren't going to be under $100$40/lb, and I just can't justify paying double for sweets. I'd much rather get something more affordable and just pass the leftovers around after the wedding...
The more I talk to my friends, the more it seems like the best move is to get the desserts (and everything else!!!) from outside Washington, D.C. Everything is cheaper and actually tastes better because people actually put in the effort. ☕

I hope Daniel Smith8 won't be mad at me, but I finally tried the treats from both Absom and Mus, and honestly... I wasn't a fan of either one.🤷
Absom feels like a total factory operation—they just use five different creams to make five "different" kinds of pastries. And Mus? Such a letdown. I actually sent my little one there specifically to pick up some sweets, and... man, you could just taste the granulated sugar in so many of them. It was crunchy under your teeth. Plus, none of the pastries were consistent; they all had different heights and widths, and the crusts were falling apart on some of them. 😢
Maybe I’m just being difficult, but seriously, am I crazy for paying $40 per pound 😲 for something that, frankly, isn't even that much better than the stuff you get for $18? Should I be obsessing over every tiny detail (because, let's face it, that's just who I am!), or should I just pay $18 since most people aren't even going to look at the dessert table at a wedding anyway?
I've basically been on a mission to attack every bakery in town looking for the perfect wedding treats, and at this rate, I'm going to gain 100 pounds before the big day!🙂
