slyotter said:Fixed, now I just need to pick a photographer. I honestly can't decide between California Photo or Papaya. I see most of you guys here are leaning towards Papaya, but man, this is such a tough call for me.
I’d really appreciate any advice you all have 🙂

A friend of mine used Photo California once. They promised her she'd have her photos within a month, but she ended up waiting for two... and the thank-you gifts they gave her were pretty underwhelming. Honestly, I didn't even realize they had been nominated for the featured shot in the tight selection...
My recommendation goes to Papaya. The shots feel incredibly spontaneous; as you scroll through them, you get this genuine sense of being right there in the middle of the crowd
and even though they aren't your own photos and have nothing to do with you personally, there is a certain enjoyment in just looking at them.
You see people caught in motion, mid-dance... watching them, I can almost feel the atmosphere from that wedding.
That’s really all there is to say about the photography, and the cameraman is a class of his own. A true legend.
The guys are excellent, and I suppose you shouldn't bother chasing after the top-tier pros!
Hannah Ortiz5 said:I’m on the hunt for a photographer and videographer around the San Francisco area—though if I’m being honest, the video side is my top priority right now. If you have any solid recommendations, please shoot me a DM 😉 with some rough price estimates so I know what I'm looking at. Also, we haven't pulled the trigger on a band yet, so if anyone has a killer suggestion...

If I were in your shoes, I might suggest Papaya for photography; their work was quite impressive, and they actually include a videographer in their packages, which I suppose is a rare find 😁. They are based out of Miami, but I imagine they would travel to San Francisco for you. You should be able to find them on Facebook under Papaya Studio or something similar
.
As far as music goes, you might want to look into the band Uber (taxibend.com); in my opinion, those guys are simply the best 😁

I've got a decent offer from them—fixed price for food, though drinks are extra based on consumption.

They're claiming it's around $50-$23 per person, according to the hotel staff.
Does that sound realistic or is it a total joke? Seems a bit low to me...

You might have misheard them... wasn't it more like $50-$70?
What could you possibly get for $50-$23? A slice of deli meat?
I don't know, the price seems off to me.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that you can find them on YouTube... you know, those videos from the wedding...

Taxi Band—these guys are actually great. They don't play that typical country stuff; they cover pretty much everything else you might want, including international hits. There are five of them, and they can bring along a female vocalist if needed. My personal recommendation.
darksailor2 said:Hmm... if the hotel were actually in the heart of the city, maybe I'd think differently. I might pay that much for a Ritz-Carlton, maybe, since they have a summer terrace, a pool, and an ocean view—but I wouldn't pay extra just for the view. For me, the food has to be good, the space needs to be decent, and I need a solid band to keep the crowd moving. I went to a party earlier this year that I had high hopes for; it was right by the coast, you could practically jump into the ocean if you wanted... it was a total letdown. A complete disaster. 🤷

A private garage isn't exactly a selling point for me! 😁 I'd rather head to Target than a crowded garage where I feel like I'm suffocating! 🤷

Almost every hotel offers a honeymoon suite anyway. My guy once asked if we wanted to spend our first night after the wedding in some overpriced hotel. But what's the point? I'll be crashing at 6 AM and waking up by 10 AM at the latest because Sunday lunch with the family is non-negotiable. In those four hours, I'm not planning on sipping Champagne or eating caviar or anything else... I'm planning on passing out in bed.

There are pros and cons, but honestly, I think the price at the Atrium is a bit steep. 🤷 I don't know, I hope your wedding turns out beautiful and perfect, and that you and your guests have a great time. Either way, I wish you the best. 😉

The problem is, this is already a reduced guest count! I'll invite more, but I'm counting on not having all 230 people show up. That's why I'm saying 200! 😁
Honestly, the Pirate's is a fantastic venue, and the food is incredible... I once had sea bass in Champagne there! 🙂Man, that sounds incredible!
The service is top-notch, the patio is awesome—we could have hung out outside forever! And that chocolate fountain... 🙏
I am just a little worried about it getting too crowded, though. 🤷 I really think we need to see what the ballroom actually looks like with 200 seats. Every venue I've seen that holds 200 people feels way bigger than this!

Oh, one more thing! Is it $42 regardless of what you pick? 🤔
And if there’s food left over, do they pack it up for you to take home?

thanks for the kind wishes.
Look, details make the difference. If one cannot perceive the details, one cannot truly see the difference. If I were to begin explaining to you how much it matters to me that the carpet is a certain way, or that I require WMF cutlery, or crystal glassware, or how I care about the fabric of seat covers—how I prefer upholstery that doesn't feel cheap, or how I dislike dry-painted walls, or how much I value that red carpet leading from the hotel entrance to the ballroom, or even how much it matters to me that the person I am negotiating with is someone I can trust... plus excellent food and service... perhaps this sounds trivial to some. However, everything carries its own price and its own clientele. For me, discussing the cost is somewhat questionable because banquet halls and hotels simply aren't comparable. It is akin to comparing a long-sleeved shirt to a tank top. Both are shirts, but there are differences; one uses more material and its execution is more expensive, while the other is cheaper, and that is that. It stands to reason that someone seeking a more formal affair will choose a hotel, whereas someone looking for a budget option will seek out rental halls, and that is all. One cannot simply claim a hotel is expensive; in my view, it isn't expensive considering what it provides.

By the way, the garage isn't at Joker; it's underneath the hotel.

And regarding those pirate-themed parties, I attended an event about three years ago when the generator kicked in and we were without power for an hour or so... the AC was terrible, the room was shaped like an L, and those at the bottom couldn't see a thing happening up front. The floor tiles were wet, which eventually turned into a muddy mess. In my opinion, it was quite poor, but perhaps that is what someone wants and they will happily pay 40 bucks for it. I am not wealthy enough to purchase cheap things. Good luck.
darksailor2 said:$20 A salad bowl from Hobie? 🙄 That's way too much!
And that doesn't even include a drink! I guess that's just overkill for me. 😁

Well, look, I suppose it all comes down to personal taste. The Atrium is right in downtown, it's a five-star hotel, they have private parking, and they offer honeymoon suites...
It seems somewhat misguided to compare a hotel to a banquet hall; the differences are fairly obvious, I think.
darksailor2 said:I don't get these massive price gaps. 😲
What's the actual difference between paying 290 and 620? And what does a standard menu even cost? 😁

The menus vary and the prices reflect that, depending on individual preferences, I suppose. The $29 option includes ham, cheese, French onion soup, beef stew, beef consommé, lamb or pork, and a salad.
The next tier is $35, which adds a Cobb salad to that list. Then at $42, you get everything plus carpaccio or sea bream, maybe some truffle fusilli, and so on. That covers the dinner menu, excluding pizza.
darksailor2 said:Can you please tell me how much that chair in the atrium costs? 😁

I haven't seen anything from meli2 lately. Maybe they're just staying quiet. says:
Just wanted to jump in here... so, when exactly are you getting married? (password: pralines) 😂)

🤣
Stop lurking around. 🙂
Maybe next year! 😬 I guess if I actually make some decent pralines, she might just decide to claim me. 🤣

I heard they switched owners about three months ago and did a total overhaul. I think they even changed the name, but I haven't actually checked. 🤣

I don't know. Maybe it’s just me, but I can't get behind this. It feels off. I guess I'm just looking for something a bit more substantial here. says:
Here’s my take on what you should get for the lounge:
"Kaštil slanica" over at Radmanov's mills... it holds up to 240 people, sits right on the banks of the Mississippi, and the food is actually great. It doesn't get much more romantic than that, I guess. I'm getting married there in a month. Here's the link: I can't make sense of this link. It looks like some broken URL leading to a dead end on a website that doesn't exist anymore. I guess it's just a junk link, maybe? I don't see anything here worth reading.

Wait, isn't the limit there only 200 people? 🤔

thanks for the detailed breakdown 🙏
just one question: how much did you end up paying per person since you customized the menu? And what exactly was on it? Was it just the standard stuff with the pork and veal, or did you change more than that? 😁

The menu prices range from $97 -$207, plus drink packages are available at 140, 185, and $75
. I believe their spirits are only served during the welcome reception before everyone enters the main hall.
As for cakes and desserts, you're expected to bring your own, though they do need to have an official vendor certification.

If there is anything else you might need, I suppose I am available to help. 🙂

Two flavors should be plenty—maybe something chocolatey and then something light and fruity.
Where can I find some photos of their cakes?

You're lucky if your partner covers everything, though I suppose he's lucky too.😍😍😍
Search for them on Facebook; try typing in Creme de la Creme (if I recall correctly, they’re probably the only ones without an accent in their name).
So, what you're saying is chocolate on the bottom and something light on top—I think that sounds like a good plan.☕
I have never actually been to Phoenix myself, though I have heard nothing but great things about them. From what I gather, they seem to offer more variety, the pantry selection is supposedly excellent, and the service from the staff is... well, top-notch.
Moreover, if my understanding is correct, their pricing is quite a bit lower than the average downtown spot.

What are your thoughts on florists? Is it a good idea to go with Jack? I had assumed he was a true professional, but honestly, a few bouquets I've received from him lately haven't been up to par. The stems aren't even cut to a consistent length, so some of the flowers don't even reach the water, and then the whole arrangement wilts within a day or so despite the hefty price tag. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable florist?

rowdyjackal922 said:It isn't as if the servers are going to poll the guests about their flavor preferences. They just serve the courses in order.
And $500 regarding the decor 🙂🙂
For $1500, you could probably get a cake for 300 guests made entirely out of hazelnuts, and even then, the venue still walks away with a fifty-fifty split on the profit.😍

Well, I suppose you could certainly get a cake for 2,000 people, but it really comes down to what someone wants... it’s all a matter of taste, and as they say, there's no arguing with personal preference.😁

Nathan Cox25 said:We went looking for variety—could have just stuck to one. There were more slices than guests, so people could easily grab a second piece. We ended up with almost an entire bottom tier left over after the reception. Honestly, the cake was delicious; the decorations aren't the main event. I get why brides obsess over fancy frosting and sugar flowers, but the guests don't care about that—they just want it to taste good. If the flavor is off, all those extra decorations and the massive price tag you paid won't mean a thing.

Actually, the more I dwell on it, the more I find myself liking the idea of offering different flavors... Not everyone is going to love a single flavor profile, so providing a few options seems more sensible... plus, I doubt everyone is going to eat their fill, so some people will probably end up with a second slice anyway...

Linda Johnson15 said:The photo you posted shows fondant with buttercream swirls... there aren't any knife strokes in the frosting because there isn't any frosting used there. The only thing a "lesser" baker might mess up is leaving too many air bubbles in the filling... but if they know what they're doing, that won't happen.

From what I've seen online, their pastries are on par with something like Magnolia Bakery in NYC... but that doesn't make them wedding cake experts. There's a huge difference between a standard dessert and a wedding cake. Especially since they don't seem to know the technique for stacking tiered cakes. If they don't use separators, you run the risk of them stacking layers directly on top of each other, which means the bottom layer ends up full of margarine or, even worse, starts bulging out.

Ask them to show you photos of their actual wedding cakes and ask how they construct them. Especially if they aren't delivering it right at midnight, but rather having it sit in the restaurant until late.

Their representative explained all of that to me... including the dimensions for every single tier, and she sounded quite professional... I'm not sure if you've ever sampled anything from their shop or visited their facility, but if you have, then you know exactly what I mean. It’s essentially a small-scale production facility; they have their own training program and such... but regardless of all that, I noticed the white icing underneath that cream, and it was so perfectly smooth that it really sold me on them.🙂

Linda Johnson15 said:Not really... you could totally just do two layers of the same flavor... honestly, we just told the servers to list out all the available flavors so guests can pick what they actually want....

If you really want to, you can go with all layers being the same flavor...

But trust me, these decorations are pretty basic... so that $500 price tag feels way too high...

well, I've been to a few bakeries where the cakes were from places like Magnolia Bakery or Levain, and you could actually see the knife marks where they had spread the frosting or whatever it is they do. The glaze wasn't perfectly smooth, and since I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I tend to notice when things aren't millimeter-perfect. To be fair, nothing from Cheesecake Factory has ever let me down; their cakes are great, I've tried everything in the shop, and they're my most reliable bet. As for the pricing at other spots, I asked around because I wasn't entirely sure how they usually structure things. I realize the cost might not be the most pleasant part of the conversation, but what can I say? That's just how I am—I notice every little flaw.
and that idea about the flavors, having the server ask what everyone wants, sounds like a wonderful notion to me!

Nathan Cox25 said:That’s way over the top—just our two cents. ☕ Ours was under $667 for a group of 150, and honestly, it was classy. We had people sample all four flavors, and everyone loved it... plus, we got to pick any decoration we wanted at no extra charge. People say you can't just DIY this kind of thing; you need actual wedding cake pros.

I suppose there isn't much point in requesting a different flavor for every single tier if everyone is only getting one slice anyway, right?
