Wedding cakes and desserts

I’ve been looking into the bakery scene over in Des Moines lately. We’ve hit up a few spots already, and so far, the most budget-friendly option has been Appalachia, though their business seems to have taken a real hit over the last couple of years... unlike some of the other local shops, such as the ones out in The Bayou, they barely seem to get any wedding bookings at all. I can't help but wonder if their quality has actually slipped, or if there's some other reason for the decline...
