2 George Barrett35 - they live at the same address, and apparently that's why it's being flagged. At least, that's what the folks over at Chase said.

Whoa, hold up. You guys are looking at this all wrong. Her cousin is currently in a legal battle with her employer, which is why those accounts got frozen. It’s got absolutely nothing to do with my girlfriend. The only connection is that she held the Power of Attorney back then, but she actually handed that card back to the bank about two years before any of this went down due to a court injunction. She hasn't touched it since.

So, no, the bank isn't hunting her down or anything.

Look, even if she did, having Power of Attorney doesn't make her a co-defendant in this mess. So what if she used those connections? It's not her account. She isn't being sued, she isn't even mentioned in the filings, and she's basically out of the picture entirely.

So, my girlfriend went to Chase to apply for a loan. The monthly payment would be about a quarter of her paycheck. She’s been at her job for 7 months now—it’s a small private company—and she has a co-signer working for a government agency making about 9 times the monthly installment amount.

The loan is for $5,000 over 5 years, so the monthly payment is roughly $250
.
All good so far. They told us at Chase that if the co-signer works for the government, you're basically cleared immediately.

Then, out of nowhere, they hit us with a massive headache.

My girl has power of attorney on a family member's account. They live at the same address, but that person's account is currently frozen by the court. 🙂

Now the bank is insisting that this person clears their debt first—it's just a standard checking account—before they'll even look at the loan application again. 😁

I can't believe this. She isn't the co-signer, and she hasn't touched a cent from that account, but because they share an address and she has POA, the bank is claiming it's technically her debt too, according to unknown rules...

Any advice?

Paying off that debt is absolutely not happening.

P. S. I forgot to mention
They won't let her remove the power of attorney because the account is under a court order. 🙂
Basically, there's zero way to intervene here.
