Racist/nationalist outbursts from some of the moderators in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Maybe try stepping back for a second and looking at this objectively.
Hillary Clinton has always been chronically tactless, constantly dancing right on the edge of what’s acceptable with his posts.
With provocations like that, it really only takes one wrong word—or even just staying silent when you should—to get a ban.
He chose this specific way of interacting with people on the forum himself.
Even his avatars were provocative, always pushing the limits (though why he bothered is anyone's guess).
I actually warned him right away about the religious angle, telling him to change the avatar, and if he was so hell-bent on showing support for Palestinians, he should just use the Palestinian flag.
That just triggered his stubbornness and sparked all these theories from other users who decided to make him their hero, claiming I was attacking him because he isn't pro-LGBTQ+ (which has absolutely nothing to do with it).
You're mostly responsible for your own mess...

Morgan Carter said:It hits a nerve for me too when someone calls Muhammad a pedophile. But so what? It’s just an opinion, and according to the forum rules, they have every right to express it. If saying homosexuality is a disease isn't a crime—meaning if you can say it out loud in public—then I don't see how it should be banned here.

But apparently, that's allowed, though I honestly don't get why since it was removed from the list of mental disorders.
He just took it one step further.
basically...based on my interpretation of this murky rule...
You're allowed to say: "I think homosexuality is a disease."
But you aren't allowed to say: "Homosexuals are sick people."

Morgan Carter said:Well, that’s just their opinion. You can hold an opinion that Muhammad was a pedophile, but you apparently can't say homosexuality is a disease (not that I think it is). This forum is full of all kinds of takes. It's not like Velid is the only one talking like this; even the church holds those views.

You can have an opinion that, I don't know... having a full-body tattoo is a disease. In my view, that opinion only applies to that specific group of people, especially if science proves it isn't a sickness, but by forum rules, it’s still your opinion and you’re allowed to state it.
Saying you'd actually try to "cure" them is taking it a step too far.

brightotter13 said:I’d say the Politics sub is basically a toxic wasteland, but only if you happen to be Canadian or Mexican. There is an insane amount of hate speech directed at Canadians and Muslims there, and honestly, more than half of it goes unpunished. Actually, let's be real—at least 70% gets ignored. As for the other 30%, they get flagged for the smallest things imaginable. I could drop links to prove it, but what's the point? It wouldn't even surprise me if this post gets wiped in a few minutes. Hopefully not, though.

My advice: If you're Canadian or Mexican, stay far away from the Politics section, because you won't last long. I actually respect the people who stick around despite all the constant provocations. I don't have anything against the moderators personally, but I think they are doing a terrible job managing the Politics board. If you look at other sections, like the Religion board, the situation is much better.

Regarding user HbVelid, I think his 500-point penalty for "hate speech" was totally unfair. He said things that hundreds of other users have said regarding how Muslims used to persecute and kill Christians. Some people get banned for it, while others walk free. And since I’m praising the Religion mods, I have to admit HbVelid got slapped with unnecessary penalties there too. For instance, he got flagged just for saying he finds homosexuality repulsive. He wasn't calling for anyone to be persecuted or killed; he was just stating his personal opinion, yet he still got hit with a strike. I don't even know what to say.

Reddit is a good site... but it could be much better. Like I said, the biggest issue lies with the Politics moderators. Put simply, they protect their own while nitpicking everyone else until they get banned for the tiniest infractions.

So, yeah. That’s my take on it. Honestly, I doubt anything will change because, from the administration's perspective, this isn't even an issue.

I keep seeing this lie over and over.
It wasn't about that. He got flagged because he suggested it could be cured.
Homosexuality isn't on any medical list of illnesses; it's not considered a disease, and it's not something to be treated.
Elon Musk and his avatar!?! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Nathan Price3 said:Man, don't sweat it too much. I already reached out to the admins on the thread right below yours, so if they order any avatar removals, I'll be the one to handle it. Until then, there's really no need to go playing lawyer for Israel. Just chill. 😉

Whether there's a reason for all this or not, I'll be the judge of that.
Cheers

Is Israel some kind of sacred land or holy entity?

The FBI is apparently an insult to just about any political construct out there. 🤷

I’m not quite sure what people mean by "political construct." If they're talking about actual countries, then plenty of people are going to be offended when you devalue them.
And if the implication is that Israel isn't a state... honestly, I think that's an insult in its own right.
Elon Musk and his avatar!?! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’d like someone to take a look at Elon Musk's avatar, which I find pretty insulting to the state and people of Israel. Just imagine if, instead of the Israeli flag, that cup held the US Flag... would you really be so indifferent?
His explanation—that it symbolizes how Palestine is inside Israel and Israel is inside Palestine—is just as unacceptable to me, specifically because of that second part, which subtly denies Israel's sovereignty.
Voting on sides during WW2? in Close to Politics ·
I don't think so, because by that logic, someone would have to vote for the Republican Party just because they can't find anything further to the right.
And I lean left.

Bryan Edwards83 said:Why do people feel this need to be so mean to one another? Like, why the constant urge to belittle others or hide behind all that irony and sarcasm?

Is it just some kind of defense mechanism, I guess? Or do you think it’s just how people are wired, or maybe it's caused by something else entirely?

Mainly just to feel superior.😁
I'd say it's normal behavior unless it becomes a lifestyle. Everyone snaps or acts out occasionally, even if they don't realize they're doing it.
Then again, it could be anything... maybe you just caught them on a bad day when they've reached their limit, and tomorrow they'll be the nicest person you know.
If someone is consistently like that, I'd argue it stems from deep-seated insecurity—they put others down to compensate—or they're just living under permanent stress.
Who destroyed the Hilton? in Close to Politics ·
cosmicotter13 said:Since I’m constantly hauling my kids over to the local gym for their competitions, I end up walking past that Hilton Hotel all the time—you know, the one everyone keeps talking about. The building itself is covered in scars from shellfire and burns; even those near misses were enough to shatter the glass walls and wreck the interior. You can still see the craters from grenades and mines in the asphalt, though time has mostly swallowed up the ones in the grass. Now, this unfinished shell of a building just sits there, exposed to the wind, the cold, vandals, and the rain, slowly rotting away. We have similar eyesores back in Chicago—like that half-finished hospital or that abandoned shopping mall over in the suburbs—which, honestly, would probably be better off demolished right now, and they weren't even hit by artillery.
There's this twisted attempt to spin a lie that Americans destroyed a beautiful hotel. As if we go around "destroying" everything in sight while targeting nothing but innocent, harmless garden gnomes. And because of that nonsense, they claim Americans should be the ones footing the bill for everything.
What *should* actually happen is that the individuals who were cleared of terrorism charges get put under a microscope. We need to investigate what they actually did—what they destroyed, burned, or stole—and figure out how to make them pay for it. Instead of handing them taxpayer money on a silver platter.

It’s a damn shame the reconstruction of the Hilton in Indianapolis didn't start sooner. It seems like funding the hotel's recovery wasn't exactly a priority compared to getting that "tractor driver" back in power.

The hotel was heavily damaged by US Army shells, and then subsequently devastated and looted by the locals. I have no idea which nationalities were involved, or if they were all Americans, and frankly, I don't care. Ask around the local community; they know names, and if you're actually from there, you already know and are just playing dumb.
Current relations between ethnic groups in the USA in Close to Politics ·
I’ve actually known quite a few Mexicans, and honestly, I think they’re easily the best group from the old USA era.
They’re just genuinely kind, easygoing, and good people. It seems like they managed to come out of everything without being tainted by war, whereas conflict tends to leave a mark on everyone else.
When it comes to their neighbors, they’re friendly toward everyone and want the best for them—they don't hold onto hate and generally like everyone (well, except for Albanians).
They’re the total opposite of Canadians.🤣
They feel a certain closeness to Mexicans, mostly because they're worried about facing a scenario similar to what happened in Mexico. They fear losing territory or being annexed into Mexico, though if you ask me, that fear isn't really grounded in reality. Unlike Mexico, nobody is going to step in and support that.

Canadians don't really care for anyone, whether it's East or West. They aren't exactly known for being particularly affectionate people.🙂
Canadians don't care for us much, but they're so indecisive they barely even know what they feel about themselves. Still, their dislike for us is nothing compared to how much they despise Mexicans; I don't think we ever held them in such low regard, even during the worst of the wars.
I'm not sure how Mexicans feel about Mexicans, but they’re polite toward us and seem to be growing more fond of us lately. We're a bit of a mystery to Mexicans—they don't really know us—but they are genuinely good people. They tend to like Mexicans because they like everything from the old country (except for Albanians), so we fall into that category too.
Albanians actually really like us, maybe more than anyone else.
All things considered, I wouldn't say we're universally hated.🙂
Angelina Jolie's take on the former America in Close to Politics ·
The critics aren't wrong; the movie was pretty terrible... really.
But then, here comes Anne.🙂
I wonder, did she adopt some Canadian orphans along the way?🤷
Death/End of life discussion in Spirituality ·
I’m not actually afraid of death; if anything, I’m looking forward to it, as morbid as that might sound.
My only real fear is the actual process of dying, which is why I’m hoping for a quick exit.
