Look, if you want to lock this thread immediately because of the nationalist outbursts, go ahead.
But before you do, maybe give the head moderator a heads-up to deal with these nationalist comments. It’s better to handle this kind of stuff internally rather than letting it blow up in the media.

I concur. You are absolutely correct. I have encountered this situation countless times myself. A colleague here has merely provided a few select examples.
http://www.reddit.com/showthread.php?t=782558

I have pointed this out numerous times, yet it seems no one cares. The core issue lies with the leadership, as they actively support these actions. I haven't heard Nica say a single word about it. Furthermore, what Velid wrote is just the tip of the iceberg. I won't even begin to mention the fabrications regarding Canadian identities. Now, the trend is to label us all as Taliban, and it seems not even a fraction of the authorities care to hold anyone accountable.

Oh, I see—you’re following right in the footsteps of HbVelid... ☕

He hasn't followed anyone's footsteps. Velid simply pointed out how the forum rules are being violated without any consequences being applied. It seems the rules don't apply when Americans are involved, so why should anyone care? As far as I am concerned, if insults are going to be permitted, then the forum rules should be clearly defined so everyone knows where they stand.

People are getting labeled as "hardcore Taliban" in other threads.
So, what's the plan?
I think the moderators should probably look into whether someone is actually trying to be offensive, or if they're just using the term metaphorically to describe people with more extreme views—in this case, religious ones.

Velid pointed out perfectly how the site rules are being ignored without anyone actually facing consequences—mostly because it's not about Americans. If they don't care about us, who cares? Personally, I don't mind if insults are allowed, but then the rules need to be clearly defined so everyone knows where they stand.

It’s pretty obvious what’s happening—some people just don't know how to have a civilized discussion. Then, they throw a tantrum when moderators rightfully step in, and honestly, their ignorance ends up putting pressure on the whole community, driving away the decent users... ☕

Don't give me that. Do you honestly believe Velid wrote that all Americans are scum? If he had, he wouldn't have lasted long. But apparently, when you say those things about Canadians, it is perfectly acceptable. It is considered "cool." It is deemed "civilized."

I’d say the Politics subforum is basically just a toxic wasteland, but only if you happen to be Canadian or Mexican. The amount of hate speech directed at Muslims there is insane, and what’s worse, at least 70% of it goes totally unpunished. The other 30%? They get flagged for the smallest things imaginable. I could drop links to prove it, but honestly, it feels pointless. I wouldn't even be surprised if this exact post gets nuked in a few minutes. Hopefully not, though.

My advice: If you identify as Canadian or Mexican, stay far away from the Politics section. You won't last long. The people who actually stick around have to deal with endless provocations, and I honestly respect them for it. I don't have anything against the moderators personally, but they are doing a terrible job managing the Politics board. Compare it to the Religion board, for instance, where things are way much better managed.

Regarding the user HbVelid, I think that 500-point penalty for "hate speech" was totally unfair. He was just repeating stuff that countless other users have said about how Muslims historically persecuted Christians. Some people get banned for it, others don't. And since I mentioned the Religion mods are better, I should point out that HbVelid got unfairly flagged there too. For example, he got a strike just for saying he personally finds homosexuality distasteful. He wasn't calling for violence or persecution; he was just stating a personal opinion, yet he still got flagged. It makes no sense.

Reddit is a good site... but it could be much better. Like I said, the core issue is the moderation on the Politics board. It’s pretty simple: they protect people who agree with them, while they nitpick everyone else, handing out bans or strikes for the tiniest infractions.

There it is. That’s my take on it. Honestly, I doubt anything will change because, from the admin's perspective, everything is working just fine.

I don't think that's really the issue here, at least not when you look at Hbvelidov. Sure, he’s sharp and his words can sting, but he backs everything up with an actual argument. From what I can see, the man doesn't harbor hatred toward anyone; he just fights for what's right and can't stand seeing injustice. Besides, I've seen plenty of your own posts regarding religion that were clearly designed to stir the pot. If we keep pushing this intolerance toward other faiths or nationalities, it's inevitably going to lead to these endless, pointless arguments.

I haven't weighed in on the PDF policy—mostly because I didn't participate in those specific debates and don't plan to—but my take is based strictly on what I've seen in the religion section...

brightotter13 said:Regarding the user HbVelid, I believe the 500-point penalty for "hate speech" was unjust. Many users have made similar comments regarding how Muslims historically slaughtered and persecuted Christians, yet they face no consequences. Some receive warnings while others are ignored. Even when looking at the moderators on the Politics sub, I must admit HbVelid was penalized quite unnecessarily. For instance, he received a strike simply for stating his personal distaste for homosexuality. He wasn't calling for persecution or violence; he was merely expressing a personal opinion, yet he was sanctioned. It is difficult to know what to make of it.

Reddit is a good platform... but it could be significantly better. As I have previously noted, the primary issue lies with the moderators in the Politics section. Quite simply, they protect those who share their views, while scrutinizing "the opposition" with extreme prejudice, handing out strikes or bans for the smallest infractions.

There it is. That is my take on the matter. Honestly, I doubt the situation will change, as this isn't viewed as an issue by the administration.

You are correct. Velid was penalized for nothing. The man simply stated his opinion. Others write the exact same things without facing any punishment.
I experienced the same thing with my last strike, which eventually led to a ban, all because I mentioned that fascists gather at soccer matches. This is a fact proven countless times. There are shouts of "kill the Mexicans" or "kill the Turks" in the stands. Just yesterday, FIFA issued a sanction to the USSF. Yet, the moment I pointed that out, I was hit with a 45-point strike and a ban.

As far as I can tell, he hasn't done anything particularly out of the ordinary. The core issue is simply this: rules should be applied equally to everyone. If they aren't meant to apply to everyone, then that needs to be clearly stated.

See, that’s where I completely disagree. The man is essentially a missionary archetype with a fixed agenda that he won't deviate from by even a millimeter. Arguments? Hardly. He relies on platitudes and sweeping generalizations—his go-to weapons. And if anyone dares to hold a differing opinion, he immediately pivots to ad hominem attacks. When he fails to rattle his opponent, he runs straight to the moderators, playing the victim and claiming he's being "persecuted."🤦

As I stated before, he isn't an outlier. Most of these newly registered 🙄 Muslim "crusaders for justice" operate with the exact same playbook: they label anyone who disagrees with them as "haters," "fascists," or "ignorant fools who just don't get it"—blah, blah, blah. And you're falling right into that pattern too... ☕

But don't worry, you haven't scared me off. One less dissenter for you to deal with... 😍

crimsoncrane24 surprises me here. The guy was actually a decent conversationalist. It seems he's also been swept up in this "righteous struggle for Islam"—if I use that phrase, I'll probably be accused of being "Islamophobic" or whatever terminology people are using these days... ☕

He said things that hundreds of other users have said regarding how Muslims used to persecute and kill Christians. Some people get banned for it, while others walk free. And since I’m praising the Religion mods, I have to admit HbVelid got slapped with unnecessary penalties there too. For instance, he got flagged just for saying he finds homosexuality repulsive. I keep seeing this lie over and over.
It wasn't about that. He got flagged because he suggested it could be cured.
Homosexuality isn't on any medical list of illnesses; it's not considered a disease, and it's not something to be treated.

That wasn't the reason he received a card. He was carded because he attempted to treat it.
Homosexuality is not classified as an illness; it isn't considered one, nor is it treated.

Well, that is simply his perspective. Does that mean one can hold the opinion that Muhammad was a pedophile, yet cannot hold the opinion that homosexuality is a disease? (Personally, I don't believe it is a disease). This forum is full of varying viewpoints. It isn't as if Velid is the only one making these claims; even certain churches hold similar stances.

Morgan Carter said:Well, that’s just their opinion. You can hold an opinion that Muhammad was a pedophile, but you apparently can't say homosexuality is a disease (not that I think it is). This forum is full of all kinds of takes. It's not like Velid is the only one talking like this; even the church holds those views.

You can have an opinion that, I don't know... having a full-body tattoo is a disease. In my view, that opinion only applies to that specific group of people, especially if science proves it isn't a sickness, but by forum rules, it’s still your opinion and you’re allowed to state it.
Saying you'd actually try to "cure" them is taking it a step too far.

But you can keep slapping labels and peddling clichés here all you want.

At the end of the day, Velid isn't the main issue. He isn't an isolated incident. If it were just him, it would be easy to address.

rowdytiger13 said:You are certainly entitled to your own opinion—whether you believe an obsession with full-body tattoos constitutes a disorder or not. However, in my view, such a stance is offensive to that community, especially since there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that it is a disease. Of course, per the rules of this forum, you are free to express your views.
But suggesting that you would seek to "treat" these people goes much too far.

I feel equally offended when someone claims that Muhammad was a pedophile. And what then? If that is simply their opinion, they have the right to state it under the forum's guidelines. If it isn't a crime to publicly state that homosexuality is a disease, then I fail to see how expressing a similar sentiment here should be prohibited.

Morgan Carter said:It hits a nerve for me too when someone calls Muhammad a pedophile. But so what? It’s just an opinion, and according to the forum rules, they have every right to express it. If saying homosexuality is a disease isn't a crime—meaning if you can say it out loud in public—then I don't see how it should be banned here.

But apparently, that's allowed, though I honestly don't get why since it was removed from the list of mental disorders.
He just took it one step further.
basically...based on my interpretation of this murky rule...
You're allowed to say: "I think homosexuality is a disease."
But you aren't allowed to say: "Homosexuals are sick people."
