Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·

Ukraine isn't going to join, just like Stalin wasn't going to drop the nuke.
Essentially, Ukraine won't be joining while they're still at war. It’s obvious to Zelenska, too; it serves as a symbolic rebuttal to Stalin's equally pointless attempt at an Anschluss.

Exactly. I can't speak for India, but China definitely isn't.
The most significant markets for China are clearly in the West.
I'm pretty sure the Chinese CEO is already pulling his hair out. You could see it during that summit of dictators—he was going out of his way to avoid him.
The formal pleasantries are mostly just a result of the CEO playing nice. He knows he's in deep trouble, not just a bit of trouble, if China decides to screw him over.

They aren't allies; they're just trading partners.
True allies are the countries in NATO, because they’ve actually committed to defending one another militarily.
Russia doesn't have allies. It just has a colony, sort of like Belarus.

Russia just vetoed that UN resolution condemning their annexation of the Ukrainian territories. Honestly? It’s totally predictable and follows the script perfectly.

China held back, and India did too. Maybe this finally serves as a wake-up call for the West so they realize India isn't exactly riding with us—they were more aligned with the USSR back during the Hadan War.

At least the masks are finally coming off. They've shown that all that talk about respecting "Ukraine's territorial integrity" is nothing but hot air. Now, when people claim the West is being dishonest, they can point to this and say these supposed beacons of "truth" aren't so bright after all. 🤦

Now I can finally shut down those arguments about how Taiwan doesn't have the right to self-determination or all that "one China" nonsense.

What masks?
Putin views China and India as his most significant allies. If they're staying neutral, it actually just proves he doesn't really have any true allies.

Blinken claims the US is taking Putin's threats seriously, yet they haven't seen a single move suggesting he actually intends to go nuclear.
In other words... it's just barking for the domestic audience. All that cringe we saw yesterday was exactly that. Outside of Russia, nobody is actually sweating his rhetoric—not even the dictators he hangs out with. Now, they’re just leaving him hanging.

Jason Fox2 said:I get why people felt forced to show up to this rally, whether they wanted to or not, but honestly, it feels like the whole country is just used to this kind of thing by now—there’s basically zero internal pushback left. Anyone who actually disagrees has probably already fled, leaving behind a huge group of people who just don't care, plus plenty of folks who genuinely buy into whatever Putin is feeding them. It’s pretty scary because it feels like this nation, and even the next few generations, might be beyond help if they keep turning into a massive version of North Korea through all this indoctrination. Pretty soon, their economy will probably be just as stagnant, too. We really need to push them out of Ukraine as fast as possible, stop making aggressive moves across old borders, and then just isolate them for a few decades. They can just stay over there and enjoy being completely self-contained.

Roughly speaking.
There's no point in picking a fight with them. That would be counterproductive and, frankly, wrong. Just leave them alone, but isolate them since they remain a legitimate threat.

The award for the year's most effective NATO salesman goes to Vladimir Putin. 🤣

It’s also quite fitting when he says, "Now, those who claimed eight years ago that Putin only wanted Crimea, are feeling pretty wise, aren't they?" 😁

The prelude is something else 🤣🤣

Russia is going to call for a UN Security Council meeting regarding the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline. 🙏🙏

Unpopular opinion...
I’m just waiting for some heroine from the American media to drop a subtle hint that we might actually be worthy of being called Americans, because I’m sitting here reading these exhaustive explanations of why the Russians are the way they are. Fine, I get it. Go jump in a lake.
And yes... I am pro-Europe and a huge fan of how Americans handle conflicts.

Timothy Williams5 said:Things are getting pretty tense over in the States regarding the gas pipelines

American gas supplies are likely the single biggest target for sabotage in all of Europe right now.

- We are currently dealing with a massive war in Europe. Given the circumstances, the gas supply from Norway is probably the most significant strategic target for sabotage on the entire continent, according to Lieutenant Colonel and researcher at the Norwegian Defense Academy, Geir Hågen Karlsen, speaking to NBC.

If Russia is pulling the strings here, Karlsen doesn't believe it's a coincidence that these pipeline explosions are hitting at the exact same time Norway is launching a new pipeline connecting Norway to Poland.

- I believe this threat needs to be taken extremely seriously. If such an event were to occur, we would be looking at a very grave escalation of the conflict.

Sure, if you follow the theory that the Norwegian pipeline was the actual target.
Which implies they actually managed to puncture the line or whatever.🤣
Or, more likely, it was just a warning—though you don't really send a "warning" by blowing up someone else's infrastructure.
Who knows.

Since when did NS1 and NS2 suddenly become "strategic projects" again?

They were.
Before the invasion.
Not anymore. The whole strategy now is just moving away from Russian energy entirely.

says:
It feels like classic American cowboy energy to me—that whole "screw the European Union" vibe coming from Victoria Nuland.

They love making threats, even if they aren't quite as subtle as Russia. Honestly, we dealt with constant, blunt blackmail and intimidation back during our own Civil War.

You pointed to the far-right victory in Italy as a reason, but those guys still need that European Union money, and she’s already said she supports the sanctions. Once she actually takes office, she'll probably just tone down the rhetoric, at least where necessary to keep the funding flowing.
Only countries that basically bankroll the funds, like the UK, can afford to act tough. Everyone else can talk big until their wallets get frozen.
So... it doesn't really mean anything, and it's definitely not enough reason for the US to start running sabotage operations.
Sure, he gets under their skin... that's true. But would they really take him out just for that? I wouldn't bet on it.
The whole thing is pretty strange because neither side seems to have a rock-solid motive.

Nancy Gomez26 said:My own view is that the U.S. was the primary force behind ensuring that gas simply wouldn't flow through the completed NS2. I suspect that was one of the main triggers for Putin deciding to invade Ukraine—he realized he was becoming dependent on someone else's "goodwill," so he decided to raise the stakes in what looked like a viable "operation" at the time. If the Americans can control gas flows through mere bureaucratic pressure (and in that case, they can also ease that pressure if the opportunity arises), it becomes a massive political lever in their hands. Perhaps his internal circle sent him a "message" suggesting it would be wise to open the valves before winter to show "goodwill"—letting the gas flow instead of letting it burn off uselessly—to normalize things. Instead, he preempted them by ordering the pipeline to be sabotaged, effectively stripping them of that leverage.

There you go... that theory, along with several others used to blame the Russians, seems entirely plausible to me.

dustyfalcon122 said:The whole point is that, up until now, there hasn't been any covert sabotage like this during this war. This would be a total first.
If they wanted to get involved in the conflict, they could have done it openly through other means, which I honestly believe they would have announced beforehand. Secret operations are risky; if you get caught, the backfire is massive—something they've learned the hard way enough times to know. That’s why they stay public in this war.
Covert sabotage? That's the Russians' playbook, especially in a country that's falling apart where one agency has no idea what the other is doing or why.

Well, there are plenty of theories floating around. That new Baltic gas pipeline is right there. Maybe it was the target all along, and it was definitely the Russians.
It's suspiciously quiet, and the media keeps pushing this theory that the Americans blew it up just to tip off the Germans. Personally, it sounds like a weak theory that smells a bit too much like Russian disinformation.
By the way, Germany isn't sweating it. They've already filled their storage tanks to 90%.

Zakharov is calling this a terrorist attack.
She’s just quoting Radek—who’s already been quoted here—to cast doubt, though they'll inevitably try to pin the blame on the USA.
If they hadn't lied so many times before, maybe anyone would actually be listening now.

The Germans are going to need a few consecutive winters before they hit the level of misery seen in Eritrea.
