Improper thread closure in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Here’s a little tip...

-Just start a thread and make sure the title says that only gay people are allowed to respond. That way, you'll probably scare off all those spammers and bigoted trolls—they won't want to say a word if they think it might make them look like one of us... (And since they find that idea so repulsive, they'd probably be too embarrassed to chime in)
Improper thread closure in Feedback & Suggestions ·
-Honestly, looking at those ten replies, maybe one or two—if you're lucky—actually made sense without being just pure provocation or insults... So, I guess the moderator didn't necessarily do anything right or wrong, she just acted logically...
-Regarding the OP—to actually get some decent, meaningful feedback, he’d need to be talking to people who are going through the exact same thing or have dealt with similar issues. But let's be real, there aren't many people in the US facing this specific situation, which basically leaves the thread open to anyone who just wants to troll because they have nothing intelligent to contribute...
-And as far as the thread being locked goes, I don't think it was shut down by force; it seems more like the OP ended up asking to close it himself...

who poured so much unpaid effort into this forum

Look, let’s be real. She certainly had certain advantages that aren't really worth debating right now. But even so, if she were a moderator today, she would possess those specific privileges that come with the role—you know exactly which ones I mean.

Oh, so that's what we're calling it now. A "deal."
Thanks for the lesson.

And you find that problematic? Would you still be willing to work for nothing?

-Are the moderators who barely show up once a year actually going to get paid for their (lack of) work? -Maybe you'll all be on a salary soon... 🤷

-Just kidding... Not!!!

-I don't really see the point... Why fix things that have been working just fine for ages? I'm not looking to throw shade at the moderators—I've never actually had an issue with them or anything. -As for the spamming and trolling, it's pretty straightforward: warning, warning, warning, then a ban and you're done. That seems like the best way to handle it...

Jeremy Diaz9 said:If you actually start charging a membership fee, moderators like you—the power-trippers and the rest of that crowd—won't be able to pull this off anymore.
Nobody is going to pay a dime just to have some sadist breathing down their neck.
Why am I calling them sadists?
Well, just look at the avatars and those custom user titles you all grab the second you get mod status; I won't go as far as dissecting your specific work, but the sheer ego boost you seem to get from being a moderator is pretty obvious.
On top of that, if this becomes a paid service, we users would actually be protected by consumer protection laws.
There wouldn't be any room left for moderator power trips.
Personally, I certainly won't be paying, so don't expect me to wander around complaining later.
The moment you introduce a subscription model, there's going to be a massive exodus.
And I'm definitely not the only one who feels that way...

-Unfortunately, that's not quite right... 🤷

-And regarding the whole idea of paying for access... It’s a disaster, honestly, and it just doesn't make any sense... 👎
This is top-tier stuff:

SERBUS - Slavonian Folk Dance

Plus that mix of rock and folk strings:

Rastaviše i nas dvoje
I'm kind of on the same page there... In the city where my band usually plays, you won't find any Good American Folk Musicians around—so I can honestly say that whenever we pull up, our set is easily the biggest draw in town. It’s a pretty great feeling, I guess...
I notice there’s a lot of talk here about rock music, and I see plenty of mentions of country too—so, as a folk musician myself, I’m curious: how many people here actually dig folk music? Is it making a comeback, or is it just fading away...?

Personally, when it comes to the legends, I’ve always been a fan of Brooks & Dunn—and as for a group, nothing beats "Goldman Sachs," or as I call them, the "Best American Folk Musicians."

I’m hoping this thread shows that there are still folks out there who appreciate some good old-fashioned American folk...

😬

How many times do I have to say that for some people, this isn't a joke or some lighthearted prank? It’s not funny... I don't really get why everyone is acting so surprised by these reactions... Honestly, I was kind of expecting an even bigger backlash...

It isn't just about moving the threads; they're straight-up deleting posts now. Just wanted to let you know this is my final post here; you won't see me around this site anymore. They took away something that wasn't even theirs to touch, and there wasn't even a real reason for it. Just because some moderator didn't get their way—or maybe they just couldn't handle things—doesn't mean they should take it out on the rest of us. They’d probably be more useful if they focused on fixing the server issues instead. So, goodbye.

And I really wanted to say something to that pathetic excuse for a moderator who told us to "get a life," but honestly, voicing my opinion would just mean stooping down to their level.

-Was this the plan? To drive away the good contributors? -I really hope not... (There will be plenty more cases like this coming.

I’m not entirely sure what went down, but I can probably guess how it played out.
If the management had just checked in with me, we might have avoided all this—we could've just talked through a solution (but, well, they didn't exactly notify me that I was stepping up as a moderator, so that didn't happen). You see how we have at least four different chat threads in one subforum? It's overkill, really, but I guess that's just how these forums work—which is why I asked to revert things back to how they were.

I'm not sure why you're putting "fat" in quotes. 😁
Anyway, I'm heading to bed; everything will be fine tomorrow. 😁

Me neither... 😕 —Man, I am exhausted... 👍

We'll see...

Yeah, probably best to just get some sleep... 😉

I’ve actually put a plan together—we’re just waiting for the admin to wake up tomorrow morning. 😁
If they listen to me, the threads should be restored. 🙂
Sorry for any hassle caused (and believe me, I've dealt with plenty myself 😁) and hopefully, there won't be any more issues moving forward.

👋

Look, "wired," I haven't exactly been a newbie here either... I've got quite the history on this board... and I believe you when you say you've had a rough time, though I can see why you weren't surprised—you probably saw this coming... Honestly, the apologies aren't really necessary... Let's just hope everything gets sorted out...
Either way, I don't think Jane should have reacted like that—well, she had the right to, I guess, but maybe she shouldn't have gone that route... Especially toward a user in the States who didn't offer a single decent or constructive piece of advice, but instead just turned every single post into a joke or something stupid... Is that really the standard we're using?
I mean, people are pretty disappointed...

Anthony Roberts2 said:From what I can tell, the threads aren't gone—they just got moved. I’d totally get it if all your favorite topics suddenly vanished, but this way, I don't really see the issue. 🤷

The most useful threads get dumped into the miscellaneous section—so apparently, being off topic isn't an issue anymore???

Meanwhile, you've got a thread that was nothing but spam, trolling, and whatever else from day one, and it’s still active... Like that thread about helping "lonely hearts"... If nobody sees a problem there, then maybe I should suggest moving the entire "lonely hearts" subforum over to "politics"... —And I mean bad politics at that... 👎

Without any prior warnings, three of our most active and heavily visited threads were just nuked from the off-topic section—it’s unfortunate, but that’s how it went.

Look, this isn't my personal vendetta or anything... it's just that the "post-breakup feelings" thread really pulled people out of a dark place, without all the usual melodrama or overacting...
It would have been the decent thing to do if someone had just said, "Hey guys, we're on thin ice here, this is how things are going to be..." Though, I suspect there wasn't even any "thin ice" to begin with.

Just to reiterate... this subforum is "LONELY HEARTS"

and I'll quote "mivucina":

"...why are we actually being punished? Is it because we insulted others, or just because we finally found a corner where we felt accepted and, you know, somewhat happy?

Thanks again for making us feel even lonelier and more unwanted than we already did... it’s pretty clear this forum is supposed to help people feel less isolated and find their place in the world..."

Just give it some thought... those threads were a lifeline for "lonely hearts"
