Is there any truth to the rumors about charging a fee just to be active on the forum anytime soon?

I mean, are we talking a monthly subscription $10 or something along those lines?

Is it actually true that creating an account is going to cost money?

Charging for accounts might actually curb the influx of clones 👍 but I really doubt we'll see anything like that happening anytime soon...

I honestly think it would be fair to give the moderators a little something extra for the massive job they do keeping this place running

Moderating an American forum like this? That’s the dream. Being a moderator... just being one of the inner circle and feeling like you actually have some skin in the game

Does this forum even have a political angle? Where does it stand? Is it leaning left or right, or who's actually backing it up?

People are wasting their lives here, hanging out in virtual spaces instead of actually tackling real-world problems out there in the real world.

This forum was supposed to be a counterweight to the establishment, but sooner or later, it just became part of the system itself.

Money, money, money—that’s basically the anthem of this place.

The second something starts gaining traction, the government immediately tries to get its hands on it.

If you’re facing actual struggles in life—real-world stuff—but choose to spend all your energy scrolling through the web and hanging out with "online buddies," honestly? That says way more about your own character than it does about this forum being a distraction. If anything, the site is a goldmine; there's so much useful info tucked away in those downloadable PDFs, while the chat itself is really just a tiny fraction of what's actually here.

I definitely have my share of life struggles, and I've made a lot of great friends on here, so that part is true. But like I mentioned a long time ago, I'd really love to step up and become a moderator on this board. Any chance you could put in a good word for me?

That’s going to be a tough ask from me, honestly, mostly because I haven't really spent enough time reading through your posts to know your style. My best advice? Reach out directly to the current mod team. Tell them exactly how you think you can help out and why you're interested in the role...
But man, seeking a distraction through work might actually be the exact opposite of what you need to deal with your current situation! 👍

I mean, look at someone like Miller over at Amazon—he’s banned there, but he’d be a fantastic moderator. He’d even work for free at first on a trial basis. I’d love to eventually work my way up to an admin position, or whatever you call the roles that come with a steady paycheck.

Moderation is strictly volunteer work here; not a single mod is on the payroll.

I don't think you quite grasp the situation here...
Every moderator started out as just another regular user on the board. They earned their stripes through their behavior and expertise, eventually stepping into a leadership role—more or less. For them, having actual authority is reward enough, which is clearly more than you can say for yourself...

As for the administrators, nobody is paying them either. This whole operation functions like a private enterprise—much like how CNN or even a major news outlet operates. You see all these advertisements? That's the revenue stream. It pays the bills, and for there to be ads, you need an audience...
