Brenda Collins59 said:So, I have my nose surgery scheduled for today—actually, it’s happening in just a few hours... and man, I am seriously freaking out. 😲 If I make it out of this alive, I'll be sure to circle back and give you all the play-by-play on how it went.🙂
You’ve already gone through two births, so this operation will be a total breeze. 😉😍
electricangler32 said:Everything was fixed up internally for me too. But man, my little guy just headbutted me right in the nose this morning 😢 It didn't start bleeding, but ouch—it really stung! Now I’ve got this feeling like my nose is drifting to the right again, though I'm still pretty swollen so I can't be certain. I won't know for sure until I see the doctor in the morning... if something actually shifted, is it possible they can just straighten it out now while it's still fresh, or am I just talking nonsense here?!
Honestly, go see the specialist who performed your Operation. I have a friend who took a heavy hit from a ball almost two years after her own surgery; it hurt like crazy for a second, and her septum ended up shifting. She waited three whole months before getting checked out, and she ended up needing a second surgery. The doctor told her that if she had come in immediately, they could have just used nasal tampons for a day and called it a day.
Laura James11 said:Hey there 🙂
I was wondering if anyone here is based in Miami and has worked with Dr. Cikojevic?
After a nose injury, I'm going to need surgery for a deviated septum. I just got my scan results back today, and it looks like I'll be on a waiting list for at least six months. Honestly, I don't mind the wait as long as everything turns out okay, but I'm trying to get a heads-up on what to expect. I've been scrolling through this thread for a bit, and frankly, the recovery part is what's really weighing on me right now. 🙂
If you dig through my old posts from last year, you'll see what I mean. He’s easily your best bet over at Firule Hospital. Good luck!
electricangler32 said:No way. Do you honestly think they're just sitting around waiting for someone to hand them a freebie and tell them there's an issue, and then they immediately jump to fix it?! 😂
Honestly, in my case, it turned out almost exactly like that. 😂
Alex Moore62 said:Whatever you do, don't blow your nose after the surgery. It's strictly off-limits—I think it’s at least a month, though I can't remember the exact timeframe, so definitely check with your surgeon.
Honestly, every specialist seems to have their own take on this. My doctor actually told me I could start blowing my nose very gently as soon as they took the packing out.
Honestly, I think it all just comes down to luck again.☕
Does anyone know when the pain from heavy nasal pressure finally lets up? It’s been 8 months since my surgery, and I’m still feeling it.
Chris Moore3 said:1. Pack your own toiletries and some tissues—it really depends on whether you're staying overnight at the clinic or heading straight home the next day.
2. I think we can all agree on one thing: don't go buying pills until a doctor actually prescribes them or gives you the green light. As for nasal sprays, based on my experience, just stick to a simple saline solution. It helps clear out the passages so you don't get crusty scabs and those stitches don't feel like they're pulling too tight while the mucosa recovers. Avoid anything like Afrin or those decongestant sprays; your nose is going to be stuffed up regardless until the tissue heals itself. If you rely on those sprays, you’ll just end up addicted to them, and then you won't be able to breathe normally without them, plus the relief is super temporary anyway.
3. You can eat pretty much whatever, but during those first few days when you still have the packing in your nose, you're basically trying to eat and breathe through the same tiny opening at once. My advice? Stick to soft foods and something light so you don't accidentally choke.
Anyway, I hope that helps a bit, though everyone's recovery is different, so maybe someone else has some tips to add!
One more thing:
Bring some straws with you. Trust me, tilting your head back to drink from a glass is a total nightmare. 😛
Also, grab a bunch of paper towels. (Personally, I used to dampen them or use sterile gauze soaked in water and breathe through that to help ease the discomfort.)
@restlesspanther42/">@
@restlesspanther42, I actually got kicked right out of the OR once because the anesthesiologist was being a complete nightmare. Hang in there. I know how much that kind of stuff messes with your nerves and stress levels.
casualbison3 said:How long did it take before you guys started wearing glasses again? Is three months enough of a wait, or what...? 🤷
Man, I’m right there with you on this one. It’s been about two and a half months since my surgery, and honestly, I’m still feeling the itch to just pop my glasses back on. 😢
Honestly, pulling out the Conan doesn't even hurt 😉
It’s such a massive relief once it's finally gone.
Kimberly Hughes17 said:Hey ladies, I was wondering if any of you have some insight here... will it be an issue if I'm on day 5 of my cycle on the day of my surgery? (It’s basically wrapping up). I didn't plan it this way, things just got a little thrown off schedule...
Thanks in advance
I actually had my surgery on day 5 of my cycle. I just used a light pad, and I told the staff that I was pretty much finished with it 😁 they didn't really check (at least not as far as I could tell🤷)
Nicole Ortiz34 said:I did... how is your nose doing?
Great, perfectly straight!
I really did try to warn you about how unhappy people get after surgery with that specific doctor 😢 I feel bad for you... have you gone in for your follow-up yet? We can always chat more privately in my inbox if you want. 😉
Grace Richardson44 said:Just a heads-up for the ladies on birth control: you actually have to stop taking them two weeks before surgery to lower the risk of an embolism. Nobody bothered to tell me that, so they just sent me home today and postponed my procedure.🙂 🙂 🙂
They postponed my surgery for the first time because of my pills, too. So, the second time around, I didn't even touch my Claritin for my allergies.🙂 You really have to watch out for stuff like this, even if all your other tests and labs come back perfectly fine.

Who’s performing the surgery?
@Nicole Ortiz34/">@
@Nicole Ortiz34, were you that girl I was chatting with on the day I was being discharged, right by the main entrance during my admission?
Austin Adams5 said:Maria Thompson4, I’m still not even sure which doctor I’ve been assigned yet... I actually had this weird dream that I was just wandering around my primary care physician's office looking at referrals. Now I have to deal with the whole headache of scheduling a formal appointment just to get the green light before they'll even consider the surgery. Such a process.
You should definitely aim to head in there on Thursday afternoon. Dr. Cikojević is working that shift, and honestly, he’s hands down the best when it comes to nose surgery. You won't find anyone more reliable.
Austin Adams5 said:Does the hospital have Wi-Fi? Because if they do, I’m definitely going to lose my mind from pure boredom after five days. I honestly don't know if I'll even be in any state to sit around and read a book... everyone keeps telling me how much it's going to hurt.
It doesn't really hurt... you might feel some discomfort eventually after the surgery, but they usually give you Voltaren. Honestly, just ask for it immediately.
I was on the waiting list for about five months... so yeah, just do the math on that one.
Anthony White3 said:Personally, I didn't feel any intense pain—more like just a bit of discomfort. Honestly, it might have just been the tampon.
Also. 👍
restlesspanther42 said:Did they have to take off your undershirt for nose surgery? I know usually you aren't supposed to, but I'm worried maybe they let someone slide on it 😁😁😁
They take it off immediately and cover you up with a sheet... You get an IV in your right hand, and on the left, they put that infusion pump thing 😁 and they tucked my left arm against my body, palm tucked into the bottom of my pajama top.
Austin Adams5 said:I've got to have a minor surgery coming up—basically, a deviated septum fix down in Miami. I'm looking for some insight here. My doctor mentioned I don't *have* to do it just yet, but he says it’s highly recommended. Apparently, there's a 5-day stay at the hospital afterward after the procedure :O
You actually posted a few times about my experience in Miami already. Which doctor are you seeing?
So, since I’ve spent quite a bit of time reading through everyone’s posts on this forum, I figured it was about time I shared my own recent experience. 🙂
I was admitted to the Mayo Clinic back on February 4th. However, because I had some heavy bleeding on the final day, they actually sent me home until Tuesday evening (Feb 5th) just to let things stabilize. Once I got back to the ward that same night, I realized the anesthesiologist had prescribed blood thinner injections in my abdomen to prevent any leg clotting or thrombosis before surgery. They started those immediately, and I kept getting them right up until discharge. The night before, they gave me some Apaurin to take orally—one dose at night and one in the morning. I was wheeled into the OR just before 2:00 PM, and by 3:10 PM, I was waking up on the way back to my room. Dr. Cikojević performed my septoplasty and removed the hump. They immediately put Voltaren in my IV. I didn't sleep a wink that first night, probably due to the incredibly dry air and the struggle of adjusting to breathing through my mouth. By the next day, the area around my eyes was so swollen and red I could barely see. I ended up getting two Solu-Medrol injections for that. Honestly, I didn't feel much pain afterward; the main thing is just the discomfort and that intense pressure in your nose from everything being packed inside. I’ve been taking Advil granules in the morning and evening just to take the edge off. On the fifth day after surgery, they removed the tampons and gauze. It doesn't hurt, but it is seriously uncomfortable. What actually hurt more was having the cast removed—it had basically glued itself to my face—and then having it put back on and feeling the nose being squeezed. 😲
I was discharged with strict orders to rinse my nose with Sterimar, which I’ve been mixing with saline, and to spray Gelositin in there three times a day. My follow-up appointment to get the cast removed and have the nose reshaped was on day eight (which wasn't painful at all).
I'm breathing so beautifully now! As soon as those tampons were out, I could blow my nose gently, and everything feels totally clear inside 👍. I still have some bruising and slight swelling, but I'm feeling better every single day...
Huge thanks and kudos to the doctor and the nursing staff on the ward 😍
Ed, also, my sense of smell is way more intense than it was before 👍

Anyway, send me a photo of the pier so I can see the hall! I can't find it online! 🤷 How many people does it hold? What's the price? 😁
"Out in the middle of nowhere"... what is that supposed to mean? ☕ 🙂
I'm keeping an eye on you, 😍
I'll shoot those over to you shortly. The upstairs room is a bit tighter—fits about 170 people—but the downstairs one is twice that size! Last year, they were charging $35 when they took deposits, though I haven't checked if they bumped up the rates this season.
By "beyond the hills," I meant Boise 🤣
just kidding, don't come for me!
Honestly, I think the venue is gorgeous. And the food was top-notch. You can tell the staff really puts their heart into it because, well, it's their livelihood. We could chat more on ☕ and I'll give you the full scoop. 🙂
@darksailor2, why wouldn't you just head down to San Diego via the freeway and hit up that lower hall in California? It’s not pricey, you aren't exactly "out in the middle of nowhere," the food and service are top-tier, and parking is a breeze. I actually checked everything out myself last Saturday 😁
Raymond Brooks7 said:I’m voting for Lucija too. She did my makeup once and I was beyond thrilled with the results.
She worked on me over two years ago, actually. Now I’m trying to track her down for my sister, but I’m stuck—did she change her number? I’ve tried calling a few times, but I can't get anyone to pick up. 😢
clara85 As specified by:
Does anyone else have any clue when this makeup artist, Lucy Smith, is actually going to show up? I tried giving her a call to hammer out the details for my wedding makeup, but honestly, it felt a little awkward to keep chasing her down.🙂)
Man, if you ask me, I’m thinking it’s closer to 170.$60 Honestly, she’s only been doing my makeup for about fifteen months now. It's funny how quickly that happens—one minute you're just figuring things out, and the next, you've got a routine.
