Throat swab / Throat culture in Health ·
So, I went in to get a throat swab done last Friday, mostly because I’ve been dealing with these three really intense bouts of strep-like throat inflammation over the last two or three months... and well, I was expecting the results to be ready by today, since it’s been seven days now. The nurse mentioned that it usually takes somewhere between seven to ten days, which I suppose makes sense, but still, nothing has arrived as of this afternoon. She did tell me they would likely call on Monday since today was the target date, but she also explained that if they detect any bacteria, they have to wait to see how much it actually grows before they can pinpoint the exact antibiotic needed to fight it off. I guess I’m just feeling a little anxious about the whole thing—why does it honestly take them this long? I mean, what exactly can they uncover from a simple throat swab? And do you all think they would have reached out sooner if there was something seriously wrong, or is this delay just a sign that they're digging deeper because they've actually found something concerning that requires more investigation?

I feel like I’m experiencing every single classic symptom of being pregnant, though; I mean, I find myself constantly snacking, and I have these very specific cravings that are totally unlike anything I usually go for. Plus, my bathroom habits have shifted quite a bit, much like they did during my first pregnancy, and I just can't seem to shake this feeling of being overheated all the time, which also feels exactly like how I felt the first time around. I am also feeling significantly more exhausted than usual... and I’ve been so incredibly tearful over the smallest, most trivial things lately. To make matters even more intense, certain smells that I normally wouldn't mind are making me feel quite nauseous, especially in the mornings. My breasts have also become noticeably larger, too. So, I suppose I'm left wondering if I am just imagining things or if these are simply premenstrual symptoms, but I honestly feel like I have this deep intuition that I might actually be pregnant.

Well, it turns out it wasn't a false negative after all, because my period finally showed up today... and it was late, like, the latest it has ever been for me. Last month it arrived on the 4th, and then today, so, I guess I wonder if that's normal since my cycle is usually a bit irregular anyway. I've just been such a nervous wreck through all of this, and I haven't even seen my gynecologist in quite a while because I moved to a new city and it's just such a trek now, so I really need to find a new doctor, but everywhere seems to have such massive waiting lists lately. It's funny, isn't it? How it happens when you aren't planning for it, yet when you actually want it, it just doesn't seem to happen so easily...
