urbanhawk17 said:Look, Charles Roberts33, I honestly couldn't care less about the news story or whether that woman goes shopping on a Sunday or not.

It's just funny that she said that while standing in a checkout line.

Nothing more, nothing less.

It's just funny.

We don't need to overanalyze every bit of stupidity, if you catch my drift.

Anyway, I laughed, I shared it here, and that's the end of it. Even if it was staged, it’s still funny.

So you guys finally cornered Papia... seriously? And hey, Charles Roberts33, was this really the plan for Sunday afternoon?

The absolute clowns running this government and sitting in those high-level headquarters 🤣 honestly, I’m losing my mind laughing at how pathetic they are 🤣

"So what happened in Chicago? Nothing, it just happened." 🤣

If people would just shut up and listen to the CDC and stay home, everything would move way faster. You guys really want a massive COVID blowout? Because if you keep this up, that’s exactly what we’re gonna get.

I gotta give credit where it's due, though—I'm seeing way more people out and about and actually hanging out lately. Look, you can play people for fools for a little while, but you can't pull that stunt on everyone forever. 😁

I watched that clip from earlier, and I guess it’s worth some thought, though I’m not entirely sure what to make of it yet. It feels like one of those things where you look at the surface level and think you understand the situation, but once you start digging into the specifics, everything gets a bit more complicated—maybe even a little messy. There’s a certain rhythm to how these things play out, isn't there? It reminds me a bit of watching a slow-burn legal drama on HBO, where everyone is acting like they have all the answers, but you can tell they're just waiting for someone else to trip up first. I suppose we could argue about the technicalities, but honestly, most of that feels like noise. I don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Or maybe I'm underthinking it. It’s hard to say without seeing how the rest of the pieces fall into place. I'll probably sit on this for a while before forming a definitive opinion, because rushing to judgment seems like a losing game most of the time. Anyway, just some thoughts.

Haha.

Where the hell is this show headed? I'm guessing it's not on Max? I'd actually tune in if it were airing live 🤣

Sunday Night Despotism in Round 2.

Some guy rolls up to the podium ready to lay down some heavy-duty rhetoric. And he’s not even just blaming the folks in D.C. anymore—now he’s taking aim at the entire damn country. 😁

Charles Roberts33 said:Sure, but what kind of compensation are we talking about? The women working in those stores are making absolute peanuts. Generally speaking, every lowlife takes advantage of them because they can—from managers down to the rude customers. They’re "so protected," right? It’s almost funny. I guess that’s why turnover is so high at those "prestigious" jobs. God forbid I ever get treated with that much "protection."

I’m all for working when there isn't a pandemic, including Sundays and holidays. It doesn't bother me; nobody is forcing my hand. If I wanted less money, I’d work less, but then I certainly wouldn't be pulling shifts on Sundays and holidays.

I think we're missing each other here. Generally speaking, I'm not even against banning Sunday work. There are countries out there where that actually works. Personally, I don't hit the grocery stores on Sundays anyway; I might pop out for a loaf of bread, but that's about it. I go to the movies, but hey, someone has to staff those theaters. I grab gas, and there are employees there too. Our lifestyle in the States just doesn't allow for everything to shut down.

darkseal9 said:It’s wild how even with all this crazy tech progress, people actually have to work harder than ever these days.

Nah, they don't *have* to. People work because they want more. Whether we actually "need" more is some deep philosophical rabbit hole that isn't worth diving into right now.

Look, I don't know any decent mechanics, electricians, or plumbers—not to mention a whole list of other high-demand trades—who aren't grinding themselves to the bone. Most of them are out there working sunrise to sunset, just giving it everything they've got while they still have the energy and the drive.

In this ridiculous century we’ve found ourselves in... where everyone seems to be constantly clamoring for a four-day workweek, or shorter shifts, or heaven knows what else... I don't know. It feels like we're just moving toward total stagnation, I guess. Maybe it's progress, maybe it's just laziness, but everything feels so fractured lately. Everyone wants more time off, more flexibility, more everything... and I wonder if we even have the stamina left to actually accomplish anything meaningful when we finally sit down to work. It's all very strange.

Look, I’m telling you again, I know you're just trolling at this point, but seriously... I live out in the middle of nowhere, okay? I am surrounded by people who fix tillers and small farm equipment for a living, and let me tell you, I don't know a single soul who just decides to work on a Sunday—whether they're doing it because they feel like it or because some boss is breathing down their neck. It just doesn't happen.

I don't want to claim I have the exact statistics at my fingertips—I certainly don't—but if I had to make an educated guess, I’d say at least 75 to 80 percent of the workforce isn't getting a Sunday off. And I'm not just talking about the essential services or the odd jobs, either. I mean there are plenty of roles that could easily be handled on a Sunday, but for whatever reason, they just don't operate. It's just how things are, I suppose.

Who exactly is pushing this? Seriously, I haven't seen a single successful business actually function if they switched to a four-day schedule.

I mean, sure, if you're part of some massive government bureaucracy—like working for the federal government or the state of Norway, for instance—then whatever, fine. You could probably get away with a one-day work week if you wanted. When you're playing with taxpayer money, you can do whatever the hell you want.

Charles Roberts33 said:Most retail workers are older women—mostly married with kids in tow.

The real point behind closing shops on Sunday isn't just about letting them attend some damn Mass that the leftists find so irritating; it’s about giving this vulnerable segment of the workforce a fighting chance to actually spend a day with their families.

Personally, I can live without Sunday shopping. I think most people can. I’m not sure how one day off per week would impact potential layoffs, but generally speaking, it’s not a job anyone should be losing sleep over.

I'm not a fan of bans. Especially since there are tons of us who work every single day; Sunday doesn't even mean anything to us. With these kinds of restrictions, it's always the retail workers who get singled out, while everyone else—like what Jessica Gonzalez mentioned—is grinding through those Sundays, nights, Fridays, and Saturdays, and basically getting screwed over. If they were retail workers, they'd actually have some protection. ☕

The Monday-to-Friday grind is just a leftover from failed eras past, just like working 6 to 2 or 7 to 3. Welcome to the 21st century.

I honestly don't have the energy to read through this whole thing right now... did anyone catch when they said the curfew is actually getting lifted?

Sid, look, over here the entire healthcare system is currently drowning trying to manage 2000 patients with Coronavirus. Of course there’s no real collapse—it’s just "every man for himself" at this point. If you die at home, nobody’s even gonna notice 😁 And I'm not even making this up on the fly; about a month ago, right when they were rolling out all these new restrictions, my old man got hit with this massive, blinding pain in the middle of the night. Turns out it was just kidney stones. You wouldn't believe the absolute nonsense and hoops they made him jump through just to get some basic pain meds at the ER 🙏

Thanks to Sweden, we’re actually going to have something to compare this to. In a few months, or maybe even a year, once everything finally settles down ( 🤣 ), we'll see the real numbers. Honestly, I’m ready to bet money right now that it’s going to be a pathetic rate—just a tiny footnote in the history books.

Thank God there are other countries finally starting to wake up. The Governor of California just ordered autopsies for all those suspicious cases from December

edit: Just so people don't think I'm out of touch with the Coronavirus situation, my cousin is actually in the hospital because of it 🤣 there's about 20 of them in that ward, and nobody's actually sick; they're basically dying of boredom, being total pains, and just waiting to get discharged 😁 he didn't even have symptoms, he just got tested because of contact.

Does it really bother you that little when it comes to the elderly and the sick? And for what reason—just so the current metrics, or perhaps those in the next two or three years, don't get in the way of your ability to grab a steak every single weekend?

It’s easy enough to hold that perspective when you're in your thirties and in peak health. Or so I suppose.

And when I say "the elderly," I'm not just referring to the eighty-plus crowd, but also people twenty years younger than that, who have relatively good years ahead of them and a health situation that would normally be under control, yet has now become critical.

Not to mention the trauma being dealt to healthcare workers, who, quite frankly, are being paid next to nothing for the work they're doing right now.

It's not even about that. I'm just mocking the whole absurd situation where people are dying left and right, yet we get three presidential briefings on death a day. It’s surreal. Zoran Milanović is easily the most unhinged guy I've seen in the comments 🙏 And yeah, I care. Of course I care about the future; any sane person would be worried about what's coming our way.

Regarding the whole thing... I think we're all just overreacting. Plus, we're stuck in this weird "limbo" regarding medical progress. We have medicine advanced enough to keep people clinging to life, but the question is, what kind of life is it? I'm pretty much on the same page as Byron's line of thinking: as long as you're vital and independent, sure, live to 150. Otherwise...

Honestly, I’m kind of hoping this lockdown drags on as long as possible. It's high time we actually face the music for acting like total sheep. Let it all go to hell for all I care—if we have to go hungry, then so be it. ☕
