Everything you need for a California wedding in Weddings ·
That’s exactly my point—I’ve been to plenty of weddings, and honestly, nothing ever really blows me away or leaves me feeling disappointed except for the overall vibe. To me, that atmosphere is the one thing you actually take home with you from a wedding... everything else is just secondary. Sure, if the food was absolutely terrible, I’d probably remember it, but usually, it’s fine..
You could serve the most incredible meal in the world, but if the music is absolute garbage, 🙈well, it's a lost cause. Maybe newlyweds set the bar a little too high sometimes, but from what I’ve gathered, guests usually just expect the standard wedding experience..
I once went to an event at this great little restaurant in Malibu, and even though I can't for the life of me remember a single thing we ate, I know for a fact the energy in the room was just perfect..🙂

I've been searching everywhere, but I just can't seem to find that one specific jeweler in San Francisco that specializes exclusively in engagement rings... I'm positive I read about them somewhere, but I just can't track them down right now
Does anyone happen to have any info? Please let me know if you do 🙂

Vagus! But honestly, if you aren't in a huge rush, maybe wait for a trade show? You might be able to snag a decent discount then!🙂

Aaron Brown7 said:Honestly, we’re still totally up in the air about it... we haven't made up our minds yet. At first, we were looking at heading over to Walmart, but everyone keeps telling us that the food quality and service there are just a total disaster... so clearly, we aren't the brightest bulbs in the box.😢

I’ve actually been to quite a few weddings over there, and honestly, the food and service have always been top-notch for me! Now, let's be real—you aren't going to find the absolute best prosciutto, the finest cheese, the most incredible risotto, or the world's greatest wine at any wedding venue unless you go ahead and rent out a private space and bring in your own high-end catering! But the food is definitely better than what you'd get at a nice steakhouse where you'd be dropping $50 or $60 per person, or at least that's been my experience. Everyone has their own opinion about every single venue, whether they love it or hate it; tastes are just different like that. And let's face it, you're never going to hit the jackpot where absolutely everything is 100% perfect. Personally, I think Costco is one of the best venues in all of California, and judging by what people are saying online, I'm not alone. The servers are always right there when you need them, and I've truly never heard anyone say anything bad about them. 🤷

gentlewolf69 said:I already mentioned my thoughts on Dolis over on page 203, so I’ll just leave it at that... Basically, the food was fantastic, but the way they run the business? Not so much.

So, I did a little digging to see what was going on—it looks like they actually tried to roll out that new way of doing things (even if they're officially denying it), but it clearly didn't fly with anyone. Honestly, it would have been total disaster for them. So, for all my ladies asking about Dolis-Lesnin: everything is back to normal. You can still expect great food, lovely service, and wonderful sales! 🙂

I actually stopped by there once, and they had a few dresses listed for sale on eBay... the girl working there was incredibly sweet and super welcoming, too. Honestly, the prices they had online were $100 lower than what they were asking in the actual boutique, but I didn't really want to make a thing out of it since nothing specifically caught my eye... regardless, they definitely get a thumbs up from me! 🙂

And honestly, I’m not even sure if those items are actually from eBay; it's totally possible because I haven't heard of any specific brands like "Maggie S" or "Pronovias." Everything seems pretty much unbranded, though I wouldn't really mind if I actually found something that fit perfectly... then again, maybe those eBay sellers just scrape photos right off the official brand websites? Who knows...
Christian Sanders69 said:In my case, all the dry cookies and various cakes were handmade by my aunts and my Mother's friends, but we ended up ordering the actual wedding cake from Zenit.

I honestly wish I could too, but they actually have a rule against it in the venue 😢
William Chavez10 said:I guess I should start by saying that I don't want to sound like I'm preaching, but I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Maybe it's just me, but there's something about the way things are going that feels... off? I don't know how to put my finger on it exactly. It’s like we all collectively agreed to follow this certain path, and now that we're actually on it, we're realizing it might not be where we wanted to end up. I mean, look at how much everything has shifted. It seems like just yesterday we were all focused on different priorities, and now, suddenly, the landscape looks completely different. It's a bit overwhelming, honestly. I find myself questioning if we even took enough time to consider the long-term consequences of our decisions. Probably not, if I'm being totally honest with myself. We were all just caught up in the moment, rushing toward what looked like progress, without really stopping to ask if it was the *right* kind of progress. It’s a heavy realization to sit with, and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way. I've been talking to some people, and while everyone has their own take, there's this underlying sense of uncertainty that seems to be pretty widespread. It’s not necessarily that anyone did anything "wrong," per se, but more that the collective direction we chose feels increasingly shaky. Anyway, I guess I'm just rambling now. I didn't mean to get too deep, but it's been weighing on my mind. I'd love to hear what you guys think, though. Do you feel that same sense of hesitation, or am I just overthinking things as usual? I'm curious if anyone else is seeing these same patterns or if I'm just stuck in my own head about it.

So, I was reading some stuff online, and apparently, they say it’s about 10 grams per person. If you're looking to get the best deal, I guess your best bet would be at Verizon—they seem to have the most reasonable prices, maybe around 35 bucks? I don't know, just my two cents.$13 If you're looking to pick up some cake, you should definitely check out Sugar or Cakes-Miami—honestly, she makes some of the best cakes I've ever had.

I actually heard it might be closer to 20 or 25? Hmm... now I'm feeling a little 🤷
Maybe they meant 10 ounces for the salad and the rest is just brought from home?
Also, what's the deal with the desserts at Verizon—where is that located exactly? Delta and those other brands are all roughly $20/kg, so those prices seem a bit too good to be true to me. Are they actually any good?
What would you say is a "normal" price for wedding cake per pound? And how much should I actually plan on serving per guest? I'm looking at places like Magnolia Bakery, Whole Foods, or maybe even some local boutique bakeries... 🙂

I’ve heard some chatter about Marina's video being a bit underwhelming too, so I'm curious—what's everyone thinking about Srdanović? And does anyone happen to know what the price tag looks like?

Anthony Hill40 said:Oh man, thank you so much for the heads-up! We were just about to put down a deposit for the hall tomorrow! 😁 😁 😁
We're going to sleep on it and think it over, because the quality of the food is absolutely vital to me! On the other hand, John Doe offers fantastic food and service for a much, much lower price, but the location is such a headache for us! Ugh, what a dilemma!

Honestly, I’m leaning toward Nirsa... I’ve been to John Doe a few times in the past (though not in the last two years), and frankly, the whole experience was pretty terrible! From the food to the wine—which gave me a massive headache after just two glasses—to the overall vibe... Nirsa just seems way better in every single way. What's the deal with Walmart?

George Davis4 said:I was at Aria for a party less than six months ago. The venue looks great with all the lighting effects, and the food was solid (the beef stew was actually amazing), but the staff was a letdown. You have to ask for things two or three times before anyone notices you... Great hall and food, but the servers 👎

I visited Aria back in September, and the food was absolutely perfect—especially that beef stew, I haven't had anything quite like it since! Plus, the servers there were wonderful and so attentive, always checking in on us. I guess it just depends on who is working that day. 🙂 Personally, I have nothing but good things to say about Aria (I haven't heard any complaints!). If we're talking about service, though, the team at NIRS is hands down the best... I've been there six times now, and I haven't met anyone more helpful!

Sophia Phillips3 said:Alright, I’ve got everything squared away on my end. The guys are grabbing beers, and the wedding studio is already on-site filming. The only thing bugging me is this whole situation with the manager over at Dolis—it feels sketchy. Honestly, I’m in a worse spot than most, yet they won't even mention that this new policy regarding seat payments is actually happening... Hmmm :/

If I were you, I’d be really careful if you decide to order a book, just so they don't charge you for a high-end version from a place like Target that costs around $133 while they bill you for $0.00. I haven't experienced it firsthand, but I've been hearing some pretty sour feedback lately in a few different circles! Just make sure to iron out every single detail ahead of time and read that contract super carefully. 😉

I actually ended up at a party once where Vice and XY were performing (since we don't have Wilma with us anymore)... and honestly, it was just not it. It was pretty bad, if I'm being totally honest...
gentlewolf69 said:Hey everyone, just wanted to drop a quick heads-up for anyone currently hunting for a wedding venue. A close friend of mine is getting married next year—most likely in September—and she’s been scouting locations. She actually fell in love with this specific venue in Dover that holds about 200 people. They’re planning on inviting around 200 guests, though they're realistically expecting closer to 170 to actually show up. Well, the venue manager told them that if they truly think only 170 will attend, they should just book a smaller room... because if they go with the larger space, they have to pay for all 200 seats regardless. Even after giving him a final headcount closer to the date, he won't budge. When they asked what would happen if they booked the smaller room but then suddenly had 200 people show up, he basically shrugged and said that wasn't his problem. If you want a room for 200, you pay for 200 chairs. He even went on to say that if someone books a hall for 350 because they invited, say, 360 people, but then notifies him a week or two before the deadline that only 300 are coming, they still have to pay for all 350. Apparently, this is his "new policy" and how he's decided to run things lately. I mean, how is anyone supposed to know their exact guest count a full year in advance to pick the right room? And these days, by the time you even know, everything is already booked up months ahead anyway... I just wanted to share this because my friend was absolutely livid dealing with such an idiot, and honestly, I am too. I can't believe some people run businesses like that. If he had said that to my face, I would have given him a piece of my mind and then some... 🙂 🙂

Wait, what???? I am totally speechless! I actually booked that place in a suburban town a few months ago—the hall for 200+ people—at $36 per person for a six-month window. Is this some kind of new rule? Ugh, I might actually throw up thinking about that ridiculous idea!

Daaaaaa, I heard that too... They were actually pretty good, which makes it such a shame!
rustytiger27 said:We actually paid 2,800 dollars back in 2008.

Oof, that actually sounds a little pricey to me...
Sophia Phillips3 said:So, how much are Matthew and Bryan actually asking for?

2,000 dollars!
Sophia Phillips3 said:Wait, I also heard it was going for a viva 2700 dollar, so is that actually true or what? :/

I'm pretty sure it's 2,500! At least, that's what I heard through the grapevine.🤷
rustytiger27 said:I can definitely back that up too. They played my sister's wedding, and they were top-tier entertainers. I still remember them from our college party days back in San Francisco, and they always knew exactly how to set the mood.

I also totally get why some people might be looking for a female vocalist. Personally, I had Visa play my wedding, and having that mix—where the guys sing a bit, then a few women jump in—is actually perfect. It makes the whole thing feel really balanced and fun.

By the way, my wedding was in December, and even though Visa usually gets booked months or even a year or two in advance, I think you can probably find an opening during the winter season if you're into that sort of thing... 😁

It's true, Visa is amazing... Having a female vocalist makes such a difference, and I actually considered booking them specifically because of that, but in the end, the venue was the deciding factor... and I'm sure we'll have a blast regardless! 🙂 There are some bands that start winding down around 2 AM and take these huge breaks mid-set, which I am just not a fan of at all! With Visa, Matthew, and Brantley, I love how they just keep the music going until you finally tell them to stop! Whether it's 4, 5, or even 6 in the morning, they are ready to go!
Sophia Phillips3 said:I’m really not feeling a duo for this. Honestly, a full-on 4 or 5-piece band just feels more natural to me, you know? Miro Boem is already booked up on that date, and I've never been a huge fan of Barbara or that Uber cover band—saw them at a party once and they just weren't my vibe. I did end up chatting with the Volare band, so I’m planning to catch them live to see if they hit the mark. Has anyone here actually seen them perform before? Any intel?

Even if you aren't leaning toward a duo, you should really check out Matthew and the Dam... Honestly, just go to one of their gigs, the vibe is absolutely incredible, and they’ll play just about anything you ask for. They don't just stick to the same old setlist, either. I’ve been to maybe four or five parties where they were the main act, and I haven't had a single moment of doubt about them. 🙂None of those parties ever wrapped up before 6 AM, either; it’s wild how they can still be playing at 5 in the morning like the night is just getting started.
