Raymond Mitchell said:So you're saying there's a real chance she gets pregnant?! Can you even just walk into a CVS or Walgreens and buy emergency contraception over the counter these days without a prescription?! And does anyone know how much that stuff even costs?

Well, theoretically, yeah, it’s possible. But as for the morning-after pill... she really shouldn't just go out and grab it on her own. I mean, first off, no smart pharmacist at a CVS or Walgreens is going to just hand it over, and second, she really needs a prescription from her OB-GYN. They need to look at her medical history, her blood work, all that stuff... So, I guess the best bet is to call her doctor, tell them it's an emergency, and ask. But she probably only has a window of maybe 2 or 3 days...

By the way, maybe tell her that having sex during her period isn't exactly ideal. I don't mean because of the mess, but more about how sensitive everything is, the risk of bacteria, and being prone to infections... Things are just extra sensitive during that time...

Jerry Bailey47 said:Look, boldridge3, YOU ARE NOT PREGNANT. Honestly, reading through this thread sometimes makes me feel like I’m listening to a group of ten-year-olds asking these kinds of questions. 🙄It’s been far too long since your relationship ended for a test to give you a false positive—plus, you were dealing with your period anyway. There is zero reason to worry.

Exactly! That's what I was trying to get through to her, but she just won't listen... 🤷 After a month and a half since the encounter, any test—unless it's totally broken—would show a positive result loud and clear. p.s. correct me if I'm wrong...😁
Well, I guess it really comes down to when she actually ovulates. Sperm can hang around inside the body for up to five days, so if her ovulation happens around day 8 or 9—given they had sex on day 4—conception is definitely on the table. Then again, some women just ovulate right on schedule, which would make the chances even higher, I suppose... 🤷 So, if she’s trying to avoid a baby, she probably made a bit of a mistake. But, if I wanted to be a little easier on her, maybe it's worth noting that not many women have cycles that erratic...
I mean, honestly, if it were me, I’d just go ahead and buy the test right away and get it over with... 🤷
I mean, you could still take a test if you're really that preoccupied with sex. If it comes back positive, you should probably show someone after all this time 🤷
Don't even worry about it! I'm just glad everything worked out so well for you. Enjoy yourself and take care, okay? 😍
My sister and one of my close friends both dealt with some bleeding during their first trimester. It definitely wasn't just a light period; the flow was heavier, the color was darker, and it was completely free of clots... Well, I'm certain about the lack of clots, though I guess the color might vary from person to person.
And why on earth would she even bother doing that if her cycle was totally normal?! 😕
No worries at all Nicole Rogers8! I really hope everything turns out okay. From what I’ve gathered—and please feel free to correct me if I'm off base here—those patches release certain hormones, so I don't think they just vanish from your system instantly... anyway, keep me posted! Best,

Jerry Bailey47 said:This doesn't always happen—I took a test once and it was negative after 10 minutes, so I just left it sitting in the bathroom and walked away. When I came back (about 2 or 3 hours later), it had turned positive. I went straight to the pharmacy the next day for a different brand, and the pharmacist told me I was definitely pregnant; she said regardless of the "late line," those tests react specifically to the pregnancy hormone—it's either there or it isn't. I tried a different brand later that same day anyway, and it showed a positive result immediately. 🤷

Wow,
really 😕 😲 I honestly had no clue about that! Every time I take a test, I make sure to read the instructions—I think I practically know them by heart at this point 😂—and they always say you shouldn't read the result too early or too late... Even though it makes sense that it should react strictly based on whether those hormones are present or not! Well, I guess I learned something new today. 😉
So, ovulation usually happens about 14 days before your next period hits (assuming your cycles are roughly 28 days, give or take), which is when you notice that increased discharge and all that—but honestly, you can find that info all over the internet if you really want to dig. Based on that, I guess the bad news is that you had sex right during that window (since those days around ovulation are the fertile ones), but the good news is that you actually got your period! 🙂 You didn't mention if he finished inside, or if you guys used a condom, or if he pulled out? I mean, I don't think you have much to worry about... I'm telling you, pregnancy tests aren't *that* incredibly sensitive that they would show both negative even with those little mistakes you made! When did you actually take the tests? If you're still feeling uneasy, maybe just grab another one just to get some peace of mind, though personally, I don't see any reason to panic 🙂
Whoa, hey now, take a deep breath, honey! First things first, maybe you could walk us through the details? Like, when did you last have sex, when was your last period, and if you know, when you think you might have ovulated... 🙂 Just a few specifics, and whether he finished inside... Aside from all that, I’d suggest just picking up some of those budget-friendly tests. You can find them at places like $8.25, roughly... and honestly, they’re just as reliable! 😉
No, neongardener6, it’s actually her 15th day today since I also started mine on the 31st... Though I wouldn't really suggest taking a test right this second. Honestly, I'm not even sure if she actually ovulated, but if you're questioning that flow, then maybe... I guess it could be something. Maybe try making one more test and post a photo? Not that there's much we can really say about the picture if more than 5-10 minutes have passed since it beeped ☕
wiredcanyon48 said:bluetiger212 help me out!! I was at the doctor and he took some swabs since I haven't had my period since mid-December. He wants me to get a blood test done too. I have to head back there on Monday, but today I started spotting even though I'm still using those vaginal suppositories. What could this be? I was just wearing a liner and when I saw this reddish-brown color, I totally lost it. I REALLY THOUGHT I WAS PREGNANT!!! Ugh, I'm devastated because the home test came back negative.
🙂 🙂 🤷

Oh honey, I really can't give you medical advice... I don't know what to tell you. 🤷 That bleeding might not even be your period. If it looks a little different than usual, it could just be old blood coming out. I also know that spotting can happen during pregnancy, especially in those first few months, so I guess you won't know for sure until that blood test comes back. But honestly, I imagine your doctor will figure it out pretty quickly since it's been so long since your last cycle... Try not to worry too much! 🙂 I've actually been trying to conceive for eight cycles now, and nothing yet... It's tough. Maybe you should join our little "trying to conceive" group online? There's a girl there who knows way more than I do, and we all have that one thing in common—we're all trying so hard to get pregnant, but it's just not happening yet. 😢
Zeno, honey, you should probably head over to the doctor... maybe grab a test while you're at it?

Sophia Wells72 said:All those live hormone tests are going to cost quite a bit out of pocket through $500. I don't really think it'll be any cheaper; I've done most of them myself (including my thyroid) and it cost me roughly that much.

@bluetiger212, maybe try explaining the situation clearly to your OB-GYN and see if she'll write you a referral to check all those hormones. You know, things don't always show up on an ultrasound or necessarily mess with a regular cycle, but some little hormone imbalances can still cause trouble—though I really hope that isn't the case for you. Good luck. 🙂

Edit: And yeah, what Saška mentioned is true; people usually start taking more serious action once they hit that one-year mark of trying to conceive.

Yeah, I get it now. That’s what my doctor told me too—that I should probably wait at least a year. Because of that, we'd likely end up paying for everything privately. Well, maybe not everything, but definitely a semen analysis and perhaps the thyroid stuff. But without asking her for a referral 🙄 Anyway, I think I'll just wait a few more months (since waiting for an appointment with a socialized doctor can take up to three months anyway), so I'll probably reach that one-year milestone right when my turn comes, which I sincerely hope won't be necessary 😢 Thanks, ladies, and good luck to everyone out there trying!

copperraven53 said:A semen analysis can be done at a place like Mayo Clinic, for instance, but he’ll probably need a referral from his primary care physician first.

Generally speaking, I think you should probably wait just a little bit longer. Most doctors consider a full year of trying to be perfectly normal, so it wouldn't officially be classified as infertility yet.

That said, you could always go ahead now and check things like your sex hormones or thyroid levels just to make sure everything is balanced. But, I guess eight months is still a bit too early to really start worrying.

You might want to take a look at this thread: methods, ways, and help with conception, and here is a chat thread for women who are also trying to conceive. 🙂

Thanks! I've actually been active in those threads you suggested already, but thank you anyway! I mean, I know we're supposed to wait a year, but even this feels like too much... We're pretty worried. I don't know if you can relate, but it's just such a terrible feeling, especially when I have to wait 🙂 That's why we were thinking about going private for the semen analysis. As for the hormones, I have no clue where to go?! 😕 Should I go to a lab or somewhere else? And do I need a referral for that, too? Sorry, I'm just so confused :/

Hmm, looks like people are talking about exactly what’s been on my mind lately. So, my partner and I have been trying to conceive for about eight cycles now, but we haven't had any luck yet. We've done everything—drinking all the herbal teas, following all the folklore advice, taking vitamins, staying away from cigarettes, keeping up with the intimacy, tracking ovulation... you name it. My OB-GYN mentioned that everything seems fine on my end, at least regarding the basic stuff you can catch during a standard checkup. I was wondering, though, who should my guy actually see for things like a semen analysis or those other specific tests men need to undergo? I'm not entirely sure which ones 🤷?! Should he just talk to his primary care doctor, or is there someone else? Thanks! 😢
Thanks so much! Honestly, I think 🙂 I know that taking an emergency contraceptive isn't exactly the ideal way to handle things, but in my opinion, it’s a better option than an abortion. That said, you really should definitely talk to your gynecologist first! I’ve heard so many different stories from various women—everything from having to hold your legs up in the air for half an hour to peeing over a bowl of boiled herbs or whatever else... honestly, most of it is just nonsense. Don't pay too much attention to the gossip from coworkers... maybe try browsing some websites that actually explain implantation, pregnancy, and female reproductive health in a serious way. If you read up a bit on your cycle and what exactly happens on specific days... I think it might make things feel a little easier for you. :*
Look, honey, you can never really be 100% certain about security stuff! I used to get so anxious back in the day—when I was younger—worrying about accidentally getting pregnant. I went through everything: birth control pills, emergency contraception (I honestly don't know why you didn't just take the Plan B?!), condoms, you name it... we tried it all. And now that we actually want a baby? Not a chance! We’ve been trying for seven months straight now. We track ovulation, we try during fertile windows, before, after, even every single day... we've basically tried everything under the sun and nothing is happening! So, you see... one thing doesn't necessarily mean you're pregnant. Honestly, I don't think that period you had right after being intimate means anything... it's more likely your uterine lining just shed and there wasn't enough thickening for a fertilized egg to actually "stick." Plus, it's pretty rare for a woman to ovulate immediately after her period ends... sperm probably wouldn't even survive that long (well, maybe they would, but they wouldn't be up for much!). Don't worry too much, but just remember you always have Plan B as an option 😉
